happy naw-ruz!

happy naw-ruz!

Welcome to a new day. "Naw-ruz" (also 'norouz' or 'nowrouz' depending on who you ask) is a persian name meaning "new day". It designates the 21st of March, the spring equinox, and the beginning of the new year for Baha'is, along with Zoroastrians and generally Iranians of every ilk. It implies phat parties with food, friends, music, dancing and celebrating a time of rebirth and a physical and spiritual springtime.

The two friends seen here took advantage of this occasion to announce their own springtime -- Natalia and Aram, two good friends of mine, are engaged to be married. Many congratulations and best wishes to these two crazy hooligans -- err, I mean lovely souls -- in their journey together along the pathway of God's love.

This picture was taken at the Baha'i Naw-ruz/New year party at the Hellenic Community centre, in Ottawa.
