Blink 182 Holds a Moment of Silence for DJ AM

After the sudden loss of their friend DJ AM on Friday night, rockers Blink 182 still took to the stage on Saturday in Hartford, CT, for a show on their whirlwind reunion tour.  But during the show, the loss was felt.

"He was an innovator and he was a genius, and he loved music more than anyone else on this planet and above all he was an amazing friend," Mark Hoppus tearfully announced on stage.  He also called for a moment of silence for AM, born Adam Goldstein, who was found dead in his New York City apartment.  The band then began performing the song "Down."

Tidal waves they rip right through me
Tears from eyes worn cold and sad
Pick me up now, I need you so bad.

Down down down down
Down down down down
Down down down down
Down down down down
It gets me so

Travis Barker, who survived the horrific plane crash last year along with AM, skipped his usual levitating drum solo near the end of the show and was reportedly generally off of his game all night.  Understandably so.  However, earlier in the day he paid tribute to his friend on his Twitter:

"Don't know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM. My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i'll never forget all the good times we had. ...

"I'll never forget everything we've been thru and every time i play the drums i'll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being. ...

"Rest In Peace my brother, this really f---s me up."

He has since been twittering pictures and videos in rememberance of AM and has changed his user icon to an "RIP DJ AM" design.

That video is so sad. It really bugs me how people couldn't be quiet for the moment of silence.

I wonder if those people were even able to hear him when he told them about the moment of silence. Whoever was talking on the mic was near tears when he said that and it made me all teary.
RIP DJ AM. You will be missed.

susiev: 09/02/2009 8:42 AM
yea. and i thought it was super rude too that those people weren't silent. like its so hard to be quiet for like 30 seconds.

I find it irritating, that they've asked for what, 20 seconds of silence for their dead friend, and some people find it necessary to heckle?
have some respect.
