Portishead to release 'Third' limited-edition box set

Portishead, who have triumphantly returned with their forthcoming album Third, will release a limited-edition box set all ready for pre-order at their Web site. The album will be released April 29, while the box set will drop the day before in the U.K.

The box-set packaging looks stunning, but there are only 10,000 copies. And that USB version shaped in the band's trademark 'P' design? DOPE. I love limited-edition artwork, modified formats or anything that makes an album more tangible.

Meanwhile, the album's first single, "Machine Gun", is out today as a digital download. An etched, one-sided 12" vinyl version will be ready April 14.

The limited-edition box set includes:

- "P"- shaped USB version featuring Third and four films (Ade's House, Machine Gun; The Rip Live @ Mr. Wolfe's, We Carry On, and The Truly Spectacular Universal Conference Film)
- Double-vinyl album copy
- Etched 12” vinyl of "Machine Gun"
- Limited edition print from artist Nick Uff.

You can pre-order at portishead.co.uk now for £40, which roughly translates into $80. Did I mention that the mighty Portishead will play Coachella this spring? I did.
