I wanted to show you my 2 daffodils that came up this year, for years only one would come up. I planned on this just being an Earth day photo but word came that the singer Richie Havens passed away on Earth day April 22nd. Richie was such an amazing folk singer he sang his song "Freedom" at Woodstock the famous concert in August of 1969 in upstate New York. He was born in Brooklyn 72 years ago and always felt a need to protect the environment. It's so ironic that he died on Earth Day. Richie was the first person to sing at Woodstock, he was supossed to be 5th but because the concert drew such horrible traffic jams the first 5 acts were stuck in traffic and could not make it there in time. Woodstock was the concert that could never be repeated to this very day even though people have tried. It was 3 Day's of Peace and Music : )

One of my good friends in the 70's was his guitar player. I wanted to find a video with him playing and I think I found one but I wasn't completely sure. That was almost 40 years ago. Richie will be missed on Long Island he did many concerts here over the decades. He was truly a wonderful man and musician : )

Well, finally, most of our snow has melted ! No new snow has fallen since Saturday morning, but even that melted by noon! But...the ice is still on the lake! Well all the inland lakes! There are some cracks down the road from where my mom lives, but it is still pretty darn solid ! We are all taking bets on when it will all be out! My guess is May 1! My mom picked May 15! Since she lives there, she is probably right! She watches the ice go out every year!

I want to thank you all for being so AMAZING and supportive about my health issues! This family we have going here is just the BEST!!! I love you all and send big HUGZ!!! (:

Happy Birthday, Shakespeare!

Shakespeare`s birthday is coming up this week and The Globe in London (which - I had to find out - isn`t the real building just a reconstruction . The original Globe was few metres away from the current) celebrated at the weekend with free entry into the famous theatre. Of course I went in.

The interesting thing in Shakespeare is, we don`t know exactly when was he born or when did he die but the two possible dates are very close to each other...if not the same...but we can`t celebrate someone`s death...that would be weird. (I`d put here "not even Margaret Thatcher`s" but I don`t do politics)

On other note: I`m on serious flat hunt so I`m looking at places for rent in London online all day. Right now I`m excited about a boat house although I have no idea how I am going to pay anything. I should start hunting for job as well because my savings won`t last for not even a minute if the future landlords ask for months of deposit in advance. Worst case scenario, you can find me camping under Tower Bridge.

Hamburg Marathon

On Sunday morning I watched the Hamburg Marathon at my mom's place. The route went past her house and I watched the spectacle from the window before going down to the street to get a closer look. The runners had wristbands in remembrane of last week's tragic events in Boston. I was amazed by the runners' happy faces and how thankful they were for the cheering people on the side of the street. It was really inspiring and fun to watch :)

We spent both Saturday and Sunday afternoon on the beach by the river. It was a little windy but the sun was shining and I got to work on my crochet blanket. It's one of the bigger projects I have done yet and I'm super excited. My next project is a giant granny square blanket for my pregnant friend's baby shower. :)
