Red Bellied Woodpecker

Red Bellied Woodpecker

Ok, but why red bellied, when clearly there is no Red Belly!?!?

i prefer to call this one a "be-dazzled back woodpecker" but i think "be-dazzled" is copyrighted so i've been callin it "Speckle Back Pecker".

I dropped the "wood" from woodpecker because clearly this one is not peckin wood.

HaHa...I call them Peckerheads, they are called red bellied because they do have a reddish patch on their abdomen but it's really hard to see. This one is a male because it has the red crown and nape the female only has the red on the nape......Great shot he needs the feeder filled though : ]
