Entertainment & Engagement Part 1: Reality TV
Posted by cindyvick86 from www.echoditto.com 2 mos ago
Have reality TV shows like Big Brother or American Idol - which challenge the audience to vote to determine the outcome of their entertainment - trained a generation of Americans to get to the polls and become more engaged citizens? Are shows like Big Brother responsible for the highest American youth voter turnout since 1972?

Reality TV Show Real Housewives Series Breeds Narcissism
Posted by lisaescott from www.allabouthim.com 6 mos ago
Part of the problem with Narcissism in America is junk reality programming. The Real Housewives Series on Bravo TV is a prime example. Talk about unapologetic narcissism at its finest. http://.allabouthim.com/reality-tv-breeds-narcisism

QoTD - Where is Reality TV Headed?
Posted by Lea V : ) from www.buzznet.com 7 mos ago
In deciding which QoTD classic to ressurect for today, I found one that was done almost one year ago to this day. I'm on a reality TV kick lately; and since May 2008 when this question was suggested, we've had a myriad of new reality TV shows go off in the most insane directions imaginable including: The Baby Borrowers (NBC), Clash of the Choirs (NBC), Make Me a Supermodel (Bravo), Celebrity Rehab (VH1), Parking Wars (A&E), Crowned: The Mother of All Pagents (CW), Party Mamas (WEtv)...just to name a few. So, what else do you think reality TV will dredge up for programming? What's next? On the flip side, do you think there's something you'd like to see reality TV handle. For example, the place where I work is in talks with TNT to provide a weekly reality-type program following some interesting patient stories and the things they experience going through their treatments, etc., and also following some of the physicians at Mayo Clinic and their stories. So, head on over to the QoTD and discuss!
Just as an aside, there'll be no QoTD questions for Friday or Monday...so, you can bump your own! |

QOTD: Are reality TV shows fake or real?
Posted by PanasonicYouth from www.buzznet.com 2 yrs 1 mo ago
We've heard shows like The Hills are scripted. (Sorta.) And that the events taking place on screen are edited to appear a certain way. But do you believe that reality television is a representation of actual reality? Or is it all fake? What kind of influence do these shows have on your society?
