Music Suggestions summer of 2009

WOW I haven't been here in SO LONG (as if anyone even looks at this in the first place? haha)

well. my music sense of style has changed a liiiittle bit in the last year. yes, I still like Kings of Leon and MGMT, but I think my taste has expanded a bit. well. here is my new list of music suggestions for summer 09.

Lookin' for...

British Pop-rock-Beatles-esque music?

If you like Rooney, you will definitely like the band Locksley. I saw them live just yesterday and it was simply amazing. They're catchy tunes and repetitive chords/lyrics make their music irresistable to sing along to during those long car rides home. Song to check out - "Why Not Me?"

A female pop singer?

Little Boots is for you. Being the most adorable thing ever, Little Boots uses different sounds in her music compared to other pop artists in this day and age. I think she puts an indie and electronic twist to female pop music. song to check out - "Meddle" - WHICH IS MY FAV! also, "Stuck on Repeat" is incredible. it's long and great to dance to.

Stuff to listen to when you're sad?

I'm not sure whether this is good for my mental health... but Bon Iver puts me in a really odd cycle when I'm having a terrible day. First, his music makes me want to cry incredibly hard (sometimes, you just need to let it all out)... but after I cry, I feel so peaceful and loving. Ha.... um.... favorite song to listen to - "For Emma".

Electronic Genius?

I know they haven't come out with new stuff in a while, but Metronomy is absolutely wonderful. They remind me of Hot Chip in the best way possible. They also put an electronic/indie vibe on pop music (if you can even call it that?). You just HAVE to check out "A Thing For Me". Listen to that first (and check out the music video for it!), and then download "Radio Ladio". Their music is great to walk to in the city - that is, if you're a fast walker ;)

Some easy listening?

Van She is one of my favorite artists right now. They're from Australia and they are chill and beyond fabulous. They sound like a mix between M83 and Metronomy. Song to check out - "Cat & The Eye" as well as "Kelly"

Pure Ridiculousness?

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head is ridiculous from the name of their band to the things they sing about. They sing about facial hair grooming in "Beard Lust" and their song "Sophisticated Side Ponytail" is about... well, it's self explanitory. Do they have an odd obsession over hair? I'm not sure. Either way, their music is awesome to sing and dance to. I also highly advise seeing them live - their stage clothes are always trendy and they're ALWAYS ENERGETIC! I love this band. Songs to check out - ""Iceage Babeland", "Holding Hands In The Shower", and"Me + Yr Daughter". I love all of those songs equally <3
