Flapjack, Star Wars and Zombies (My adventure @ the Cheap Date tour, 12/04/09)

San Francisco was cold, dark and windy.

My sister Kim and I went with our friend Nic to San Francisco on Friday to see Artist vs. Poet, Sing it Loud, the Rocket Summer, Forever the Sickest Kids and My Favorite Highway at the Cheap Date tour at the Regency Ballroom.

We had originally planned to leave right at 4PM, but we got delayed and went about 20 min. late =( we went to pick up Nic. It was going to be her first concert ever and I was happy to share that experience with her.

By the time we got there, there was already a line that stretched onto the other side of the street! =( I was bummed out to say the least. I had wanted to be one of the first to get in or at least close to the beginning of the line.

I was left alone in line while Nic and Kim went to Peet's Coffee shop to get a hot cocoa and a chocolate chip cookie. While they were gone, I endured the ridiculous cold. No kidding! It was fucking freezing and I couldn't stop myself from shaking!!! =(

But across the street from us were the band's buses and trailers. I saw some guy walk to the side of the bus with Sing it Loud's Sick Boy!!!! I wasn't sure it was him though. He was pretty far away. But it turned out that it was! I wanted to go and talk to him but I knew I'd lose my place. The line was getting bigger! Insane big! =/ I was really happy I wasn't at the very back.

Sick Boy left and Kim and Nic came back. I tried to tell them I thought I spotted Sick Boy! =) a few minutes after that we got a glimpse of him walking around and Kim confirmed that it WAS Sick Boy! =)

The guy Sick Boy had been walking w/ before was going around the line saying 'meet and greets'!

Nic asked him what he meant but the guy said forget it and rudely walked away! =( a bunch of people followed the guy and went down the street where the end of the line was. There was some tall guy in a beanie and a striped jacket we thought was Kyle! (It wasn't IDK who he is!) And we were really jealous b/c we thought it was FTSK, but it was probably My Favorite Highway or something b/c I didn't recognize anyone there.

When we were getting into the venue, it was late, like 6:15PM or something. We had to open our black backpack to some security guard woman, who inspected it and confiscated our Sharpies! =( she also took a bar or Twix and bag of Skittles. =( I was totally bummed out and PO'd. we'd bought those candies for the guys! (Twix for Kieren Smith of Sing it Loud b/c he's as sexy as chocolate! Hehehe =) and Sour Skittles for Nate Flynn!)

She said she'd give it back to us after the show =( I was happy Kim had hidden our presents in a small purple bag inside the backpack, hidden by scarves. =0 we had bought Jason Dean of Artist Vs. Poet a blue lightsaber, Star Wars sticker book and Star Wars playing cards since he, like us, was a Star Wars fan. =) we bought Kyle Burns of FTSK 2 CLIF bars, Crunchy Peanut Butter and Black Cherry Almond. He'd asked for them on his Twitter (but didn't specify which flavors he wanted!) so we bought them at Walgreens. =) we also brought a Flapjack pin for Bryce Avary of the Rocket Summer. I love Flapjack! =) And Bryce reminds me of him that's why I wanted to give it to him.

I saw FTSK necklaces on sale for $10. I always wanted once since I saw J-Cook wearing it. But I didn't buy it b/c I thought I'd spend my money on other shirts.

I bought FTSK's latest EP from Ziggy, their merch guy. Ziggy gave me a big promo poster of the band with my purchase.

I bought TRS's EP from Bryce's wife, I think. A pretty girl with auburn hair who also gave me a free TRS poster!

I bought AVP's EP and a purple SIL shirt.

On the back of the EP it said that their full length would come out March 2, 2010! I can't wait! =)

While I was buying the EP, Nic came out to get me and we walked towards the stage next to Kim. We were in the 3rd row, waiting for AVP to start.

We were totally stoked! I'd never seen them live before and I wanted to see them in action.

They came on and started out with a weird metal-ish song I'd never heard before! It was weird! =) it sounded techno-ish! It was pretty crazy.

Jason Dean was head-banging hardcore w/ Tarcy onstage.

AVP setlist

•1)      Weird metal song

•2)      Assurance Closure

•3)      Lisa Marie

•4)      Damn Rough Night

•5)      Runaway

During "Lisa Marie", Tarcy wrapped the mic cord around his neck. I was totally stoked! =) I really like "Runaway" and "Damn Rough Night" so I was happy they played them.

My Favorite Highway came on, some guys I'd never heard of. Not to be mean or anything but all their songs sounded the same and a little cheesy live like they were trying to rip off Bryce Avary or something. IDK about them =(

Things got interesting when the second song hit. We saw Nate Flynn on the side of the stage, taking pix of the band playing live w/ his phone. He was mouthing the words. We tried to take pix of him but his side of the stage was really dark and you really couldn't see anything I the pix!

MFH played "Say So" and pat brown came onstage and started singing w/ them.

During the set we saw Jason Dean on his phone in the balcony! OMFG I love Jason Dean! He totally PWNZ! I waved @ him and he smiled, waving back! Then I made a heart w/ my hands and he made the heart back! =) you can only imagine what a total fan girl moment I had! =)

We looked up at the balcony and saw Craig Calloway and Tarcy Thomason from AVP making out w/ their girlfriends (hardcore)!!!! It was weird and I felt embarrassed and we looked away. =(

After MFH, SIL came on. That was our second time seeing Sing it Loud (we saw them @ warped) but Kieren wasn't there.  =( it totes bummed me out b/c I really like Kieren. I totally regretted not meeting him @ Warped. I thought it was going to be my chance to meet him on Cheap Date, but I guess it wasn't =( the band started out w/ "Best Beating Heart" and Pat Brown and Nate Flynn were bouncing around towards the end of the song. He had on only a blue jacket and it was unzipped. Nate Flynn looked like he was in pure joy, dancing the whole way through the set.

Pat Brown said that it was a special night b/c Nate Flynn got a mic, since Kieren wasn't there. Nate Flynn called the crowd "beautiful people" and the explained that at the LA stop, which was the one before ours, their trailer broke down and Kieren had to stay back w/ it to buy another one. They said that they had originally planned to cancel the rest of the dates, but changed their minds.

Nate Flynn said that in LA someone had stolen his & Kieren's iPhones, Pat brown's laptop and $140 from Nate Flynn's wallet. They said the trailer broke down 2 separate times during the tour & according to Nate Flynn, the band had a "rough week". =( I felt really bad for them. How could anyone do something like that?!?!?! How could someone steal something so important from them w/ all their personal info?

During the set, Nate Flynn stopped & told the crowd to chant "Kieren!" while he filmed it. He said he was gonna send it to Kieren in LA. =) I thought that was really sweet of him =) I chanted Kieren's name as loud as I could.

SIL sang "Sugar Sweet", a new track off their album coming out in March. I took a vid of it. It's a bit messed up b/c ppl kept crowd surfing! Hehehe =) they hit me a couple of times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj1iku0R0ow

During the song, Nate Flynn was dancing and shaking his booty next to Ben. Ben slapped his butt!!!! Scandalous, I know! =) the band said they wanted to come to SF in March. At the end, Nate Flynn crowd surfed bare-chested! I was totally stoked! He came like, right next to me through the crowd! =) kim touched his armpit & I touched his armpit, sweaty arm and his chest! Nate looked like he was really happy, his eyes closed and smiling all the time, but then he looked like he was in pure ecstasy when my hand was on top of his nipple! =)

That was kriffing* crazy! =) it was really soft and I kid of massaged it for at least 10 seconds! Hehehe =)

Nate flynn's a total hottie!

Sing it Loud setlist:

•1)      Best Beating Heart

•2)      Bite Your Lip

•3)      Sugar Sweet

•4)      I've Got A Feeling

•5)      No One Can Touch Us

•6)      Come Around

When they were setting up for The Rocket Summer, Bryce had these little globes that lit up and said things like "Hope, truth, frustration, self-improvement, restoration, failure and triumph" then Bryce came out & he was doing solos on all his instruments, smiling at the crowd, pointing and looking really cute. Then he started dancing and did the moonwalk! =) everyone cheered! He looked totally cute!

During "You Gotta Believe", Pat Brown came out to sing w/ him.

Bryce took a picture of the crowd and posted it on his Facebook.

After a few songs, Bryce disappeared from the stage, surprising everyone. Then he suddenly said, "Hey, I'm here in the crowd!" (Or something along the lines of that). Everyone screamed & turned around. I ran off, abandoning Kim & Nic & went to where Bryce was. Unfortunately, there was a really big crowd where Bryce was. Everyone had their camera out, so it was kind of hard to take pix of him. =(

He finished the song he dedicated to the organization, Invisible Children, and said that he wanted to get back to the stage, but he needed everyone's help. Everyone was kind of confused, but then it registered; he wanted to crowd surf! =) & Bryce did! I took these pix!

Bryce is so amazing! When he got back to the stage, he sang "Hills & Valleys" and threw confetti. We picked up some and put it in a plastic baggie.

The Rocket Summer setlist:

•1)      Break it Out

•2)      Do You Feel

•3)      Save Me

•4)      You Gotta Believe (feat. Pat Brown!)

•5)      So Much Love (amazing song, I love it!)

•6)      An old TRS song

•7)      Hills & Valleys (OMFG, my fave off the EP!)

•8)      So, In This Hour

While FTSK were setting up, Tarcy of AVP & Pat brown appeared on the balcony w/ some fans, but you can't see Tarcy in this pic. BTW, Pat's the one in the gray tank!

I think this is when tarcy took the pic of the crowd that he posted on his Twitter.

Pat brown had a drink in his hand. I waved frantically as he looked down at the crowd, hoping that he would see me, but I knew my chances were slim. =/ he did & he waved back! =) I knew I was pushing my luck, hoping the same thing w. Jason Dean would happen w/ the heart, so I raised my hands & made another heart. He's not gonna do it, he has a drink in his hand, I thought. To my surprise, pat proved me wrong. He put down his drink on the railing and made a heart back!!!! =) Hehehe he totally PWNZ! I don't believe it! I love Pat Brown! =)

A loud screeching came on through the speakers and a fake principal's voice (named "Mr. Mister"!) came over the PA, greeting the students @ FTSK High School, calling in 6 'students' to the 'office'. All of FTSK came out, jumping around.

They launched into "Believe Me, I'm Lying".

During the set, Jonathan Cook was playing w/ the mic chord, saying that he loved the crowd and we were "on steroids". During the set, Kim put her arm up in the air and J-Cook interpreted it as a wave and waved back! =) Kim was like 'OMFG!' next to me.

Jonathan was air-guitar-ing during one of the songs, being really energetic & jumping all over the place. He asked the crowd to do spirit fingers & the all did.

Caleb & Jonathan said that SF was the most beautiful city & they said they'd never seen so many kids jumping @ one of their shows. Jonathan said he'd gone to Fisherman's Warf & bought an oyster. He said that when he opened the oyster, there was a little pearl inside and that he'd keep it to remember SF forever! =) I thought that was so sweet! =) Then Caleb did this weird jazzy "Ooh!"

They left abruptly, and the crowd started cheering "one more song! One more song!" Kim was totes stoked because they came back out and eventually played "What Do You Want From Me," her fave song off The Weekend: Friday EP. Jonathan said he really meant it when he said San Francisco was his home away from home and that he was so sorry it took so long to come back. =)

FTSK Set list:

•1)      Believe Me I'm Lying

2) Catastrophe

3) Hey Brittany

4) Becky Starz

5) The Way She Moves

6) Breakdown

7) She's A Lady

8) What Do You Want From Me

9) Whoa! (Me vs. Everyone)

When their set ended, we made a pit stop in the bathroom. We fixed our hair to look acceptable

fer the pictures and did a quick recap of what had happened.

We got out and went to the lobby, where ppl were buying merch and the guys from bands were talking to fans. We looked around fer the security guard woman who'd taken the candy and sharpies, but we couldn't find her at all. =(

Then we saw Jason Dean of Artist vs. Poet by the bar, standing next to the AVP merch table all alone. We immediately went to him. He was tall, stunning, drop-dead gorgeous! =) His blue eyes stood out against his pale skin and he had a delicious smile. He had really sexy freckles.

"Hi, Jason!" I said. He smiled and said hi back. I asked him if he'd gotten my Tweet (I'd tweeted him earlier that day, my tweet reading: "@JasonAVP: San Francisco surprise! Impending..." He said no, what did it say?

I asked him if he was a Star Wars fan.

"Yeah, yeah, I am," he said, the question bringing a smile to his lips. He looked at me right in the eyes and I got all nervous and embarrassed (he's so hot!) and looked down.

"Well, since I knew you liked Star Wars, we got you something!" I was unzipping the backpack and Kim later told me that he had looked really curious.

I took out the Star Wars stuff, handing it to him.

"You shouldn't have!" he said all excited. He was beaming, his eyes wide and a big smile on his face. He gave me a hug. =)

He thanked us as I broke away from the hug. But Kim came forward and I hugged Nic, calling out a group hug. =)

Jason said, "Group hug!" and Kim said "Group hug!" right after him. We embraced! =) Gah, I get so giddy just thinking about it! OMFG, Jason Dean! 0_o Then we took pix with him.

"Can I ask you a question on video?" I asked Jason. He was still smiling and played with the lightsaber. It shot open and came close to hitting a girl in a purple shirt with blond hair in the face!

"Sure," Jason Dean nodded. I asked him the Question, a Question I ask ppl I meet at concerts from now on. I tried to ask, "If ye had to choose, would you rather die in a zombie invasion in 2012 or an asteroid hitting the Earth in 2036?" The big dumbo that I am, I paraphrased and called it a meteor instead of an asteroid. =( But he answered! =) He PWNZ! I loved his answer, he's so hot! He was playing with the lightsaber through the video, just watch the blue blur on the bottom right side of the vid.

http://vimeo.com/8005888

I asked him who his fave Star Wars character was.

"Ah, that's a toss-up," he replied, thinking about it. He looked down at me. "I really like Boba Fett, but I also like Darth Maul," he said. He went on to tell me that he also like Luke Skywalker.

He asked me who my fave character was and I said, "Greedo! He's evil and all."

Then he asked if I watched the animated series on Cartoon Network and I answered yes before he finished the question, thinking he was talking about Star Wars: Clone Wars animated movie that came out like last year. So basically, I lied to Jason Dean. =(

Kim asked him if he read the novels, and he said "Yeah!" He asked me which one was the last one I'd read and I said that Kim and I were reading a Darth Bane novel (Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path Of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn, to be exact).

He said he'd never heard of Darth Bane before. I asked him what was the last book he'd read, and he was about to answer, but he got distracted. Nic had already gone away, so I just went after her.

Next to the merch table and behind the bar was AVP's Craig Calloway! He had on a cute plaid shirt and was just standing around. I noticed he was wearing the same brand (SV) as Cameron Leahy from The Downtown Fiction and Nick Santino of ARTTM.

We took pictures with him. He was really nice and cute! Kim told him his cheek was really soft and he just laughed cutely! =)

Tarcy was standing right next to him, so we asked him fer a picture. =) He was being really nice and looked cutely nervous! =)

The merch tables were right next to each other, and Sick Boy of Sing It Loud was just a few feet away. We thanked Tarcy and went over to take pix with Sick Boy! =) He looks sickly cute! Hehehehe =)

After that, we saw a big line at the TRS merch table, next to SIL's, and I saw Bryce! I was like, OMFG, it's Bryce! I'd never met him before, so I was really excited! =) I cut in line (I'm evil, I know, but it's not like anyone noticed).

"Who is he?" Nic asked me.

"He's Bryce Avary of the Rocket Summer," I explained. "He's the one who looks like Flapjack."

"Did you say Flapjack?" a girl in front of me asked. She looked mildly amused.

"Yeah, doesn't Bryce look like him?" I answered.

"I totally see the resemblance!" she laughed after studying Bryce fer a few seconds.

The line moved and the girl took a picture with Bryce, and we were almost up next.

Some ppl had bought posters and were getting Bryce to sign them. He had a black Sharpie and was signing someone's poster before we got to him.

"I'm sorry," he said, shaking the Sharpie back and forth. "It's fading." He scrunched up his nose and looked at the person, then retraced his signature.

There was another girl in front of me who asked if I could take a pic of her with Bryce. I said sure and she thanked me. After I took it, she told me it looked perfect! Hehehe =)

"Hi, Bryce!" I said coolly, holding out my hand. I asked him if he could sign it and handed him a little red Sharpie I'd found. I felt so lucky I'd gotten it! =) He did sign it! =)

I asked him if he'd ever heard of Flapjack.

His eyebrows scrunched up in thought, his mouth forming a smile.

"No, what's that?" he asked, shaking his head.

"It's a cartoon, and you remind me of the main character," I explained. I took the Flapjack pin out of my pocket and gave it to him. He held it up to his face, studied it, and laughed.

"He's cute, blond, and bubbly, just like you!" I kinda regretted telling him that later, but at least it made him laugh! =)

I asked him fer a pic, and he said yes.

"Can I have this?" he asked, holding up my little red Sharpie. "I'll give you this," he said, wagging the malfunctioning black Sharpie at me.

"You want mine fer the one who doesn't work?" I asked, thinking out loud. My eyebrows rose up in surprise.

"Yeah," he answered, half-whispering. He sounded reluctant.

"No," I said, embarrassed and looking down. I knew that Bryce needed it and wanted it, but I needed it, too. I didn't have another Sharpie, and I wanted to get some things signed.

"I'm sorry," he said regrettably. "That was so low of me. You don't have to give it to me. But you can if you want to," he added as an afterthought.

            "No," I said. "Thanks, Bryce."

I immediately felt guilty as Nic, Kim, and I walked away. I felt selfish. Bryce needed that damn Sharpie. Who was I to say no?

We continued our search for the security guard woman, but she was nowhere in sight. We were totally worried. We asked one of the security guards if he'd seen the woman. He said he'd check, and it turns out she'd already left.

The guards told us there was a bag of all the stuff they'd confiscated and we could look fer our stuff there. But someone had already taken the candy!! =( But at least they left our big-ass black Sharpie, normal black and silver Sharpies. =/ Not only had they taken the Twix bar and the bag of Sour Skittles, they'd also taken my orange Sharpie! =( I was so mad. How could someone steal something like that?! =(

We went outside the venue, and that's when it hit me that I should've gone back and given it to Bryce, since now I had most of my markers back, but I couldn't since there was no re-entry! =( I felt really guilty, and I promised myself that next time I go see TRS, I'd sneak a whole pack of little Sharpies to make it up to Bryce! =)

We saw some girls waiting by the buses. Security had put a barricade that reached from the back of a bus' trailer to the wall of the Regency, cutting off the side of the street next to the venue.

All of a sudden, Jonathan Cook was walking up the closed-off street, pushing the barricade to get our and then putting it back in place!

OMFG! I couldn't believe it was J-Cook! =) He was wearing a leather jacket over a white shirt, a cute blue Neff beanie, and a sombrero tied around his neck.

He looked totes cute! =) Everyone gathered around him as he was getting out of the barricade, and it was really hard to get his attention.

"Let's move over here guys!" he said, walking to the corner of the street. "I'm getting claustrophobic!"

But Jonathan didn't like that spot fer long either, and made us move onto the sidewalk.

It was really crazy! There were so many people! Nic got him to sign a green lollipop she'd brought to the show, and he did! I got him to sign my FTSK poster and was about to ask him fer a picture and he looked at me momentarily, but then got distracted again.

Kim and I did manage to take pix with him.

Nic didn't want to b/c she got upset that she kept asking and she thought he was ignoring her, when in reality it was just that he was overwhelmed with all the fans.

I wanted to ask him the Question too and while we were waiting, Kim took this awesome picture!

It's so cute! OMFG OMFG! I love his smile! He looks really hot! Hehehehe =)

Moments after Kim took that picture, Jonathan went all rebellious! He turned to the Regency's wall and tagged it up! Hehehehe =) We caught him in the act, but I didn't understand what it means!

I finally got his attention and asked if I could take the vid. He said sure, and I asked him the Question and he came up with a random answer! Hehehehe =) He made everyone laugh!

IDK why he walked away so hurriedly! I think he just did it fer the vid, to make it look like a dramatic exit. Hehehehe =) He had nowhere to go but straight into the wall!

http://vimeo.com/8005936

After Jonathan, we turned around and went towards the back of the trailer. Austin was standing there in his beanie, crowded by girls.

I asked him if I could ask him the Question and he said yes. Hehehehe =) Austin's so funny!

http://vimeo.com/8006003

The reason I look kinda off at the end of the vid is b/c I asked Austin why he was looking at me if he was s'posed to be talking to the camera.

"Well, you're the one asking the question," he laughed. Everyone laughed at me! I felt embarrassed! Hehehe =) Austin's so evil!

too long! continuing my part 2 later!

First Ever Warped! Blog part 1

Hey dudes! So as some of ye may know, I went to Warped tour in Mountain View on Thursday. It was totally awesome, and the day didn't go terribly wrong, even if it was my first. I didn't get stuck in a port-a-potty, or lose my loaded wallet. There were lots of bathrooms at the Shoreline (real, flush-capable ones), and I didn't lose anything, thankfully. The weather was nice, and there was bit of wind, so the crowds weren't so hot. Basically, the weather was a godsend!

So this is how my day went. Kim, my sis (Diehardroxx), and I were nervous as hell the day before Warped, so we couldn't sleep. We were awake almost all night, and I couldn't convince my brain to fall asleep, even if I knew I'd need it for the following day (and I was so right! =) ) we awoke at like 6:15, and dressed as well as ate and did our hair, hoping that it'd stay put fer the rest of the days fer pictures. Luckily, it did its job fer the most part. =)

We were set to leave at 9am, but my mom wanted to leave at 10:30am. I knew it was an insane time, but we finally settled on 9:30. (the actual show started at 11am) she'd decided to tag along with us just the day before, and was totally clueless about what Warped was gonna be like. She thought Warped was gonna be really small, and that there weren't going to be a lot of bands playing. Boy, was she wrong.

By the time we got dropped off, it was a little bit of 10:30am, and fuck, the lines were LONG! We had to cross a whole other street, because the line was so long, it had to be split in half. The whole time I was like 'I told you!' to my mom, who was really surprised at the crowd. People were coming up with their iPods trying to get us to buy their CDs. Some of them were really nice, giving us a listen, and it was hard to say no. but I did, eventually. To ALL of them. I mean, I didn't hear all their music, and couldn't buy their CD b/c of one song. But others were total asses. Like this guy from Valencia. I'd warmed up to the band after I heard that they were part of what went down in Philly with the cops, but FUCK. The guy (IDK who he was) was trying to convince me to buy the CD, and since Kim is totally not use to all of this, she got nervous and stood still and stiff, silent and unable to reply. Then he noticed Kim as he was talking and he was all like "So, she's not even acknowledging me, I'm not a human being, I'm a robot". But he said it in a loud voice, as if to command everyone's attention, and let them know we didn't want to buy his CD. There's going to have to be a lot of convincing for me to ever like them again. He was being such an ass! =( I know that he wanted to sell CDs and stuff, but he came off like such a jerk. =(

While in line, Kim and I saw Garrett, Kennedy, and Pat walking around, announcing that they were playing the Hurley stage at 11:15 am. We didn't say anything, b/c fuck, we were scared and nervous! =) They were gorgeous, all dressed in tank tops (except Pat) and Kenny and Gerr in sunglasses. They passed us and went towards the end of the line. Then they came back and I worked up the nerve to ask them for a picture. I walked through the crowd of people walking to the back of the line, and said "Hey guys!"

They all turned around to look at me, and Garrett's mouth was in an 'O'. "Can I have a picture?"

"Uh," Pat said, looking around instead of at me, and just by uttering that word, I knew that he'd say no, and looked down. "We're running late right now, but we can hang out after the show."

I felt really bad and stupid, knowing that everyone in line was looking at me. "OK," I said, smiling. It wasn't their fault after all, and it would be selfish to hold them back. "Can I have a hug?"

"Sure!" Pat said, and leaned over for a hug. I saw his pretty face up-close, his eyes wandering. I hugged him, and he was really skinny (uh, duh, Jack! All the scene boys are like that! =P) I was planning on asking Garrett for a hug, but as soon as I broke away, he and Pat hurried along. (Kennedy had already left)

Coming back to the line, I knew that some people were looking at me. Some stupid "tuffie-wuffie (that sounds weird, I know! But there's no other way to describe them!) metal heads behind me laughed, probably at my rejection. Kim told me that I looked really chill, and not all stalker-ish with Pat. Whatever. It was cool hugging Pat! =)

'Fuck!' I muttered. It was already 11am, and the line wasn't budging. Eventually we did get in, but there were only like 5 minutes before the Maine was set to play! Curse whomever scheduled them to play so early!

We went to the guys selling the schedules to know at what tine the bands were playing, but came to a dead halt when we saw This Providence (minus one, Gavin wasn't there!)! they were handing out small papers that announced that they were playing the Kia Kevin Says Stage at 5:55 PM. (I wonder, if them being a Christian band, had chosen the number =) )

I asked David if I could have a picture with him, and he said "Sure!" he has the world's cutest cheeks! And the most stunning eyes! OMFGZ. 0_o He towered over me, and his cute hair (which had recently been dyed and cut according to his Twitter) got in my eyes. Hehehe =) but he looked so cute!

I knew that Steph (http://lifelesslove.user.buzznet.com ) loves David, so I made a sing fer him to hold.

I asked David if he'd mind holding this and me taking a picture, and he studied the poster for a little bit and said that it was OK.

This is how the pic came out. I think he looked super cute, with a little bit of attitude. =)

I also know that Jenny (http://jdang.user.buzznet.com ) loves This Prov, and had brought brownies to one of their acoustic shows, so I made this poster for David to hold up.

I told him that she said hi, and asked him if he remembered the girl who came to their Pittsburgh acoustic show and brought them brownies, and he was all like "Oh, yeah!". So the pic came out looking like this, with David's attitude in full force! =)

OMFGZ, IDK how he could have said yes to everything! He's so nice! =)

I walked over to Dan, after he'd finished up a convo w/ some fans and asked fera  picture. He looked awfully cute in his small washed pink shirt, and his big retro glasses reminded me of a cop! Hehehe =)

Then I took a pic of Kim and Dan, and she said that she was jealous that Dan came out smiling in my pic and not in hers. I still think it's a cute pic!

We hurried over to the actual amphitheater, thinking that we'd found the Maine. But it wasn't; it was the Hurley.com and the Smartpunk stage, not the Hurley Stage! The big dumbo that I was, I hadn't seen the map at the back of the schedule or that the Maine had changed their time to 11:30am 'till then. But I had no way of knowing looking at the Hurley.com stage, since the backdrop just had the Hurley logo. Gah! =( My mom said she'd wait for us at one of the seats of the amphitheater.

So Kim and I hurried off, until we found the Maine at the Hurley stage. They were already really late into their set, and I knew that we'd missed most of it. =( I was really upset, because I LOVE THE MAINE!!!! And I'd gone to see them, specifically. But we did catch some songs, but the only one I can remember is the last one, "Girls Do What They Want." The whole time, John O' was singing barefoot. I love seeing the Maine. They make me really happy, and I love them live!

At one point, John O' was talking about some kids who had jumped the fence to get into Warped, and how none of them had been caught, except for one. He was saying that if he jumped the fence and the security guards got Garrett, he'd leave him there and bail. Everyone laughed at John O's joke, and Garrett came with a slow reply, ellipses indicating long pauses: "Yeah, kids, don't go jumping fences...Or big guys will...fucking rip your face off." Hehehe =) Gerr's so cute.

These are some pix of their live set. Not the best, but we'd gotten there late, so we didn't have a good spot. =/

When they hit their last song, I told Kim to go see Trey, whom John had pointed out during the show. Everyone had looked in Trey's direction, whom was standing inside the barricades of the Microphone for Youth tent, where the techs were at. Everyone waved at him. At first I thought I hadn't gotten him, but if ye look closely enough, ye can see Trey, with the CSWS sign!

We got over to where Trey was standing, until I built up the nerve to ask him fer a pic. He's gorgeous, BTW, and my main (no pun intended!) reason for going to Warped at all. Knowing that he'd be there killed me, and I had to go knowing otherwise that I'd never meet him).

When we posed fer the pic, his crazy blond hair got in my eyes, hehehe =) It poked them, and I brushed it away. It looks awesome! I love it! =) <3

Then, like the creepy stalkers that we are, Kim took these pix of Trey watching the Maine =)

We made our way back into the crowd, as Moose and Aaron LB were packing up. These are the only two shots we got, b/c, apparently, they didn't wanna be photographed. Hehehe =) Some girl called out Aaron's name, and he looked up, but when he saw her camera, he said "Nu-uh!", laughed, and ducked out of view. Hehehe =) Wish I'd asked when I'd see the new Aaron's Answers!

We watched the crowd disperse as we waited to watch Sing It Loud. I just got into them a lil bit ago, but they're a good band. Some stupid guys who were waiting fer Gallows to come on kept mocking and complaining about the Maine and Sing it Loud. They were saying stupid stuff like "All I see is prepubescent girls!" or laughing at the boys. Yuck. Ppl like that are like that disgust me =(

Sing It Loud set (not in order)

•·        Bite Your Lip

•·        No One can Touch Us

•·        Come Around

•·        Best Beating Heart

•·        Don't Save Me

These are just the songs that I remember, and these are some of the pix of their set.

It was an awesome set, and the boys were great, and the shirtless Nate Flynn got the crowd riled up. Pat was talking about having a hang over, and about their stop at Fresno completely sucking. He was saying that 'Frisco was making him so happy and that we were great! He also made a mini speech about what Warped is all about, and how some bands don't embrace it. He was talking about how metal heads made fun of pops, and pops made fun of punks fer their Mohawks. It was deep =) and got those dumb boys to shut up =)

After their set, we hit the tents. We went to the This Prov tent, and bought a white V-neck. Andy was behind the tent, and I asked him fer a pic. He said yeah, and this is it! OMFGZ! He had his shirt off =)

He was complaining about an itch he couldn't scratch on his back, and made his way back into the tent. Where his merch guy confirmed that it was a mosquito bite. Poor Andy! =(

Then we went to the Maine/This Century tent (IDK Pat was their A&R!) and bought their CD. I got this pic w/ Joel from This Century. He was so nice! He told me to step into the tent.

I wanted to get a Maine shirt, but they didn't carry any in my size =(

Then Kim and I made our way to the Sing It Loud tent, after I remembered Pat Brown saying that he'd be there after the show. And sure enough, the sweaty Pat was there. I asked fer a pic, and here are the 2 tries.

The back of his shirt was wet with sweat & I loved the funny glasses. Hehehe =) This is Kim's pic with him.

I guess we were lucky b/c right after he took pix w/ us, he left. We bought a black SIL shirt and got a free poster! =)

We went to the bathroom with my mom, whom joined us after the Sing It Loud show. I saw Gavin, but he was going into the bathroom when we came out. We went to the amphitheater and ate lunch. When I finished, I needed to use the bathroom (since I hadn't used it before).

As I was coming back, I saw Chris Miller, the sound tech fer the Maine, and freaked (closet freak out!). He was climbing up the stairs of the amphitheater, having exited out the backstage door of the amphitheater.

"Hey, Chris!" I said. "Can I take a picture with ye?"

"Sure," he replied. I lead him back down a few rows to where Kim sat so she could take the pic. In turn, I took a pic of her w/ him. He looked specially hot that day. I loved his beanie and his hair!

After we finished up, we got in line to see Hit The Lights, who were playing the right Smart Punk stage side in a few, while Black Tide were playing the last few minutes of their set on the left side, on the Hurley.com stage.

I walked down and say Eric 'Halvo' Halvorsen from ARTTM watching them! OMG! =) But I couldn't signal him to come out so that we could talk and take a pic (fer someone who doesn't know I LOVE HALVO! I met him @ the AP tour, but Id love to meet him again! =( ) I prayed that he'd come out, but he didn't. I was pretty upset. =P

Hit the Lights setlist:

•·        Stay Out

•·        Breathe In

•·        Save Your Breath

•·        Body Bag

•·        Cry Your Eyes Out

•·        Count It!

•·        Drop the Girl

•·        Back Breaker

They were really good (again, I saw them @ the AP tour!) and Kim and I were right in the front of Dave, the guitarist. He's so cute, in a teddy bear kinda way. Nick touched my arm! =) Kim also touched his lower arm, which she said was really sweaty! Hehehe =)

LURKER ALERT! We caught Austin from FTSK watching HTL play by the sidelines, with that permanent PO'd expression on his face! Hehehe =)

After their set, we hit the Maine tent again, hoping to catch the boys. But, unfortunately, we weren't destined to meet them =( instead, I got Ryan from This Century (looking awfully cute!) whom agreed to take a pic w/ me. I love his expression! Hehehe =) I love his nose, BTW!

We went to the main stage to catch We the Kings....

Posting the rest later! This blogs too long! Hehehe =)

Sick Boy Blogs From The Road Part XI

Hello everyone! Here is a quick update since my last blog entry.

Last time I sent a blog, we were about to play in Manchester! That show was insane and Pat rocked out so hard he punctured his chin with his guitar and had to get stitches. Crazy right? After Manchester we played in Birmingham. Birmingham was really cool. We explored the downtown shopping center and had lunch at a Pizza Hut. After Birmingham we played a festival in Leeds known as the "Slam Dunk Festival". The festival was insane and friends of ours like Cobra Starship, We The Kings, Hey Monday, Cash Cash, The Audition and You Me at Six performed. We got to hang out with all of our friends and perform for one of the best crowds we've had thus far. Before the doors were open, Pat and I walked the line of kids and handed out free stickers with our stage name and the time we were playing at on the back. There were roughly 5,000 people who attended the festival. Needless to say, we ran out of stickers very quickly. We played on the "Punktastic" stage which was in the basement of the college campus. There were five stages total. There was one Main Stage and the others differed in size. Before we played, we watched our friends in Cash Cash perform and Hey Monday followed them. After we played we got to watch We The Kings, Cobra Starship and You Me at Six. The Main Stage room became 200 degrees and the kids were insane! When the festival ended the Main Stage room became a dance club and everyone at the festival got to hang out with each other and all the kids who were over 18 got to stay as well. Most of the bands at the festival had a day off the next day so we all stayed up really late.

The next morning Pat, Nate, Kieren and myself walked around downtown looking for some food. Pat and Nate went to McDonald's while Kieren and I went to Subway. Alex Suarez (Cobra Bass) walked into Subway and joined us for lunch. We then later found a grocery store and stocked up on some food. We walked back to the bus and began watching movies. I'm a huge movie fanatic and I brought with me movies such as: "Little Monsters", "Drop Dead Fred", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Lethal Weapon 1,2,3 & 4", "National Lampoons Senior Trip/Loaded Weapon Double Feature", "Child's Play 1,2,3,4 & 5", "Back To The Future Trilogy" and "Pineapple Express". Plus many more! We had a fantastic movie festival last night. Thats all I have for now but stay tuned for more news on the Cobra Starship/Sing It Loud/Cash Cash/ Mimi Soya UK Tour!

CHEERS!

Sick Boy Blogs From The Road Part X

How has everyone been since the "Guys Guys Guys" tour? I'm currently sitting in Manchester back stage at the Academy. I'm listening to a band known as "Metric" on my macbook and thinking to myself, "I can't believe this." Meaning I can't believe that I'm living one of the biggest dreams I've had my whole life. It has been one of the best feelings to share with brothers of mine. I know everyone personally in Sing It Loud had wanted to tour the UK, but Kieren and myself had been trying to do this since we were 16 and 17 years old in our old band "Jamestown Story". So far, we've played in Nottingham and Glasgow. Both of those shows were crazy! Well we go on in about 10 minutes so I will leave you with this little note:

In some point of your life, you are going to run into someone who doesn't believe in you or believe in what you want to do. Nothing feels better than achieving your dreams and looking back with biggest smile you have ever expressed.

Sick Boy Blogs From The Road Part IX

Hey SIL fans! It has been a while since my last blog so I'm going to fill you in on the last week. I'm going to start with Bamboozle Right(NJ). We show up at Bamboozle at 8:00 am for load in. Kieren, Nate, Ben and myself grab posters to promote our stage and set time when we realize we have nothing to put the posters on (to walk around with). Kieren and I remembered using long wooden sticks last year at bamboozle to tape our promo posters on, so we decided to go on an adventure. Keep in mind this is at 9:00 am! We are walking around the Giants Stadium looking for anything to use for sticks when we run into a fenced off construction area. We then sneak into the area and begin grabbing every long wooden stick or pole in our sights when we see SECURITY! ! ! ! Kieren crawls out of the area first and begins running away towards the bus area while I'm trying to get away with some of the poles. Security comes to a screeching halt right on the back of my legs with the front bumper of their security SUV. They harass me for a little bit then throw me in the back of their squad car while telling me "Your done! We are taking you in and your friend will not get away. Both of you are arrested!" Meanwhile, Kieren gets in the back of our van, changes clothes and begins hiding under his sleeping bag in the back of the van. I'm sitting in the back of the squad car and begin talking my way out of the whole situation, well trying to. After a long somewhat aggressive argument with the security meat heads, I'm given a break due to not running and the fact that I had to play in 5 hours! All in all, it was a crazy bamboozle! We had our largest bamboozle crowd ever that day! The fans were amazing! We had a great time and hope all of you did to! We are on the last four days of the "Guys Guys Guys" tour. We have been out for 100 + consecutive days with The Morning Light and it will be the hardest thing parting ways with those dudes! They are like my brothers! We are playing at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI tonight then onward to Minneapolis! ! ! Hope everyone is having a great week!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Love always,

SB

Bamboozle Roadshow Takes a Beating

I'm sure by now most of you have heard about Chris V (We The King's merch guy), T fair (WTK's tour manager) and Ian (FTSK crew) being the victims of police brutality last night. Guys from We The Kings, Forever The Sickest Kids (though most of theirs were deleted), The Cab, and Mercy Mercedes (where were you Christofer Drew?) were all tweeting about what happened.  Blog posts galore have added more details, Youtube videos have been posted and Alternative Press have had news breaks. http://www.altpress.com/news/6642.htm

Philly natives Valencia who went to the show to visit their friends in the band and crew also gave accounts. Sing It Loud's Pat Brown had Twitter updates that showed his distaste for the incident.

I'm not here to tell you want happened. You a) already know or b) can easily find out more accurate details from a more reliable source from someone who isn't me.  I'm posting this because Alternative Press gave me a link to absolutepunk.net, where one of the members of Mercy Mercedes posted about what happened.

There is so much wrong going on in that thread that I barely know how to begin, but I'll try:

1) All this "fuck the police" stuff is ignorant.  It is not all policemen, and it is not even the whole Philadelphia police force.  Apparently the area around TLA (the venue where this occurred) is notorious for this kind of thing, also maybe not to this extreme.  The Maine reportedly had some struggles with cops at the AP tour.

2) There was a lot of hate on the bands in general, a lot of light-hearted joking about how FTSK and WTK's music sucks so they deserved it. No. First of all, the band members themselves were not directly involved in the altercation.  They were not the ones who got hurt.  Second of all, what a terrible attitude to have. I don't care who you are, not moving your van out of the way before you finish up with your job does not deserve that kind of consequence.

3) Similar to above, a lot of people just don't seem to think it's that big of a deal and that the guys should have listened to the police when they were told to move their vans.  But really, wouldn't finishing their job allow them to get out of their quicker, which is seemingly what the police really wanted? Someone on Absolute Punk said how the guys should have listened to the cops and that "they are not above the law, unfortunately, only the police are." Uh...except that they're not.  Don't think that. Know your rights. Police are not above the law, and neither are politicians for that matter.

4) I saw someone post "FTSK does not = Rodney King" That's true.  While what happened to Rodney King was definitely wrong, let's look at some facts, shall we?

  • The night of the Rodney King incident, he was driving with a BAC of approximately .19, which is well over twice the legal limit in California.
  • He was pursued for speeding, but didn't want to pull over because a DUI would violate his parole.
  • He was on parole for robbery.
  • When pulled over, King reached at himself in a way that made the officer think he was reaching for a gun.
  • When 4 officers were sent to arrest him, he physically resisted.
  • After repeatedly getting up after being,King charged at an officer.
  • The infamous beating occured.

Yeah, that totally sounds the same tasered as some skinny roadies trying to fix a fucked up situation.  And why doesn't the TLA make it so that the bands have permits to load up their stuff?

So remember folks, not all police officers are corrupt, don't let your music taste destroy your humanity, and fight to keep police brutality and other unnecessary violence from occurring.
