Behind Closed Doors: Dave Elkins Hates Loud Chewers

Dave Elkins the lead singer of Mae has been approved by Buzznet in the hygiene department, after he informed us of his morning bathroom routine and his bedroom decorations. We feel that Dave wasn't too creative in the sandwich making game, but we do find his night time pajamas pretty adorable.

Buzznet: Do you have a morning bathroom routine? If so what does it entail from when you get out of bed until you are dressed for the day?

Dave: Some people don't shower everyday.  Zach, our guitarist doesn't wash his hair every single day.  I absolutely need to do both before I start my day.

Buzznet: Who was your first kiss?

Dave: My first kiss was in 6th grade, as cliche as it sounds, behind the elementary school (it was not during school however, i was in middle school then!) and not naming any names!

Buzznet: What do you have hanging on your walls in your bedroom? Posters? Artwork?

Dave: I actually have only two pieces of art and a picture of my girlfriend and me dancing at a wedding we went to this past summer.  my old bedroom had a bunch of posters- Mae touring posters, a signed Jimmy Eat World poster from the Clarity Tour, a signed Sunny Day Real Estate poster from The Rising Tide Tour, along with several others.

Buzznet: Do you have any fetishes? Any pet-peeves?

Dave: I love college sports and I hate it when people talk too quietly or chew loud.

Buzznet: What is the first quality you look for in the opposite sex?

Dave: Intelligence.

Buzznet: What do you wear to sleep at night?

Dave: Flannel pajamas my grandmother gave me for Christmas.

Buzznet: Do you have a nickname?

Dave: Delk = Dave + Elkins. Our old manager gave me the nickname.

Buzznet: What was your first job? What was your worst job?

Dave: For my very first job was a soccer referee.  I officiated games for 5 year old all the way up to adults.  I was 13 at the time.  My worst job, by far was working at a bike rental stand.  The job also came right after my first "hired gun" gig played bass, keys, and guitar for Kenna.  I worked there for less than a week and walked out at the beginning of my shift.  Coincidentally, that was also my last job since Mae  started paying the bills.

Buzznet: If you could be in the Summer Olympics which sport would you compete in? Any why?

Dave: The mile run, or the 1600.  I was captain of the track team in school and loved it.  I still love running today.

Buzznet: What song do you know every word to, but are totally embarrassed that you know so well?

Dave: I know every word to Snoop Doggy Dogg's 'Doggystyle'  and I am proud of that fact, not in the least bit embarrassed!

Buzznet: What text message or voice mail do you regret sending to someone so much that you will never forget doing it?

Dave: The words of Creed Bratton from The Office, "what is a text?!"

Buzznet: Which era do you most wish you lived in and why?

Dave: I wish I was born in the late 40's so I could have experienced the 50's as a child and the 60's and 70's as an adult.  Everything was new then:  music, art, technology.  I love studying wars and Vietnam particularly.  My favorite band will always, always be The Beatles so I'd be able to live through every The Beatles single, record, press, and movie release which would be perfect for me.  The first man on the moon, color TV, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys, Motown and Elvis Presley... how could it get better than this?!

Buzznet: Do you have any scars? If so what happened? If not name one imperfection on your body?

Dave: I have a few scars on my hands and legs from little adventures I had as a kid nothing major.  Falling off of my bike, tackle football, etc.

Buzznet: If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be?

Dave: Cheese, grilled cheese.

Buzznet: When you hear the word “oatmeal” what is the very first thing that comes to your mind?

Dave: Raisins.

When Dave was not busy eating grilled cheese in 2008 he was helping out his band with their year long project, so be sure to visit whatismae.com to learn more and make a donation.
