Great Lakes Tissue Company polluting our air and our river! This river opens up directly into Lake Huron! Our county has the highest cancer rate in the state! We also lead the state in auto immune diseases! I think it is all connected! (you can't see it, but the river is between me and the plant)

When I was driving in my downtown area yesterday I saw this mountain of snow right out by the main street going though town. I even went back just to get some photos of it that's my bank in the background. Okay, so see that smokey towery thing in the background, I was kinda next to that last night. Me and a HUGE group of people went to Club Sugar for Natalie's birthday. I went because I would have felt bad if I didn't and maybe sometimes it's good to be out of your comfort zone. Well....let's just say I AM NEVER going clubbing again. That is the total opposite of my scene. I'm pretty sure my body actually shut down because of my awkwardness and after attempting to dance for an hourish, 2 hours, I don't know (THERE WERE NO CLOCKS *DIES*) Matt wanted to sit down so I joined him. It was an awkward night. Everyone there was a stereotype (surely not everyone, Rhianna! No, it was everyone.) Yeah, I'll stick to my nerdy hobbies and fun places that aren't so awkward.

Went out walking along the beach for the first time in forever, and thank my lucky stars that I couldn't have picked a better day to do it (re: there was a lot of interesting junk washed up along the shores). Thanks to inspiration (i.e. myself mucking up some drawings that I'd been working on) for making me go out into the wild. (Parentheses rule.) (Also, I'll end up posting some more pictures over the next few days.)

This is the Ormond Beach electric plant – kinda the companion bookend (further back in this gallery) of the other one here in Ventura County. That one supplies the local power; this one's towers (again, further back in this gallery) march out of here and over mountains and south of L.A. (I think to the Inland Empire). But that’s not the interesting part of this picture. See that big, brown pile to the left of the plant? It’s a slag heap. A massive man-made mountain of 40 years worth of the leftovers from a metals recycling company, called Halaco. The EPA’s guarding it now. They were finally prodded into action by an environmental group. Halaco was legal and licensed by the city of Oxnard. The employees were paid quite well. It sits a mile or so from the Hueneme pier, where I posted those pics of the people fishing last weekend. And it’s right next to the beach – and the ocean.

The connection of Bible and environmental crisis is an invitation to a new, responsible sanity - after too much economic insanity." Warren Geier, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, said Brueggemann has the "unique ability to speak to general audiences and to bring out the truth of Biblical texts as they relate to our contemporary religious, cultural, political and economic situation." "Using the Bible he will challenge the assumptions and certainties of both conservatives and liberals - issues like sulfide mining are not just about economics versus care of the environment," said Geier. "For people of faith there is a theological component to environmental issues and Dr. Brueggemann will help all of us to understand it." Brueggemann will hold a free public lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 at the University Center at Northern Michigan University on "Theology of Creation and the Environmental Crisis." A preaching workshop for clergy and lay church workers led by Dr. Brueggemann will be held on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 9 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. The cost is $20 with lunch included and a reservation is required. The discussion will focus on "Biblical Preaching in the Shadow of the Empire." "He sees the Bible as a work of poetic imagination which offers an alternative to what have become the accepted ways of our world." Brueggemann participated in Bill Moyers acclaimed PBS television series on the Book of Genesis. A graduate of Elmhurst College, Professor Brueggemann studied at Eden Theological Seminary, receiving his Doctorate of Divinity from Union theological Seminary, New York, and a Ph.D from Saint Louis University. 5 million people later... These stories of pollution just kill me, and many others. I hope by knowing we can make a difference. That is not always the case however. So many issues. How do we all keep up? It's amazing how we all seem to have our causes. I guess I share this link to see if this is yours. They need help.

Wow! I saw this in Time a few weeks ago. It portrays the horrid effects of global warming. Seen here is a polar bear negotiating what was once solid ice. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this one is worth a million.
