The sunshades were designed by Morris Lapidus [the architect of the Fountainbleu Hotel and other MiMo (Miami Modern) landmarks] when Lincoln Road--the Fifth Avenue of the South--was made into a pedestrian-only mall in the early 1960's.

This is where I had lunch-- The Colony Restaurant (former Colony Theater). One one point there were 8 theaters on the 8 block stretch.
