Weezer Issue New Single; Cover The Band, Talk Talk on 'Red Album' U.K. Edition

In another day filled with exciting Weezer news, the band has issued a new single and announced that British fans will get some extra treats on their copies of The Red Album.

Two extra tracks have been added to the U.K. version of the effort, which is hitting stores on June 16. (The U.S. version streets on June 3.) Both tracks are cover songs that you may not have expected to come from Weezer. The first is a cover of the 1968 song "The Weight" by rockers The Band and the other is a rendition of the 1986 new-wave tune "Life's What You Make of It" by Talk Talk. (No Doubt fans are well aware of the latter group – Gwen Stefani and company covered the band's song "It's My Life" on their 2003 comp, The Singles 1992-2003.)

Weezer, who have been riding on the huge success of the album's first single, "Pork and Beans," further whet fans' appetites on Thursday with the release of another single, "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)," on iTunes.

Hungry for more Weezer news? Buzznet spoke with bassist Scott Shriner yesterday about the new album and Weezer's upcoming "Pork and Beans" video, which will be filled with YouTube celebrities.
