924 Gilman Street held it's first show on New Years Eve, December 31, 1986, with Christ On Parade, A.M.Q.A (Apple Maggot Quarantine Area), Silkworms, Soup & Impulse Manslaughter
Some of the most influential bands that have played at Gilman include: AFI, Bad Religion, Blatz, Crimpshrine, Dead Kennedys, Filth, Green Day, Isocracy, Jawbreaker, Link 80, The Mr. T Experience, Neurosis, The Offspring, Operation Ivy, The Ramones, Rancid, Samiam, Screeching Weasel, Screw 32, Sweet Baby, Tiger Army, and Tilt.
Operation Ivy (Jesse Michaels, Tim "Lint" Armstrong, Matt Freeman, Dave Mello, Pat Mello) formed in May of 1987, playing their first show in Dave Mello's garage on May 16th. The following night was what would become the first of many performances at The Gilman Street Project...
