Starry Nights with The Matches!!
starry Nights and Salty Seas, the show that will ever change my mind about some bands.
So if you’re reading this, well done you get to hear about my night of all nights with The Matches and The Higher and We Shot the Moon and The Ivey. If you opened this hoping to see the name Sherwood in the first sentence, you can just stop reading because they were being jerks to me and mine for a second time. So this is goanna focus on the good things more than the bad things but I have to tell the day in order, so it has to kind of start with Sherwood even though they didn’t get there till one and I was there at 11:30am. What? It’s true, I’m that dedicated to The Matches and The Higher because we meet before and they were so nice to me and my sister and my friend the times I saw them before but they pale in comparison to Friday February 8th 2008.
So my day started earlier at around 8 when my new Black berry pearl started to ring with my Audio Blood Ring tone, It was my mom. She was getting me up since I told her that if I didn’t text by 7:30am to call Patti and tell her to get me up, she was my wakeup call. After I was all up I got into the bath and was playing The Matches Decomposer (I can’t wait for the new album) while I was in there, have you ever played music while you are in the shower? It’s all echo all over the walls and it kind of fells like you have it right in the water with you, kind of like it would be if you had it playing in an indoor pool. You add that with the cd that was in, and it felt like a concert for one person I knew that this was the start of a great day. When I was out and dressed in a towel (and other articles of clothing) I went into my sister’s doorway to get her up, I was very nice about getting her up I said, “If you’re not up in an hour I’m leaving you here!” I knew she was up when a pair of sessiors nearly hit my leg, I went down into my room to finish getting dressed and getting my makeup and hair done, I was now listening to my warped tour 2006 cd witch has the higher on it. And since I don’t own a cd of there’s that’s the best thing I have next to getting on there Myspace or YouTube page.
By 10am we were off to the bus stop with a brief stop at Circle K to get some chips and monster, I got water and a bag of lays chips. We got to the bus stop with five minutes to spare and that was great timing to anyone, because if you ever have taken the bus you know its horrible to water with that felling if you just missed the bus you wanted to get on, and you useuly do for that matter of fact! Once we got on the bus I took out my headset to start listening to The Matches on my black berry, until my sister reminded me that I didn’t have my phone charger with me, so I turned it off and got on Myspace instead. I started to write my friend when our stop came to catch another bus that I was prepared to sit an hour for because we always had too. But it was on time, so I ditched the letter to my friend and ran for the bus, this was a bad idea. By the time we got to the venue, it was only 11:30 so we went into burger king to grab some fry’s and use the bathroom, which was the last time until around 2am that I used the bathroom. I stayed on the heavy breeding blog by Shawn Harris of the matches for the next three and a half hours until some one came and sat down, we didn’t talk for about five or ten minutes. But when we started to talk, it was as if we knew each other. The fact of the matter is, we probably should have known each other because every concert expect HorrorPop, Nekromantix, and fall out boy, and we were at every show the other one was at. And we were near each other anyways in the venues. We hit it off from the start, witch doesn’t happen often. We stayed there all day the first two in line, I being first of course.
At 1:30pm the band Sherwood arrived, we did what anyone would do seeing five guys with a bunch of stage stuff would do. Ask if they kneaded help, they were rude about saying no to us; ok I don’t care because last time Mickey was mean to me so I didn’t really care for them much after that! But they were really mean, the next band to arrive was The Matches at around 3pm we asked if they kneaded help, and they said “You can talk to us, if we kneed anything we will let you guys know first!” that’s better that was nice, so we said hi to everyone Jon was the first to talk to us so we held him close to us the night and he kept us in check in a good way the whole night. The next person to come over to us was Justin and Matt, they were cracking jolks about Jon singing to 30 seconds to mars just like us, so at one point when Shawn came out he was all “what’s so funny I don’t have a boggier sticking out do I?” we ashore him it wasn’t him we were laughing about, then matt told him why we were laughing. We spent time after they were done loading just talking to each other and I was playing patty cake with the guys watching, I knew Shawn wanted to come in and play but he had to take a phone call, we respect that. Then the other guys had to call someone too, ok we were alone for around 15 minutes until the band the Ivey came.
When they came they had to load quickly, because they had a photo shoot in 15 minutes. We stayed out of there way, and so did the higher who came five minutes after the Ivey came. Seth and me played some more patty cake, on the way in the door all the time, it was more like one word and a high five every five minutes. Then my sister’s friend asked Seth for his glasses, he gave them to her. Cheetah face told me he would give me my sharpie back but I couldn’t find him, to get it back after the show. I’m getting ahid of myself here, the other bands came at the same time as we were again talking to Shawn and I was all I want to get on the stripper pole that was in side the door, and he was all then go and get on it I’ll join you. And I said “I don’t want to get kicked out before I get in!” he said “I had that happen one day, and I had to play!” so as you can tell we goofed off with Shawn some time until the door closed and he had to go and get changed and tune his guitars the way he wanted them done!
At 6:15pm the doors opened and we were the first in line, while we were at the ticket counter I saw Justin and got a high five from him on the way in, I also told him to have a great show. We got into the room; it was like the lyrics of audio blood. “Tonight we meet under ground were the air is thick like mud and the bands make noise.” Because as soon as we got in there the first band was starting to play, the Ivey was a great band until the singer decided to jump into the audience of 20 people that didn’t know who they were, the singer landed on his face! We helped him back on stage and made sure he was ok, he was other than having landed on his face. They only had a three song set; I guess it’s better than nothing. The next band helped to take down there stuff and the Ivey helped put up there stuff; the next band was we shot the moon. The singer had this weird head thing on his keyboard, and I’m glad he didn’t want to jump into the crowd I didn’t think that the girls behind us wanted to help get him if he fell. There set only lasted 5 songs and they were off in time for another band to get on at 8:15 I don’t know the name of the other band but they had a girl drummer. There set was only 5 songs too and they were off by 8:50, at that time the stage was being cleared by kids and set by the higher. The higher was playing by 9pm there set was a little longer it was 10 songs and they played a cover of N*Sync they did Bye Bye Bye. They were off my 9:30 and the matches were being loaded on the stage there set was made up of there set list which I was lucky to get after the show so I will share it with you. so look into the photo ablums!
As you can see they plated three new songs next to each other they played A.M Tilts, This City and Wake the Sun. This set list is actually Shawn’s and if you look close enough you can see his shoe mark from stepping on it, its my second set list from the guys. By the time they were on papercut skin Shawn handed over his guitar and took his mic off the stand to jump into the crowed, he stayed up because I guess the majority was there for them.
When the song was done, he had fallen to his feet and walked or actually stopped for fans on his way out of the crowd, he actually takes time for his fans not like some other bands out there I know (Sherwood) because when I got out I found him and he asked me how I liked the show, I told him it ruled and I couldn’t wait for the next time to see them live. I also got a pick with him!
I told him I would see him out side and see if they were going to play an acoustic set or not, he said if they could. If I look way to happy in this picture, it’s because I am, this made my month possibly even my year. The first show of the year is always the best. And this is proof!!
Out side I found the guys again and by this time I had merch, I asked if they would sign them and if I could get a pick with them too. Jon said you can but can I eat a banana first, I said yes! I’m not that mean or fan crazy! The only one I didn’t get a pick with was Matt, next time matt next time!!
we got to stay around for a few hours just talking and helping load the van, when they weren’t watching I got into the van!! I didn’t take a pick because I saw Bob coming!
So what I’m saying is that if you ever get the chance to go and see the matches play live I would take it, so take my advice! And try to get bob to do some stand up!! And I won’t be surprised if the next time I see them I get to hang out just like I did on Friday, because get this they remember me from warped tour half a year ago and Justin remembers my mom from a year ago! Wanna bet!
These guys will always be my first priority even if they were with AFI or Sonny Moore! Oh wait they are with sonny Moore, at the Alternative Press tour coming in March! So I will see you then, and the guys will be seeing me then too!!
Oh and all the video from this show is on YouTube, remember I’m user xXxMercedesPagexXx!!
