Protest! Protest! Protest!

I'm the happiest, tired-est person in the world.

I went to the Silverstein show last night! Yipee!!
It was awesome, completely and utterly amazing. And now, I'm going to proceed with my first buzznet concert review! yays!

So me and my friend alina (there! i namedropped you, happy?) got to KH (kool haus, all the cool kids abbreviate it) at about 4:30 but there was already a pretty long-ass line. We were waiting ... and waiting ... and there was this couple in front of us. The guy went to put their coats away, and when he came back, he had to jump over the snow bank and landed right in front of me. The girl laughs and says "careful! you almost trampled the little girl!" Hold up, missy! I may be petit, but I'm in no way a "little girl". I gave them the death glare, but I don't think they saw it. Oh well.

When we finally got in, we decided to skip merch and get it later and go right on in. We were pretty close to the stage, second row-ish, but we were standing so you couldn't really tell. We were waiting for our friend Zack, who got in at the last minute, we pulled him into the crowd, and then waited ... and waited.

And then Devil Wears Prada came out! Whee! LMAO. They played Goats On A Boat, and some other songs and then they played Hey John. My 2 fave songs. And the only two songs I know all the lyrics to. Shut up, I never said I was their biggest fan.

After them, illScarlett. I loved their green set, totally awesome and they're amazing live. "And here's a less pussy song for you all" lmao!

I guess I should mention that after TDWP, they pulled the curtain back to reveal the illScarlett backdrop thing. But they didn't do that after illScarlett, but it was okay because we all know Protest was going next. But they pulled back the curtain to reveal...

the silverstein backdrop! DUN DUN DUN!
I didn't make much of it, but people started booing. And then they started chanting 'Protest! Protest! Protest!'. Which, came the statement from Alina "hey! they're protesting for protest!". Stupidest joke, but so fucking funny. But Protest The Hero eventually came out, and needless to say people were happy.

And then when they finished, a bunch of people started walking towards the back, so we inched up and got pretty close. I think there was a group of people who wanted to see protest and illscarlett and tdwp, and another group that wanted to see silverstein. Personally, I liked all of them.

We waited EONS for Silverstein. And then the lights dimmed, and we realized they were here! YAY! A bunch of creepy music started playing and then they came out. Finally. For a second, I blanked, but I quickly revived from all the moshers and pushing. And then we sang, danced and moshed the night away. At the end I got gray SILVERSTEIN shirt.

Best. Night. Ever.
and we got Mike Hranigan's autograph!

Next concert? Alt Press Tour 2008. And I know it's kinda early, but I gotta find someone to GO-TRAIN to Warped with this year. Alina isn't going, and neither is Zack. : (

But ending on a note of Silverstein - AWESOME!

illScarlett.

TDWP. Picture Perfect ... except for the security guard >.<

illScarlett vs. Umbrella

I was looking through youtube for illScarlett vids, and came across a cover version of Umbrella. I near fell off my chair laughing. I like the original but this one I like better. Everyone teases me about liking the song, but it's pretty damn catchy. Anyway, people should check it out... I think it's posted in my videos...

Cheers...

ILL Scarlett Performance in Guelph

ILL Scarlett Performance

Guelph Ontario Thursday August 2nd 2007

About a week after I went to see Billy Talent in Toronto, I was driving by downtown when I noticed a certain band playing at the Cowboy bar in my city. It was very exciting to see that Ill Scarlett would be doing a show with The Aggrolites. After seeing them in Toronto and hearing them on 102.1FM the edge I was a really looking forward to the show. I even invited a few friends along to this one.

When I first got downtown I got a chance to get my picture taken with Johnny D the bass guitarist from the band. While waiting for the doors to open the band members hung out and talked with fans. I didn't go up and talk to them myself because I was a little shy.

The first opening band for the show was a local one. They weren’t too bad, but the floor wasn't very lively. It turned out that half the people were there for Ill Scarlett and the rest were for the The Aggrolites. Anyway the Second band Creep Show from Toronto was actually really good. The lead was a chick and overall they put on a really great performance. I'd never heard of them before that night. I wouldn’t mind listening to one of they’re CDs.

I was a much happier at this concert because they let you take in water bottles into the bar so I didn't have to leave my spot very much. I got to keep an amazing spot for when Ill Scarlett finally came on. I was right in front of the microphone stand on the stage. I even put my water bottle in front of an amp.

When the moment I'd waited for had finally arrived it was fucking awesome! Ill Scarlett put on an unforgettable performance. I ran out of breath two or three times, and got hit in the back of the head. My friends disappeared in the very active mosh pit. They took pictures for me from different angles as they were being tossed around. (GOD I LOVE MOSH PITS)

Sadly the performance was cut a little short. The lead singer had a really bad stomach cramp and had to sit down for the last song. I had a bad stomach cramp myself for two days and I was still sore so I know how he felt.

The Best Part was after the show. My friends dragged me outside to meet the lead singer from the Creep show. I got my picture taken with her and then went back inside.

When I was inside the The Aggrolites started performing, and I just happened to bump into and old high school friend. He was there with his older brother who had bought Alex Norman (Ill Scarlett's head man) a few beers. So I caught up with him for a little bit and then he took me to the back of the building where his brother and, some friends were Smoking a bowl with Alex. It was pretty fucking awesome. We hung out and talked for a few minutes. Alex got a text message on his cell phone from his manager while we were sitting there. It turned out that they scored a magazine interview. After that I got my picture taken with Alex and then we headed back to the bar. On our way back a car was driving by playing the band’s song One-A. My friends were all like "Ain't that F-ing awesome they're playing your song man, it’s like you were destined to be famous." After we went back inside I didn't catch much of Alex because I started watching the The Aggrolites. I think he was still with my buddies in the drinking section. Those guys from Ill Scarlett are really nice to their fans. It was fun talking to them, they were very professional and not too stuck up.

A cool thing about The Aggrolites was that they came on stage in prison uniforms. That caught my attention right away. They weren’t to bad either, and had a similar style of performance to the Creep Show. I had a great time, between meeting new bands and catching up with old friends.

PS. draconias, andieafi, and

falloutatthedisco666 were with me

Billy Talent Concert July 13 2007 At the Molson Amphitheatre

July 13 At the Molson Amphitheatre with BILLY TALENT, Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats, Attack In Black, Die Mannequin, and a special performance by Ill Scarlett

This was perhaps one of my greatest concert adventures yet. I was a little hesitant to go because I've already seen Billy Talent at the Air Canada centre, and on much music this year, but the second I found out a newer band named Ill Scarlett was going to show up I just had to go.

The performances are all listed in order from start to finish, enjoy!

I
LL SCARLETT

When the concert started Ill Scarlett rocked the stage in their own little tent outside the actual stage. It was a privet show for their fans. I was a little disappointed at first. I'm a pretty big fan and I thought they'd be one of the last bands to play. It actually turned out better that they performed outside. I got to be fairly close to them. I was blown away by their impressive performance. They sound just as amazing live as they do on the CD, if not better. I was impressed on how the lead inspired the crowd to sing “Nothing Special” with him. After they played a few songs they handed out posters and a T-shirts to people near the front. The energetic Front man also informed people that he'd be playing at a beer tent after Billy Talent. I didn't get to go, but I did hang around the pier just a couple of feet away from the beer tent. My boyfriend and I danced to a few of their songs alone by the moonlit pier. It was very Romantic. One of the songs I enjoyed the most was when Ill Scarlett did their own version of Rihanna Umbrella song. It was a thousand times better than the original version. They're very nice guys in person too. Alex the headman signed posters for us.

Cancer Bats, Attack In Black, Die Mannequin

Unfortunately I missed out on most of their performances. At the start of the concert they took away my water bottle. The cost of water there was $3.75 Canadian. The worst part was that it was the same type of water bottle they took away from me that they were selling. Unfortunately I had NO money left and I got dehydrated fairly quickly because of some meds that I'm on. It also turned out that they have no drinking fountains and I asked if I could have a cup for water, but they couldn't even give me one because they kept stock of all the cups. Eventually I was directed to go to a first Aid tent, but I couldn't find it on my side of the amphitheatre. My last resort was to drink water from the washroom tap with my hands. I don't know how sanitary that is, but it helped. When I was in my seat for the performances the sun was in my face so I couldn’t see them very well. From what little I saw or heard of them, I felt they did a good job. The crowd seemed to be very pleased.

ALEXISONFIRE

They were pretty damn good, I liked the way they song with Billy Talent and the Cancer Bats for a few songs. Ian D'Sa from Billy Talent Jumped in for “Boiled frogs” and Dallas Green jumped in for Billy Talent's “Surrender”. Dallas Green also did a good job getting the audience pumped up at the right moments. It even turned out to be the day before Bassist Chris Steele’s birthday. So we all had to sing happy birthday. Alexisonfire put on a really great show, and seemed thrilled to be there. How could they not? Performing they’re friends Billy Talent. It seems that good Canadian bands really enjoying sticking together.

BILLY TALENT

ALL RIGHT

BEN IS THE WORLD'S MOST AWESOME MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER!!!!

The final performance was just amazing as always. (Front man) Ben really got the crowd going the second he got up there. His introductions to his songs were inspirational and moving. I've seen MCR Live and Gerard can't top Ben for his amazing intros. I especially enjoy the colorful language he uses about Canadian and American politics when introducing political songs. They defiantly got a bone to pick with Bush and Harper, but who doesn’t?

That performance was really something special. I could feel it when the air around me began to reek of weed, adding to my excitement. This was perhaps the essence of being Canadian I thought as Ben announced his excitement for Canada day. Unfortunately it turns out the band had missed it, so to make up for that they promised to rock harder for Canada day that concert night. They defiantly kept their promise, and they even had more stage effects than the last time I saw them. Before performing “Nothing to lose” Ben said, “We're all here to have a good time with our friends, and forget about the Crap” or something to that effect. During the song the Molson screens closed in on a tattoo on his chest. It said “Never give up”. That reminded me of all the Crap I’ve been through. I wanted to cry, but I was too happy, excited, and moved. The song “The EX” was originally no longer going to be performed, but the band refused to leave it out of the performance. At the end we all sang Red Flag together and then on the last note the stage blow up with reddish smoke. I could go on and on about how great the concert was, but I’m lazy. Seriously if you want more details I highly suggest you see them live. Words will never be enough to describe they’re performance.

Thanks Billy Talent for putting on such great shows

Warped Tour 2007 -- Barrie

Saturday, Alysha and I headed off to our first Warped Tour in Barrie! The morning got off to a bit of a rough start. Dad drove us to the Yorkdale bus terminal where Greyhound was supposedly offering a cheap shuttle to the venue. As it turned out, there was no shuttle. We were a little annoyed, but weren't going to let a little bump in the road ruin the day. We met a girl who was from Belgium who was stuck at the terminal, so Dad offered to drive the three of us all the way to Barrie, which really surprised me, but in a totally good way!

This is what greeted us upon FINALLY getting to Barrie. Tho LONGEST line ever. Okay well, maybe not ever.. but it was really long and by this time, already really hot. But it was fun! While we were waiting, Brendan from Valencia was walking around selling cds. He was a super chill dude, so I bought it and I was so not disappointed! They're an awesome band!

(Alysha and I waiting in the long ass line)

We waiting in line for about an hour and once we were finally on the grounds, we found the board to see who was playing when and where.

I was a little bummed that we missed The Starting Line. They would have been amazing... Oh well.
Cute Is What We Aim for played at 1, so we checked them out. I was honestly really surprised at how good they are live!

I'm not going to lie, I kind of fell in love with Shaant's shitty hair... lol

Jeff is Cute!

A really shitty picture of Dave Melillo who is touring with CIWWAF. He's pretty awesome!

Fred... I am kind of sad that Jack isn't in the band anymore. Does that make me a bad person?

Band number two of the day was Paramore who played right after Cute. I was so excited to see them, and I was NOT disappointed. They were incredible! Hayley's voice is so awesome!

Riot = one of my favourite cds at the moment!

We were in second row, which made me super happy!

Super close up of Josh

And again..

A shitty picture of Taylor... :(

Jeremy rocking out

She looked right at us!

One of my favourite pictures of the day!

Josh, some of Zac, and Jeremy's back?

It looked like he was going to jump, lol.

After Paramore's amazing set, we wandered over to the Skate 4 Cancer tent so I could buy a tee and hopefully meet Rob.

He is one of the most inspirational people on the face of the planet. I looked like shit... I was so hot and talking to my sister when she took the picture... lol. But, I was still happy. Together, we will find a cure. ♥

This was some of the crowd... It was absolutely insane!

Our disgusting feet... not even half way through the day.

After we had some lunch, we headed over to the Hurley stage to watch The Spill Canvas. I didn't think I could possibly love them anymore than I already did, but after seeing them live, I love them WAY more! They're another awesome live band! They sang two new songs. I can't wait for the new cd!

The next band that we checked out was Hawthorne Heights. I LOVE these guys, but I was a little scared about how intense the crowd would be. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. We were in second row but off to the side, so we managed to avoid the mosh pit, thankfully. However, we were unable to avoid the massive amounts of mosh pit induced dust. That was interesting, but all part of the learning experience! And not to mention, it was not half as bad as what we would experience later on in the afternoon!

We were trying not to choke to death, lol

So a lot of my pictures from their set didn't turn out because of all the dust... but it was still cool! I was beyond happy when they sang Ohio Is For Lovers!! That is for sure my favourite song by them!

After this, we wandered over to the Hurley stage again where illScarlett (an awesome band from Mississauga) were going to play. K-os was still on stage, so we watched the end of his set. This was the second time I saw him live (he played my Frosh Week at university two years ago) and he is so awesome! Nobody can freestyle like him!

We really wanted to see illScarlett, so we were at the stage super early. We claimed our spots right on the barricade and kind of watched Protest the Hero who were playing on the stage right next to where illScarlett was going to play. They are hardcore mother fuckers, but it was kind of fun to watch them!

His tight blue shiny spandex shorts were entertaining!

After this, it was FINALLY time for illScarlett and as I mentioned, we were right on the barricade. It was absolutely fucking intense.
The guys waiting to come on stage! That's how close we were!

A random shot of the crowd?

I didn't get to take too many pictures during their set, which made me kind of sad. There was a lot of crowd surfing going on and I was too busy trying not to get crushed. I did manage to get kicked in the face twice though... and a few times in the ribs and the neck. Our bodies took a ton of abuse, but oddly enough it was a lot of fun. The only shitty thing was somebody bled ALL OVER my shirt while they were crowd surfing. It was so gross, so I changed into my illScarlett shirt that I had bought earlier in the day and threw out the other one. Thankfully, it was only a $10.00 shirt from Wal-Mart! The band was so much fun though, so the pain was totally worth it!

The last band we saw perform was Boys Like Girls. I am OBSESSED with BLG! I was totally all fan-girly during their set! Their cd is amazing! I seriously listen to it at least three times a day, all the way through. Seeing them was for sure the highlight of the day!

Best.Picture.Ever

Martin + Paul = ♥

Bryan is amazing too!

A decent drummer picture? I didn't know that was possible!

Paul = LOVE

He was SO close!

Another one of Paul and Martin

Amazing!

John, he kind of reminds me of another John I know who is also a drummer, lol.

Alex from All Time Low came out to sing Hero/Heroine

Close up of Alex and his orange undies

Fucking L.O.V.E him!

Beautiful!

Bryan looked the same in every picture I took, lol.

I wish this wasn't blurry!

Good aim, and no, it wasn't mine!

Best thing ever was when they sang Thunder. That is my favourite song. I seriously almost cried when they played it! It was perfect! And of course, my camera died at the very end of the set when Martin was in the crowd like two inches away from my face. I was SO bitter! But at least I got the pictures that I did! As soon as the set was over, we ran to the Basement tent where illScarlett was doing a signing. They are super awesome guys!

Overall, the day was AMAZING! I seriously couldn't have asked for a better day! I was so impressed by everything that was Warped Tour!! I can't wait for next year!
