Happy Birthday to me... I turned 36 today. I guess that's better than the alternative. ;) One of the ladies at work gave me a card that said "Just think...you could be this old AND pregnant!" OMG that would be the end of the world, I think! LOL I did get a lot of calls and emails today, so communicating with family and friends made this day great for me...for the most part.
I have spent a fair amount of time today arguing with a complete idiot on an internet forum I visit frequently...and that's got me in a bad mood. I don't expect people to all agree with me or share my views of politics, religion, abortion, child-rearing, and social problems, but I do expect that when people do argue with me, they at least make sense and not act like morons. That does nothing but piss me off and takes the fun out of debate. But since I'm in a rather pissy mood, I'll just go ahead and share my views and get them out in the open.
I'm tired of having to feel ashamed or guilty of my patriotism. Yes, I'm a Republican. Yes, I voted for Bush. Yes, I support the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and I'll support it wherever we go if it helps our country and my children to be more secure. I'm tired of Bush being blamed for everything from foot fungus to hurricanes to the misalignment of the planets. Damn, I only WISH he had that kind of power. Then we might really get some ass kicked and some names taken. ;)
I am pro-choice. I may not ever personally be able to bring myself to have an abortion, but I'll be damned if it's not MY decision to make. I'd defend to the death any other woman's right to make whatever decision she needs to make regarding her life, her baby's life, and the choices she makes are what she needs to deal with herself...and her God (whomever that might be). I do support a ban on late-term abortions (past 24 weeks) except in instances that are medically indicated. I believe that life does begin at conception, but the quality of that life is unsupportable outside the womb prior to about 20 weeks, and I have little issue with a woman making the decision to terminate a pregnancy early on if it is medically necessary or if the situation is such that the baby would not be raised in a healthy, safe, loving environment. I guess I'll burn in hell for that but that's my problem, not yours. That is, if there is a hell at all.
I am growing increasingly more agnostic every day. Yeah, I believe there is a God of some sort. He might live up in the sky in a place called heaven, or he might not. He might not be a he, anyway. I think there is some sort of higher power but I'm not sure who or what it is. If that means I'll burn in hell for all eternity, so be it. You shouldn't have to worry about saving my soul though, since you won't be there with me obviously. ;)
I could go on and on about things that piss me off in the world today, but I've ranted enough. This is my freaking birthday... and I'm hoping to make the most of it. :)
