Michael Jackson made a song called "Beat It" in 1983. Weird Al Yankovic made a parody of "Beat It" called "Eat It" in 1984. Fall Out Boy made a cover of "Beat It" in 2008. Out of these three, one of them is the best. In your opinion, at least.
*Note*: The description of the third answer does not reflect my personal opinion and only the Fall Out Boy version of Beat It is the official video, because the embed feature was disabled for the other off. videos.
I've been thinking about the news that Fall Out Boy is making a video for their "Beat It" cover and wondering just how they're going pull it off. Making videos for covers is tricky enough, but taking on the King of Pop is another thing entirely. Alien Ant Farm just flat out avoided making a video on the same scope and scale of the original "Smooth Criminal," opting instead for a relatively low budget party video. Though the dancing kid is awesome.
So, is Patrick going to don the red leather jacket and dance battle the pool hall punks? Let's not forget that Fall Out Boy has already borrowed heavily from MJ's video stable. The "16 Candles" video alone is an amalgam of Jackson's video hits: A movie-like story from "Smooth Criminal" and "Thriller;" horror themes from "Thriller;" choreography reminiscent of "Beat It" and "Bad."
I think if Fall Out Boy tries a serious take on "Beat It," the video might get laughed off the air. But what if they're laughing too? Parodies still pay homage to the original without taking themselves too seriously. Also, they're way more fun to watch.
So what should Fall Out Boy do for their video of "Beat It?"
