I Realize That Every Plan Is A Tiny Prayer To Father Time

Well, hello Buzznet-ers.

There's been something on my mind lately (well and idea) and I wanted to share it with you guys, so you could give me your oppinion.   Mostly cause this is where I'd first post it.

Let me start off by sayin that I'm no photorapher.  I enjoy taking pictures and know what a good one looks like.  Obviously, I've become more and more interested in it and I'm hoping to get into this summer school of liberal arts this summer for photography, but I'm self taught to the moment.  Aka, my knowledge of photography isn't much.

Now, to the idea.

I've been wanting to make a stop motion for a while and I was starting to make one, but it was hand drawn and my scanner made it look bad.  So I want to try and make a stop motion of, well, actual photos.  Sort of a stop motion music video.

The song would be Kings And Queens (30 Seconds To Mars) or Weightless (Nada Surf).  Both of them already have music videos, but I do love both songs' lyrics and message.  Though thy sound nothing alike, they do have something in common lyrically.  Pretty much just letting go.  (That is what I got from the song; my interpretation.  You are at liberty to think differently.)  One (Weightless) says to scream and such, the other (Kings And Queens) says everything you have been through.  I'm leaning more onto Kings And Queens, but it's good to have your options.

Anyway, it would pretty much be following a girl (or more, depending on who helps me) though these things.  It'd be divided to two or three sceneries.  The fair; the beach; the night time city.

Eh, that's all I got till now.

What do you think?  Any idea is welcomed.

Listen/watch the videos

Look alive, you see these bone...

The craziest thing happen when I got off the bus today.

As the song See These Bones by Nada Surf started playing on my ipod, I noticed out of the corner of my eye a dogwood tree in my neighbor's yard that I have past everyday of my life for the past seventeen years. Why I had noticed it today, and not the any day before is beyond me; maybe it was the inviting weather, the kind that makes you appreciate being outside more. Or maybe, those chilling lyrics, the ones that make you want to understand everything around you.
It had not occurred to me until that very moment that the tree has been practically devoured by almost a dozen different invasive plants and vines. The delicate branches, which once held high with flowers that in my childhood I had placed in my hair, now sagged with the weight of time and the over growth.
When had this happen? It is clear that the vines were well experience having woven themselves deeply into the base of the dogwood.
Have I truly been this oblivious? This is something that I'm now convinced I should have noticed months ago.

It almost scares me how something could happen right under my nose without me noticing in the slightest bit. It reminded me of a time when I was young, my mom and I were driving to see our cousins in CT. It was fall and the leaves had never looked more beautiful. For over an hour I marveled at the colors and the way the leaves made the hills into rippling rainbows. Finally I asked my mom if she had ever seen a more beautiful fall. "I didn't even noticed the leaves had changed-- I used to notice things like that when I was your age, but now I'm just too busy." At the time this whole idea of not noticing the wonderful changes in nature going on around me seemed practically impossible. But now I think I understand. And I find it frightening.

Seeing that older withered tree reminded me that I need to stop and look around more. I need to appreciate what is around me and  the fact that nothing will ever be that same. Everyday is one of a kind, every breeze makes the world a little different, every choice makes you who you are.

And now when ever I hear See These Bones (or any truly well written, beautiful song in fact) I stop whatever I'm doing, take a breath, soak in the music and look around. Everything is a miracle, everything is a gift, everything is more then you think.

Thanks for reading this. Sorry if it bored you :-/

Love you,
Lauren

SXSW '08: Rogue Wave, Shout Out Louds, Grand Ole Party and more

SXSW began for me Thursday at the same unlikely place it ended Wednesday, an aqua-painted nightclub with dance cages (converted into Dell Blogging Cages … gotta love corporate sponsorship) called (of course) 'Volume'. More music action...
