Chris Brown Has Been Charged

I don't know if y'all have been keeping up with all the he-said she-said drama involved in the Chris Brown / Rihanna beatdown aftermath, but those of you concerned with the proceedings should know that Brown has been charged with felony assault and a felony count of making criminal threats.

Chris and Rihanna (both 19 years old) supposedly got into a key-throwing, head-bruising, arm-biting fiasco after a pre-Grammy party on February 7th, and neither attended the ceremony the next day even though they were scheduled to perform.

Our community here has been in a bit of an uproar -- there has been some victim blaming on other blogs, and freak-outs over the couple possibly reuniting.

Arraignment is scheduled to take place in downtown L.A. at 3:30 p.m. today. Brown is facing a possible four years in the slammer.

Although some will vehemently say this is "none of our business," I think celebrities issues provide a good catalyst for discussion about domestic abuse and other weighty issues that are not so easy to bring up on the fly.

What are your thoughts?

I heard Chris Brown's fist smells like true-love and cotton candy. Who wouldn't want another taste?

I'm glad that fucker got charged. I couldn't stand him since the day his first song hit the radio.

i agree with what you said about celebrity issues being a good catalyst for these issues and that it can make it aot easier for people to talk about. i dont care how "sorry" he says he is, its wrong

I read this on TMZ before:

TMZ has obtained LAPD detectives notes from a search warrant in the case. According to the notes,

Rihanna read a three-page text message on Brown's phone from a woman. An argument ensued and Brown allegedly tried forcing Rihanna out of the car but couldn't because she was wearing her seat belt.

Brown then allegedly shoved Rihanna's head against the passenger window. When Rihanna turned to face him, Brown punched her, then continued punching her while driving, according to the detective's notes.

Blood spattered all over Rihanna's clothing and in the interior of the car. Her mouth was filled with blood.

Brown allegedly told Rihanna, "I'm going to beat the **** out of you when we get home. You wait and see."

Rihanna called her assistant and left a message saying, "I am on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there."

Brown then replied, "You just did the stupidest thing ever. I'm going to kill you."

According to the report, Brown continued to punch Rihanna, bit her on her ear, her fingers and put her in a headlock -- she almost lost consciousness.

I was like, freaking out. Reading it was disturbing.

Gah, that really is disturbing.
I can sort of understand getting mad and slapping someone ONCE... but then being like, crap, that was a horrible thing to do. But to just keep beating on someone? How do you take a punch and then decide doing more damage is a good idea?

Right?
It's pretty sad, under no circumstances should anyone do that to someone else.

I just hope she's alright, and that girls know its not okay to be treated this way. I think they deserve their privacy, and that no one no matter how famous, deserves to be made an example of.

But if TMZ has actually obtained notes from the LAPD? That's pretty damn conclusive.

I wish Chris Brown was still cute. This totally destroyed his image and it's been just as bad for Rhianna's reputation, as well. I don't think she should be blamed, but some people have and it's damaging for her.

That's exactly what I said. If he would have just slapped her in the heat of the moment & said sorry, he'd be forgiven. But he just. Kept. Going.

WTF....these celebrities do the silliest thing

This has nothing to do with being celebrities and everything to do with people like Chris Brown (allegedly) thinking it's ok to dole out domestic violence.
