Chick Singers
I know I discussed this a little bit a few weeks ago in my post about Regina Spektor but I have a confession to make: I really like Chick singers that tends to be "chick music."
Listen, I'm a dude. I'm a firefighter, I wear Cherokee uniforms to work, wear boots, fix things, drink beer, take responsibility for things. I'm not the "I sit in my well-stocked basement with the NFL neon signs watching the game and drinking a brew" kind of guy but but a very dudely dude nonetheless. And saying this isn't compensating or whatever, it's necessary to make my point: chicks are empirically better at music entertainment. I'm more and more convinced about this as I listen to my "Chick Singers" Pandora station this morning. It started with the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" and "No Doubt" and as it plays more and more stuff I like, I realize that I have always been a chick singer fan. In middle school it was the No Doubt with Tragic Kingdom but now it goes from that to Regina Spektor to Alanis Morrisette to, yes, even the likes of the poppy, manufactured chicks like Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson.
I said imperical. That wasn't correct. I don't have any numbers. But I do have good arguments.
- Falsetto voices are kind of gay sounding 99% of the time. Sure, Coldplay and Radiohead pull it off most of the time but the rest of the world of dudes does it and sucks at it pretty bad. Screw falsetto. Take a cue from old Johnny Cash and sing like a man.
- Girls sing high and are still true to their gender.
- When chicks sing low - it's still awesome.
- Girl singers are rarer and everyone likes something novel and different. Every high school dude in the world wants to be a rockstar. It takes a cool chick to be confident enough to sing in front of a crowd like that. That, or an incredibly arrogant one. Any douche guy would do it. They would probably try to sing falsetto too.
- Chicks are prettier. It's entertainment. I want it to sound good and look good and a chick in medieval dress looks nicer than a dude in tight leather pants.
Alright, some of that was subjective. But music is an aesthetic topic, I'm alowed to introduce some subjectivity. And it's my blog. And chick singers are clearly better.
