Way back in October, I ran a (sort of) risky Photo Assignment that asked our resident photographers to pull inspiration from any lyric on Rise Against's newest record, Appeal To Reason. I was overwhelmed by the creative response we got from our community and now I can say that the band themselves were just as overwhelmed as I was!

Rise Against's world just got that much cooler. The political melodic hardcore band just announced that the legendary Rancid will be taking them out on the road during the summer of 2009. No, seriously. Rancid and Rise Against. Playing the same show. For an entire tour. Trust us, you will not want to miss this.

KROQ has finally answered our prayers and announced the lineup for their annual Almost Acoustic Christmas shows. In the midst of political and economic turmoil, Rise Against have chosen to release Appeal To Reason as a dire and urgent form of activism. Their fifth record borrows more heavily from mid-90's era Bad Religion than from the hardcore heavyweights that clearly influence their work. The result: the group's stronger-than-ever melodic tendencies shine bright like a musical Molotov cocktail heaved at the pop-punk establishment.

The Chicago punk rock band will release their fifth full-length, Appeal to Reason, on October 7.

Derek Grant, drummer for Alkaline Trio, has uncovered eight songs from his past, when he was known as the Reaper and sang for a band called Dead End. Lucky for us, Grant has made all of the songs available for free download!

"Guitar Hero: World Tour" will hit stores on October 26 (for PS2, PS3, Wii and XBox 360) and with 86 possible songs to play, this game is sure to last you at least 2 weeks before you master it! Details.
