Two men stabbed during 'The Signal'

During a showing of the paranoid horror film, The Signal, two attendees were stabbed in the arm by an unknown third man. Even weirder, as soon as the film resumed playing, the first scene contained a man getting stabbed. Did a movie inspire someone to violence?

The Signal is reigniting the debate over whether graphic movies inspire real-live violence. During a recent showing of the film, two attendees were stabbed by an as-yet unidentified third man, according to multiple reports. The Signal, helmed by three separate directors (Dan Bush, David Bruckner, and Jacob Gentry) was released this past Friday. (You can check out my review of the film right here.) Two days later, on Sunday, at a theater in Fullerton, California, a man stabbed two other moviegoers during a screening of the film.
  • The unknown man supposedly started stabbing at the theater seat and then began stabbing the victim. As he fled, he stabbed another victim sitting near the exit. Both men were stabbed in the arm and were taken to separate hospitals. Neither men knew the suspect, who escaped without arrest. The film was paused while police conducted their investigation. When it was resumed, the first scene was a stabbing.
Wait, who stuck around to see the rest of the film? To me, that would be a signal to get out of the theater. (Excuse the bad pun.)

So this brings up an interesting question.  The Signal deals with a message sent through media players (televisions, radios, telephones, etc.) that warps their perception, causing them to commit violent acts on those around them. Do you think that the perpetrator was "inspired" by the events onscreen?

not likely. there are just some sick minded people out there. wow its like scream.
Wow. Enh...these things happen. I wouldn't blame the movie though.
Holy fuck!!

But thats nothing compared to what happens in London.

You get teenagers, adults, kids even getting shot, stabbed, beaten to death nearly every week. There was over 100 teenage deaths last year.
It's horrible but that goes to show how many sick, demented people out there. But people have to be careful in this world. Because horrid shit like that can happen any day, any time, any place.
Just keep careful.

^^ I agree. The person was likely inspired by the film, seeing the similarities, but the person was definitely warped to begin with if he/she thought up such a scheme and acted on it.

I don't know if I'd blame the film, but a person who is sick might be "inspired" like you say ... , who knows what to think.
