4) La Vie En Rose
I'm going to have to agree with the tag line at the top of this promo poster. Watching Marion Cotillard portray Edith Piaf is eerie, because it's so believable. You watch her sing and your heart stops.
But beyond Cotillard's undeniably shocking performance is the structure of this movie. I don't think many people are addressing, but I love the fact that this biopic isn't chronological. It's close to a stream-of-conscious style, especially towards the end, but it so closely resembles human thought. Events seem to happen as someone remembers them, instead of in the order they actually happened.
However, I must agree that the real strong point is, again, the acting. This is a complete story, from beginning to end, about a woman who so deeply affected the people of France. It's beautiful and heartbreaking, introducing me to a character in history that I knew nothing about. It's nice to have your mind expanded by a movie. It's also nice to be touched emotionally by what you see on the screen and this film did just that.

This movie is actually fairly well known, but it's not marketed towards kids, so that's probably why this movie (and many others) are unknown to you.
i've heard of Edith before. and when i saw that they had made a movie about her. i had to watch it.
they call her 'The Soul Of France' her voice was so strong. she struggled a lot. and became one of France's most famous singers. great pick. Marion did an astounding job. i agree with you about: "this biopic isn't chronological.
