Hailing from the mean streets of East St. Louis, it was difficult for Nelly to discover his rap identity at first. He wasn't from the East or West coast or the Dirty South, either. So, Nelly decided to combine the popular elements of each region to form an urban-country singalong sound. The plan worked and Nelly consistently finds his name at the top of the charts. He even made a hit song about it called #1.
