Manic Street Preachers - "Kevin Carter"

You know how to tell I had a long or rough night at work? I come home and rush to the computer to post a Manic Street Preachers video. We all need something looking up in our lives. Or at least, something that makes us think.

Kevin Carter was a photographer who snapped a plethora of pictures but the one that everyone remembers is that of a starving African on his knees in the dirt with a vulture at his side. The picture is world famous and made Carter a fortune. In the end it was the source of both world fame and motivation for suicide. Unable to cope with having profited from a famine Kevin Carter killed himself.

It really makes a photographer think, doesn't it? We all want that mind burning photograph but what will it cost us in the end?

Tutututu-tututu... (yeah this is supposed to be the sound of a trumpet...)
Anyway, Kevin Carter is a great song, even though I couldn't understand a word of what James was singing, at first. It makes you think about how to cope with the cruelty, the ugliness of the world...
And the parallel with Richey is so obvious, even more in the video.
Aww, I love that vid, it's so beautiful, so full of double meanings...

You got me thinking with what you said there. This video is so great, it's one of my favorites from the post-Richey era. I love this song, such a sad story behind it, I find it hard to listen to it sometimes. Even though yeah like Chloe said I didn't get what James was talking about the first time XD but that's ok, after watching Nevermind the Buzzcocks where they made up some hilarious misheard lyrics I'm glad to know I'm not alone haha.

When I read what this song was about a while back on Manics.nl, I cried for like 10 minutes straight! :,(

That is a really good point you make, and very sad too! It's too bad he couldn't find a way past it! Great song!!!
