This is my review of Brand New Eyes by song.

1. Careful

Careful is a brilliant intro to the whole album.  It’s surprisingly different, if you were expecting a redo of “Riot!” but I wasn’t.  Great sound coming from each instrument makes you high energized to where you just want to head bang the day away and sing into your hairbrush.  It clearly shows how much the band has changed, ever on the first song.  It’s one of my favorite songs on the record.  The way Hayley pleads “more” with her excellent range and well played vibrato, is sure to keep you wanting more of her voice.  The other sound that stands out is the amazing drumming coming from Zac Farro.  He sounds like he’s putting just as much emotion into the song as Hayley, which makes for a brilliant jamming song.

2. Ignorance

The first single, “Ignorance”, comes off as a following to “Decode” and “Misery Business”, showing the very untamed anger of the band.  This was possibly the most controversial song on the record, but only to the guys in the band.  This song, although a similar sound, is completely different from “Misery Business”.  It’s deeper, and simpler, making you wonder how the rest of the record could be even more dynamic.

3. Playing God

This song is a very surprising lull after the high energy twin songs that opened the record.  It shows even more change in their music that you hear right away.  This song makes you think about blaming, being unfair, or even what you believe in.  The most surprising sound coming from this song is the beautiful duet close to the end between Josh and Hayley.  A very sound changing song for this band.  I love every aspect of this number,

4. Brick By Boring Brick

Yet again, I am amazed at each musician in the band.  The pairing of each instrument in this song is brilliant.  This song makes you want to dance, sing along, and maybe even cry.  It’s a very deep and personal sounding song that may even give you hope after a tough break up.  This song is sure to get stuck in your head on a regular basis.  And, the fun coming from the vocals makes you smile and wonder why you ever didn’t like this band.

5.Turn It Off

There are so many aspects to this song, I don’t know how I will name them all.  The start of the song is calming and relaxing, making you examine the lyrics in your mind.  It really shows the control of Hayley’s voice, and also how the guys match that sound.  Then, it builds up in the chorus and makes you have hope, even when you’ve felt like you’ve hit the bottom.  This song is also different form every song I’ve ever heard from Paramore.

6. The Only Exception

This song makes you think you’re at a beach in Hawaii with your boyfriend/crush.  But, yet it shows a love deeper than that.  This honest ballad makes you wonder why you’re alone if you are.  It shows the very traditional southern quality coming straight from the Tennessee band.  But still, it is much better than country.  And again, Hayley’s range shows purely throughout the song.  This song can give you all the hope to be with someone.  It is clearly, one of my favorites on the record.

7.Feeling Sorry

If you’re preparing to give up on someone, this song is for you!  Once again, a song completely different song from any others.  It’s an awesome rock out song if you’re angst is building up from some jerk.  If you want to convince someone to move forward, this song is definitely for that.  It applies to so many girls, it’s amazing.  Every instrument on this song, just rocks.  This song rocks!

8. Looking Up

This song is a perfect follow up to the last, concluding a strife.  Another excellent head banging rock song it is.  It may make you realize your wrong about a lot of things.  This song reminds me of the arena rocker “Born for this” off of Riot!.  It’s an amazing and breath taking song.  And, just when you think it’s over, BAM!  It starts again with more high energy drums, bass, guitar, and even vocals.

9. Where The Lines Overlap

I love this song!  It’s a brilliant anthem for you and your friends when you’re hanging out in summer.  Josh and Hayley’s voices blend together perfectly, showing the friendship they have.  The breaks in the high energy instruments show more of Hayley’s beautiful and very teenage like sweet voice, but it also shows her maturity.  Then, the piano solo at the end, closes the song and makes you wanting more.

10. Misguided Ghosts

This song surprised me a lot.  I could clearly tell the new guitarist, Taylor York, had a huge influence on the new Paramore.  He likes indie music and acoustics, and this song clearly shows that.  It makes you think of driving down a country road, thinking of people you’ve lost.  It reminds me of Norah Jones, but it’s better.  I really enjoyed this song, because it’s so calming and tells you so much about Hayley’s past.

12. All I Wanted

This is my favorite song Paramore has ever written, or just my favorite song ever.  The beginning is melodic and simple, but then you get an amazing wake up call to awesome guitars, and then the calmness comes back and builds.  But, it builds into an insane voice blaring into your ears, and taking your breath away.  Hayley finally shows the VERY high end of her range, but it gets higher.  The music comes to a halt, and her voice seems to be breaking glass.  Her voice is as dynamic as the music behind her.  It blows me away every time I hear this song.  The fact that she’s begging for someone during the whole song and takes all this emotion and makes it audible, fuels her breathtaking voice and takes it higher than ever.  Josh’s lead riff and Zac’s drumming stands out behind her, making the emotion heighten to a whole new level.  Best song of the year.

Ignorance Acoustic

This is just about as good as the regular version, but I miss the drums.  Paramore have an amazing reputation for performing acoustic, and this clearly shows their talent.  It has very good quality to the guitars and her voice and a simple tambourine behind it.  Love it.

Where The Lines Overlap Acoustic

This is even better, because Josh and Hayley’s voices stand out even more in a smile creating duet.  A simple xylophone in the background compliments the child like happiness that comes out in this song.  Hayley’s voice is also nice and clear in it.

Turn It Off Acoustic

This version takes her haunting voice to a new level.  I love the unsimple sounds that come present in this version.  And the very coffee shop guitar riff comes out more, making it a very relaxing thinking song.  I like this version better.

Brand New Eyes Conclusion

This album has beaten out “Riot!” and taken their sound, writing, and reputation to a new level.  I suggest everyone listens to it.  It will change your life in one way or another.
