QOTD: Does changing the gender or race of a character damage a film's credibility?

21 may have been successful, but many are crying foul because the film removed all of the Asian-American characters. Do you think a film loses it's credibility when it changes its main characters' gender or race? Why do you think directors and casting agents do this? Is it worth it to do this if it sells more tickets?

While we may be living in one of the more progressive eras of history, racism is still a reality all around the world. Have you ever had an experience where you were mistreated because of your perceived race? What happened and how did it make you feel? Did you do anything to correct that person's assumption?
