When I Met You (Chapter 24-THE END)

Hayley's heart stopped. She took a breath, scared to wonder what had happened. She was scared to look at what happened. "Josh?" She squeaked, a low sound that she couldn't even hear. There was no reply. "J.." Hayley took her time walking to the edge of the roof to look down below. Slowly she gripped at the edge of the building and peered down below. She wasn't ready for what she saw. There, with his head bleeding, lay her husband. Hayley couldn't do anything else but let out a horrified gasp. "Josh!" She screamed, his name echoing throughout the sky. She didn't hesistate to rush back down to the ground. "No, no.." She mumbled, as she got her knees to lay beside him. "Help! Someone help!" She called, her voice as high as it could go. In no time her mother was out that door, gasping at the sight. "Oh my God.." She whispered, cupping her mouth with her hand. "Mom we need an ambulance. Now." Hayley looked down over Josh's bleeding body, the red of his shirt seeping their way onto her white dress. His eyes were barely open. "Hayley?" He wheezed. Hayley hushed him, heavy tears running down the side of her face. "It's okay," Josh continued, letting out a short groan of pain. He grunted, and his eyes fell closed the moment after. A sudden chaos began to ensue as everyone rushed to see the scene going on in that tiny alley. "Yes, 911?" Hayley heard her mother mumble into the phone. She couldn't focus on anything else but his body, which was loosing too much blood. The ring of an ambulance rang through the building and soon Josh was laid out onto a stretcher, being carried away into the ambulance. Hayley was left to sob in her mother's arms, fury running through her veins. She never thought something like this could happen. She needed to avenge Josh, beginning with the search to who the hell shot him down. She had a pretty good idea of who it was in the back of her mind. Celeste.
xoxoxo
Still in her bloodstained wedding dress, Hayley walked into the hospital, eyes of the nurses and doctors being attracted to her. She was the strange young lady with a wedding dress on. She asked a nurse to where Josh was, and that nurse directed her down a silent hallway and into a room filled with beeps and a large bed. There Josh laid, his eyes closed, but the heart monitor beeping in the background. "Josh," Hayley whispered, approaching him quietly. His eyes fluttered open to the sound of his name. Hayley let out a relieved sigh, smiling down at his body. He had a tube connected to his nose and numerous wires going into his arms. He looked like a computer, not a human being. "God, Josh, I swear I'll.." He stopped her before she could go on. "Don't think like that," he let out, looking tired. She just wanted to cry in front of him. "But when you're out of here I'm going to...I'll kill.." Hayley paused, looking away from him and placing her upper lip over her lower one. She sobbed silently, unable to keep herself together. "Hayles..shh.." Josh whispered, breathing between his words. Hayley was so englufed in the replays of the event that just happened. In her mind the image of Josh bleeding flashed on and off, sending icy shivers from her head to her toes. This hospital didn't help in comforting her. She grabbed a chair from the corner of the room and took a seat right beside his bed. She was careful not to hurt his hand when she grabbed it. The wires inserted into them made them look unnatural and scary. "I'm going to stay here," I whispered to him. I stood up to lean above him and kiss his forehead gently. I could hear his heart monitor beep a little bit quicker. She grinned. "That's what you do to me," Josh told her, noticing his heart beating faster. "You've always done that to me." Hayley couldn't help but cry again. Her heart ached against her chest, and she couldn't bear to see Josh in the condition he was now. It was just too much for her to take in. They had just been married, that was the worst part. Now he was here when they could have been in bed, like they had planned. She sighed as she looked down at him, struggling to grab the t.v. remote control. "I should have asked this when I came in," she began. "I'll just ask now I guess. How are you feeling?" Josh let out a short chuckle before replying to her question. "I'm doing okay. My head hurts, it's like this uncomfortable ache. I hate it. But I'll be alright, you're here, and that's all I need." She blushed as he said this, letting an overdue grin appear on her lips. She's been frowning so much it felt good to let out a smile. "I'm so tired," Josh mumbled, his eyes struggling to stay open. "Go to sleep now," Hayley instructed, watching as he fell into peace. The worry faded away as she looked at him, his breathing slow and his face looking content.
A sudden shaking awoke Hayley, who was sleeping beside Josh's bed. She was asked to leave the hospital room. Doctors started running into the room, and she was slowly pushed out by a troubled nurse. "What's going on?" Hayley asked, breathless. She tried to peer into the room, but she was only held back by a closed door and rushed doctors. Her heart beat madly, she was so afraid of what was going on with Josh. They couldn't be loosing him. She would die if she lost him.
Josh paused, his vision beginning to focus as he tried to figure out where he was. The walls, floor and sky was white. It was like this room was lit with a white light. He was also standing in a line, seeming to go on forever. An old man with no hair stood in front of him, and behind him stood a woman a little bit older than his own mother. He observed everything around him, unsure exactly where he was. He couldn't be dead. "Excuse me?" He began, tapping one man's shoulder. "Where am I?"
"Why sonny, you're standing in line for judgement!" He replied happily in his grandfather-ly tone.
"Judged? For like..heaven and stuff?" Josh's eyes widened as the old man nodded in reply. He was dead. He couldn't be dead. He refused to be dead.
"I can't be dead!" He let out. "I don't want to be. I have so much left. Get me out of here," he panicked, stepping out of the line and beginning to run away from it. He had no idea where he was going, but that line was becoming farther and farther away from him and that convinced him he was getting further and further away from this place. He couldn't just accept this death. He wasn't going to die.
Josh came across an ocean, which popped out of nowhere. Warm sand brushed against his toes. Beside the ocean was a lush waterfall and a bright sky. He wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not. He hoped this was a dream.
That site looked like an exact replica of the beach he and Hayley were on. Josh looked out into the sky, finding a powerful energy within himself. He smiled up at the sun shining down his face, and he closed his eyes. Step by step he walked into the water and began to swim.
"I'm sorry," the doctor whispered to Hayley, who was being held in her mother's arms. "He was doing very well, but he lost too much blood from the gunshot." The doctor watched with glum eyes as Hayley sobbed into her mother's shoulders. "Do.." she turned to look at the room Josh was in and back toward the doctor. "Do you think I could see him?"
"Yes," the doctor acknowledged, nodding his head.
Each step Hayley took to that hospital room felt heavier than the first. Josh was in the same condition he was in before, but this time more pale. His heart monitor was a straight, flat line. It told her he was lifeless. This couldn't be happening. She had just married him, and now he lay here, dead.
"Josh," she squeaked, in hopes that his eyes would open to the sound of his name, like before.
They didn't.
"Wake up Josh," she commanded slowly. Soon her tears got to her. "Come on Josh, wake up!" She wailed, shaking him faster. "You can't leave me. You have to stay here!" The feeling that rushed through her body was unbelievable and overwhelming. Her thoughts were racing, bad, negative thoughts running in and out. Her breath slowed to normal pace as she continued to look at him. She couldn't accept he was gone. "You can't leave me.." She whispered again, leaning over to stroke his face. She closed her eyes and leaned to plant a kiss against his lips.
xoxoxo
"I told you that you had that affect on me," Josh said as he held Hayley's hand. He was alive. He was breathing and alive, and no matter how impossible it seemed, he beat the odds. He didn't die. Her kiss was enough to send his heart beating like as loud as thundering racehorses. The mere touch of her lips against his had his body in a frenzy. He fought to stay alive. And he was alive and recovering.
Also, Celeste had been identified as the shooter. Hayley had gotten into a frenzy when dealing with her at the court. She could look back to it and laugh at all the stupid things she did while walking into the court and seeing Celeste for the first time. "You bitch!" She yelled at her, resisting the temptation to pounce over at her and the lawyer and claw at her perfect face. The lawyer had to hold her back before having Hayley sit down calmly in front of the judge. Those were the times she knew she'd laugh back at. What she wouldn't laugh at was the fact that Celeste was thrown into jail. She wouldn't laugh. She would smile. She'd smile so widely, knowing she brought justice to Josh and put that ratty whore into jail.
"I can't wait until you're out of this place tomorrow," Hayley told Josh, holding onto his hand. Everyday during his recovery she went to this hospital to help him and feed him. A knock on the door interrupted them both. "Can I come in?" A voice asked, Hayley recognizing it to be Josh's mother. She had come here everyday, as well. "You're mom is here," Hayley said with a laugh. "Yup," Josh agreed, smiling at the sight of his mother. In her hands she held a cup of Starbucks. "For you, Hayley," his mother said, handing her the coffee. "That's unfair. I wanted it, but I can't have coffee yet, can I?" Josh told them, annoyance in his tone as he said that last sentence. Hayley giggled, shaking her head. "You're going to have to wait for it!" Hayley said, sipping her coffee in front of him in an attempt to make him jealous. "Stop torturing me with your coffee pleasure!" Josh told her, placing a hand over his eyes. Hayley continued to sip, giggling. "You will be the death of me," Josh told her, pouting. "You've already died once, and I saved you. How would I be the death of you when I have the power to save you?!" Hayley protested, smiling proudly. "Very true," Josh agreed. He flipped the hospital t.v. on, and, as if on cue, a loud man on the screen said "You two better stop fighting!" During a comedy show. This made Hayley and Josh burst out laughing, as well as his mother. "That man is right!" His mother said, catching her breath. Hayley smiled toward Josh. "Mother knows best," she giggled.
