This cartoon is all over the hood by now

This appeared in last Sunday's Vancouver Province, which in itself is
a sign that DTES housing activists are having a very good year. Well,
that and the election of a whole new city council on an end
homelessness platform.

Carnegie Centre! That's my political home of the past 7 years! Learned
a lot from those crazy folks.

Check out this local media about DTES slumlords.

Makes a difference from the pretty stuff. There are so many troubles in this world.

I"ve been in Vancouver several times and never thought of it as a place with bad problems. That's from more or less a "touristy" point of view

That's a great cartoon - I hope the new council live up to expectations on dealing with the problem.

hopefully it's not an "ed koch" solution to homelessness.

yeah, there is this one glaring social problem that has been brewing for the past 20 years. finally it's gotten to the point where no-one can ignore it or brush it off with jokes ... I guess the city does ok at hiding it from tourists (except for the poor souls who get lost walking between Gastown and Chinatown).

here's hoping! but you never know - lefty idealists can become problematic when they realize things aren't working out the way they envisioned!

that's not the new mayor's plan ... but the cops and the other levels of government are a whole different story.

yeah I guess. in Vancouver it's the contrast between wealth and beauty, while 6 or 8 square blocks languish in total anarchy, that makes DTES issues such a big deal. oh, and the 2010 winter olympics.
