Some Bands I Would Love To See Breakthrough After Playing CMJ 2009

You don't have to be at CMJ to be in the know about the upcoming buzzworthy bands. Sure CMJ is a pretty epic display of developing to antique artists showcasing themselves to the music industry and like-type folks in New York City for about 5 straight days of non-stop back-to-back shows. It is undeniably a really fun time, a drunken time, a time for networking over a cheers and a time to collect as many business cards as you can to impress your co-workers.

Anyway, I am sad to say that this year I am not at CMJ, but that certainly did not stop my mailbox from overflowing the last few weeks with the need-to-knows about CMJ parties, first time shows and baby bands about to burst.

So here it goes, in no particular order, a list that is not only bands I wish I was seeing live this week at CMJ, but bands that I think you (whoever you are) outta check out. Just google these bands, a myspace page or a hypem free mp3 is bound to show up. Bands ...

Losing It Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Blank Slate

*Chris's POV*

When I got home that afternoon, I walked in the front door. "Hey Mom," I called.

"Oh, hey honey." My mom called from the kitchen.

I dumped my book bag on the steps to the second floor and walked into the kitchen.

"How was your day?" she asked, wiping off the counter.

"Good." I said, washing my hands, taking an apple and sitting down with it.

"Make any friends?"

"Yeah, a couple" I thought of Brittany and all her friends that had welcomed me into their group. I smiled.

"That's great." My mom looked over at me "You seem happy. What is it?"

"So it's a crime to be happy? I had a good day that's all."

"I'm glad you're happy. Do you have homework?"

"Some."

"Then you better get it done. You want to start out fresh, okay?"

"Sure." I started walking towards the steps, but I thought of something and called into the kitchen, "I think I might try out for the tennis team. Is that alright?"

My mom looked surprised. "You haven't played in a long time."

"I know, but, now I have friends on a team."

"I'm not stopping you, If that's what you want, go ahead." she smiled

"Sweet, thanks. And I'm gonna hang out with some friends later on...is that alright?" I asked.

"Sure, Christofer. As long as you do your homework and don't get into trouble." she gave me a knowing look.

"I won't, I promise." I walked upstairs to do my homework. My cell phone vibrated in my pocket:

New Txt Msg:

BrittanyIsSoMuchCoolerThanYouWishYouCouldBe:

Hey darlin'! Are we still gonna hang out 2nite?

I laughed and texted back:

Fur Shur!

He response came a moment later

BrittanyIsSoMuchCoolerThanYouWishYouCouldBe:

See you then, sweetie!

I smiled to myself and got back to my homework.

Short, I know. But I will be hopefully double posting tonight- OMG! lol. I just wanted to make sure I was posting something for you guys. If not, then definitely a chap later tomorrow. This week has been busy.

I changed the font b/c I just didn't like it Arial...haha

Something to point out about this story is that I've decided this is the piont in Christofer's life where he was pretty unhappy until now, since he's meeting all these people who accept him and he starts to become himself again... :)

I've been listening to Kid Cudi's amazing-tastic new song with Ratatat and MGMT...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyoJW12zpDY&feature=related

Listen to it, I swear. It's great and I usually hate rap. The lyrics are great and the sound of it is just...really cool and twisted sounding... I don't know how to describe it. Just listen to it and drop me a note or send me a message or whatever telling me what you think about the song...and the chapter of course.

Comment, Buzz, Exc...

You know you love me,

 Gossip Girl

Just kidding! :)

Current Obsessions 6 and Point System!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the feedback on the clothing line. Each day this week, I'll try and post a picture of something from the line.

It seems like the majority of you want to participate in the point system. Points sound boring, so I'm just going to call them cookies because well everyone loves cookies. Whenever I post a journal, picture, video, poll, etc, the first 3 people who comment/buzz it, will get a cookie. And you can't just say "FIRST! Buzz! etc" Actually say what you feel about whatever I post- whether you like it or not. When you get to 20 cookies (Is that good? Too high? Too low? Just perfect?), you'll get a free shirt. Would you want it to be a suprise or would you rather pick the shirt you want?

Anyway, I hope you liked The Audition, The Morning Light, Kate Voegele, The Lives of Famous Men, and Tyler Brown Williams. Here are the rest of my obsessions for September. :D

1. Steve Moakler

Pittsburgh native,
Steve Moakler, has released 2 EPs. The Weight of Words (2007) for $4.95 and Like I Mean It (2008) for $2.97. In March, Moakler released his first full length, "All The Faint Lights". My favorite songs are "So Soon", "Run", "All The Faint Lights", and "Hesistate". Every single song from the EP and full length are worth buying. Listen to his music and fall in love with his soft voice and sweet melodies. Each song has catch lyrics that tell a story about where he's been and where he's going. He will be the next John Mayer. I'm dead serious when I say that too.

2. MGMT

Formerly known as The Management, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden had to shorten it to MGMT because another artist was using the name The Management.
MGMT has been working on their new album, Congratulations, which should be released in early 2010. Goldwasser and VanWyngarden recently collaborated with rapper, Kid Cudi, in the song Pursuit of Happiness from Man on the Moon: The End of Day. Listening to each song of Oracular Spectacular makes me relaxed. Check out Electric Feel, Kids, The Youth, The Handshake, or Weekend Wars. In October, MGMT will be playing at the Treasure Island Music Festival with with Brazilian Girls, The Streets, Passion Pit, Girl Talk (another Pittsburgh native. wooo!), and many more.

3. The Goodnight Anthem

Pop/rock band from Philadelphia,
The Goodnight Anthem, has had their songs played on MTV shows like Next and Parental Control. Last Summer, they released Nights to Know You EP, which you can buy $3.99. Each week, The Goodnight Anthem will be covering a song. So far, they've covered Party In The USA, I'll Be, and Waking up In Vegas. So if you have a myspace, head on over to theirs and tell them what you think they should cover. Before TGA releases their new CD, they we will be putting out a B-side EP with songs that they wrote after recording and songs that couldn't make it on the new CD.  Each EP will be personally signed and have your name on the front. Keep checking their Myspace and Twitter for more details.

4. Sing It Loud

Signed to Epitaph Records (New Found Glory, Bring Me The Horirzon, You Me At Six, The Higher, Set Your Goals),
Sing It Loud, a pop-rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota has toured with This Providence, The Morning Light, Cobra Starship, Cash Cash, Forever The Sickest Kids, and many more.Their full length, Come Around, (2008) features Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack in "We're Not Afraid" and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low in "No One Can Touch Us". I love every SIL song. I guarantee that if you haven't heard of them until now, if you look up any song by them, you'll have it on repeat for a while. I highly suggest you watch their Meet The Band videos. They're HILARIOUS. This fall/winter they will be touring with Forever The Sickest Kids, The Rocket Summer, My Favorite Highway, and other bands on select dates. I have met these guys and they are seriously the funniest, sweetest, craziest guys I have ever met. So if they are coming to your city, buy your tickets NOW. It's going to sell out fast.

5. Between The Trees

"One tree represents where time and existence begins. The other is the end of everything. Between them is the time we're given on Earth. What matters is what we do with that time." -Ryan Kirkland

Now, it doesn't get any simpler than that, does it? In 2006, they released their first debut album, The Story and the Song. Check out "The Way She Feels", "White Lines and Red Lights", and "Words". A year later, they were signed to The Universal motwon/Universal Republic. There were some problems and BTT decided their next album would be self-released. Listen to "We Can Try", "Spain", " Miss You", "Story of a Boy", and "Changed By You".

I hope you like the bands. The first 3 to comment/buzz this gets a cookie. GO! (:

peacee,

<3Jenny

5 songs that made my weekend more awesomer

been listening to a lot of music this weekend. these are the 5 most epic, awsome, beautiful & otherwise favorites that i've listened to.

1. radiohead (big surprise) - nude. okay so it's not exactly news that i love radiohead, and i've heard this song a bunch of times before, but something about hearing it this weekend just struck me. i was in the middle of working and had to stop and listen to it. it reminds me a little of "scatterbrain" from hail to the thief. really moving and melodic.

 i

2. arcade fire - laika. i'm not sure exactly how i managed to go for so long without listening to this band, but i'm sooo glad i did. my favorite part is "come on alex! you can do it! come on alex! there's nothin' to it! if you want somethin', don't ask for nothin'! if you want nothin', don't ask for somethin'!" and the guitar riffs kick ass.

3. arcade fire - crown of love. one of the most incredible songs i've heard in a long time, and i hear a lot of incredible songs. i love how it starts off quiet and and then just builds and builds and builds until it's like one big explosion of awesomeness.

4. mgmt - the youth. total songgasm. 'nuff said.

5. mgmt - of moons, birds and monsters. amazing. the last couple of minutes is just pure bliss.

if you haven't heard these songs/bands, check them out. your life will improve. sersiously. like, you'll have super powars and everyone will like you forever. and you'll sparkle in the sunlight. hit me up in the comments with some songs you think i should hear and i'll sheck them out.

this is what the world is for, making electricity...

...i'm addicted to MGMT! amazing music, amazing lyrics, amazing band members, amazing vibe, amazing dreams... AMAZING!

craving:chinese food and waffles

wearing:purple tie dye shirt

listening to:filipino TV and electric feel by MGMT

thinking about:a friend that should have called by now

wishing that:she was more confident and adventurous

dreams that: she can one day be a big star in the philippines (ha!) and have a handful of children.

i haven't written for AGEESSSS. been super busy busy busy! firstly school was like climbing the highest mountain then swimming the largest ocean in the world! with no rest -.- had my exams... lets just say i didn't really concentrate when i studied (yes mum i have finally admitted it) but i still got good grades :D but i wish i'd done more!

2A*s and 5As, 3 more results to come... tomorrow DUN DUN DUN. fingers crossed they were amazing too!

THEN i went on holiday to philippines and saw all the family and the beach and the amazing and and and our new house :O a month there, 5 days back here then 4 days in dubai. i officially love dubai and think its the middle east's own version of NYC or London! The shopping, the night life, the morning life(i don't think theres such thing), the buildings just everything was great :D 4 days was enough though, any longer and we wouldn't have been able to do anything else other than run my dad's bank account dry.

i got 3 pairs of shoes :O that's a miracle to me!! and an oversized cardi and shorts. doesn't sound like a lot now... but it is to me.

i've been sitting at home, wasting my days away doing nothing really.. most friends aren't here yet or can't go out because of ramadan. :( school's in 6 days too :'( i'm going to hate the work and pressure and exams for the next 2 years but everyone else survived it so i guess i can. saw the old friend that left to england the other day, she's very very tough now and i still can't believe so much drama surrounds her. it's all going to build up and blow up in her face. maybe karma aims to hate her or maybe she brings it on herself, i don't know. i just know that when it does blow up...i'm not the type of friend/person that could handle it or take care of her. sorry. hmm hmm what else has happened in my very boring life....

I FELL IN LOVE WITH ANDREW VANWYNGARDEN! <33.

oh and two best friends who were liek my brothers left for the US. unexpectedly.CURSE YOU WONDER LIFE IN US! i need to visit it and take a tour to see what's so great...

in other news i have been dreaming about a trip to coachella in the future/past, i can't tell with this dream.

the end of my sad story!

All Points West 2009 Flooded Jersey City With Mud and Music

Mud, mud, more mud, and music. That pretty much sums up the All Points West festival for 2009. Even before it started to rain on Friday, the ground was already a bit soggy, so once it started to pour, it was a 5 year old’s dream playground of slushy, gooey, mud.  Kind of like Woodstock all over again, right? Details on the festival ...
