First Impressions [chapter 6]

A strange feeling fills me as I watch Josh storm out of the supermarket. A feeling of success, triumph, pride. He's finally had it with that bitch. He's finally seen sense. Daniela stands, awe-struck at her sudden loss. And, I can't help but smirk, as she comes back to reality and thumps out of the supermarket after him, defeated.
"Mom, I'm back!" I chant. My tone sounds surprisingly cheerful for a drowsy Sunday morning. I shake off the thought and head to the kitchen, my mind set on cornflakes.
After breakfast, I feel the need to ring Lily. I dial her number quickly, tracing the buttons with my fingers. The familiar dialtone sounds as I hold the phone to my ear, waiting.
"Hello?" A sleepy sounding Lily answers.
"Oh, hey Lils, I've got gossip!"
"Hayley, do you know what time it is?" she moans.
My eyes wander over to the clock hanging from the kitchen wall. "'Bout 9," I reply, questioningly.
"Exactly! I was sleeping, Hayles!"
"Youch! C'mon Lils, don't be so lazy!"
"What's got you so cheery this morning?" She inquires, catching me off guard.
I pause, then mumble, "I think it was those damn cornflakes." She laughs before saying, "Go on then, what's the goss?"
"Okay, y'see, I was at the supermarket this morning, yah know the one down the road from my place? Well, Josh and Daniela were there, biting eachothers heads off-"
"That's just a metaphor, right?" Lily interupts.
"Of course. Fine, I'll rephrase. Josh and Daniela were there, screaming at eachother. Then Josh said something like 'I've had it, we're done' and left."
"Wow, Hayley, you really are getting into the gossip industry."
"I don't think there's such thing," I laugh. Lily joins.
"Hmm, yeah I guess not. Well, I'm gonna hang up now, catch'a later!" She hangs up the phone, and I am left with a shrill beeping noise radiating from the reciever.
Soon, the silence overwhelms me, and I stumble to my room, putting speakers in my ears and flicking on my iPod, bobbing my head to the soothing music.
It sure is a relief to be able to escape the pressure of reality for a while, even when things are turning out better than I'd planned.
Sorry. That chapter was short and boring and filler-ish, I know. I apologise, again.
