A Husband's Gift

I know that Christmas is over, but my husband and I are still in awe of the wonderful gifts that we got this year. I can't believe how blessed we are to have such giving  family members.  Sometimes I don't know what we would do without them. They were so kind to my husband this year with the gifts that they gave him.

He got some cheap concert tickets to see his favorite band The Never Setting Suns from his younger brother.  The only reason I mention that they were cheap is because he kept telling us what a good deal he got on them.  He also got some joy division shirts that he's been asking for forever from his sister.  These are just a few of the many wonderful gifts he got from his wonderful family.

It's so evident when you are around my husband when he's with his family how much he loves and misses them.  It's so nice to see him show them so much respect and love, and vice versa.  What a great family! I love my family too.  We are at my parent's house playing games tonight with my sister, brother-in-law, brother, and sister-in-law while they are all in town. We are all spending the night too, which is awesome. We are also watching this on Hulu while we play games and enjoy some of this.  This movie is hilarious. Peace.

White Elephant for Christmas

White Elephant is my favorite gift exchange game to play at Christmas time.  I can always count on playing it at least twice every Christmas, which is awesome. Yesterday and my family and their friends' Christmas party acounted for one of them.  This party is so fun, and the white elephant game just makes it even better.  There are so many of us, and we are all masters at this gift exchange game thing.

When I say that we are masters at white elephant, I mean it.  We all have our own strategies that we use and we show absolutely no mercy. My husband and I are allies in the game, so we always try to get what the other one wants for them.  This helps a lot but gets people kind of frustrated sometimes.  The cool thing about this gift exchange is that the gifts you bring only have to cost $25 dollars, that's the only rule.  This provides for some pretty intereseting gifts.  My husband brought some of these this year, and I brought a Kata backpack.  My gift ended up being a High Sierra bag, so I was pretty excited with my win.  This is something that both my husband and I can use.

My next white elephant gift exchange will be on Christmas day with my immediate family.  Ours isn't as ruthless, but it is still just as fun.  It's also much nicer gifts :)  Well, I'm very excited about all of this, but I'm fading fast.  I think I'm going to watch SNL’s A Very Gilly Christmas on Hulu and then go to bed.  I can't wait until Christmas day!  Peace.

Thanksgiving News A Little Late

Thanksgiving with my husband and the rest of my family this past weekend was so great. My husband and I usually have to do a lot of traveling on Thanksgiving, and this year was no exception. The traveling didn't used to bother us, but its starting to take its toll on us. We can't wait until we have kids and they have to come visit us lol. Anyway, we woke up around seven a.m. to get our share of the cooking done to bring to my family's house. Then we got ready and realized that waking up at seven was a mistake and much too early, so we got to just hang out with each other for a while. That was very nice, kind of like the calm before the storm. We talked about what we were thankful for, and then watched a couple of SNL clips on Hulu to help the time pass. It was great because I love hanging out with my husband, no matter what we're doing. I love spending the holidays with my husband.

Anyway, around twelve we headed down to my parent's house in Kentucky and had a wonderful Thanksgiving there. It was so nice to have it with my baby niece there. My parents were giving my brother and sister-in-law parenting tips most of the time because their child was a bit fussy. We talked about how all of our jobs were going and talking about our Christmas plans. I think we may try to find some of cheap sports tickets and go together as a family to see a Bengals game and that can cover our gifts to one another. Although, we may just go ahead and get each other presents anyway because we want to have presents to open on Christmas morning lol. Either way, I'm really looking forward to Christmas with my family this year. We always have a great time together at Christmas. My sister and my brother-in-law is coming in town for Christmas, which will be really nice. We hardly ever get to see them.

A few hours after having Thanksgiving at my family's house, we went to my husband's family's house in Ohio to have Thanksgiving there. I'm glad that I like Thanksgiving food so much, or all this traveling would be to much to bear lol. I'm also glad that my husband's mom is a wonderful cook. This year, we brought them one of these instead of making food and bringing it over. We've never done that before, so we were nervous as to how they were going to take it. Luckily, they loved it and shared some of the chocolate contents with us. While we were there, they were telling me hilarious stories about my husband's older brother about how many times he's gotten physically injured. I always wondered why he was so crazy lol. He's a great guy, he's just a little too intense for me sometimes. My husband's mom was nice enough to share a few of her recipes with me before we left, and I can't wait to try them. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving as well! Peace.

Black Friday Recap

Yes, it is true that I survived, but I’m still recovering from my black friday shopping spree with my mom yesterday. I woke up this morning with a horrible cold due to waking up so early yesterday and being around so many sick people I guess. It was worth it though because I got a lot of my Christmas shopping done, got great deals, and had a great time with my mom. Usually there are atleast a few rude people that you run into on black friday, but yesterday there were none! It seemed like everyone was in a great mood, which was awesome to be around. Especially when you’re in line with that person for like an hour lol. People can get really impatient, that's for sure. What made the day even better was that after we were done shopping, we went and saw New Moon for the third time. I love New Moon way too much, but I don't even care!

I also love black friday way too much. I love shopping, so a day dedicated to it makes me excited lol. I bought a Baggalini for my mom, when she wasn’t looking, and a wireless printer for my husband among other things for other people. My mom bought my sister some jane iredale mineral makeup, which she’s been asking for forever. I was starting to wonder if my mom got the hint from my sister. We also bought a ton of movies because just about every store we went to was selling them for dirt cheap. Usually I just buy them online for cheap, but the stores’ prices were even cheaper. They’re good movies too, not old or bad ones. A lot of people in my family are movie buffs, so movies are always a good present for them.  Getting them movies is a lot easier too.

As for today, I’m just back at my apartment trying to rest. I feel like I accomplished something because I put up all of our Christmas decorations today, which was really fun. My husband helped, which made it even more entertaining than usual. We live in an apartment, so its not that hard to decorate.  I also went out and bought all the wrapping paper and ribbon I need for Christmas presents.  Right now I’m watching Return To Me on Hulu and drinking some of this. It helps make my sore throat feel better. Now if I could only manage to not sneeze in it, that would be awesome lol. My husband’s out with some friends at a bachelor party…lucky. It’s going to be really fun. Him and his friends aren’t into strippers or anything like that, so they are just playing ultimate frisbee, going to see a movie, and then going out to eat. I’m definitely thankful for that, so thankful. Well, I just ordered some dinner and am going to get back to watching my movie. It’s a good one! Peace.

Packing

I've been going a little crazy trying to pack and get ready for this trip to Arizona.  It's a lot warmer there, and I don't really have the clothes that go along with that climate.  Honestly, all I wear during the summer is athletic shorts and a t-shirt.  The winter is the only time I ever dress up lol.  I have a few summer dresses I could bring to wear, but that's about it.  We are going to be in AZ for five days, so I'm going to have to find some clothes that work.

I'm also kind of confused about airport rules when it comes to what you can and can't bring on the plane.  I'm bringing my High Sierra bag as luggage and my Kata backpack as a carry on.  I know that my luggage can't weigh more than 50 pounds, which may or may not be hard for me to ensure.  I know that I can't really carry any liquids in my backpack too.  I'm going to have to print out a list from the airport on what you can and can't bring.  I only looked at online today, so I don't really remember.  I'm sure my mom knows.  She's always good at keeping up with that kind of stuff.  I know that she's using this for her luggage, so that's good.

I can't believe that we are leaving so soon.  I'm kind of nervous about flying, but not as nervous as my mom is.  She has some anxiety about it for sure.  I'm just nervous because I don't get to sit next to her on the flight and I don't know who I'm going to have to sit next to lol.  I know that you can switch seats at the last minute just incase some one cancels so I'll have to check our itenarary online to be sure.  I've been trying to distract my nervousness with watching some SNL on Hulu today.  I love this skit.  Kristen Wigg is so hilarious.  You definitely need to watch it.  That's all I have for today.  Have a great day.  Peace.

Just Hanging Out With My Husband Tonight

I love nights like tonight...just relaxing and hanging out with my husband. Yes, sometimes it is really nice to go out on dates, but sometimes it is also very nice to just be able to hang out with each other at home. My husband is literally my best friend, so I love being around him. I love that we are content just be ourselves around each other and to not have any pretenses with each other. Ah! Right now I'm just watching him play video games, which I honestly really like to do. Is that weird? lol

Earlier we were looking around on Hulu and watching some movie trailers and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. One of the movie trailers we saw that made us super excited was the one for Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. It looks crazy, but then that book is pretty crazy. Johnny Depp looked amazing in this
and the rest of his make-up. What a good choice by Burton for the role of the Mad Hatter! Johnny Depp is definitely one of my favorite actors. We also watched the trailer for A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. This also looks like its going to be a sweet movie. It's made just like The Polar Express with creepy digital characters and everything lol.

I also found out today that Stephenie Meyer is definitely making The Host into a movie now! I am so incredibly excited about this because I love that book tremendously. Its going to be an independent movie, which should be interesting. I wonder how it will turn out. If you want you read more about it, you can do that here
. Anyway, I think I'm about to buy either a pair of sheepskin boots
or bearpaw boots
for the upcoming fall/winter season! Yay for me! Peace

Feeling Good

I got this crazy infection in my check this past week, and it was aweful.  Yesterday I started feeling better, and today I'm feeling much better.  I'm so thankful that its starting to heal.  I thought I was dying or something.  It was super swollen and super painful.  All the doctor told me was that it was an infection, but they didn't know how or why.  Anyway, he put me on two different antibiotics and a pain killer and I was out for a week.  I literally could not do anything but lay there lol. I felt so useless.

I watched a lot of movies on Hulu and from my own collection.  Hulu has a lot of Johnny Depp movies on there right now, so I watched all of those.  Cry Baby, Benny and June, and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.  I really liked them all.  Johnny Depp is a great actor and I typically like all the movies that he's in.

I was also watching a lot of romance movies like Becoming Jane and Ever After.  I love those movies, but I always want them to go on past the point where the movie ends.  Right now I'm just waiting for my niece to be born this week.  She is due tomorrow, but you know how these things go.  I've tried to clear my schedule as much as possible so that I can go the hospital to visit her as soon as I can.  I'm really excited.  Peace.

An open letter to Hulu

I'd just like to say that I eat lunch at home during the work day and loved that I could sit down and stream a show with no wait.  I have been telling my friends about Hulu since it went beta and then public.  People came up to me and said how funny it was that it took this long to get ads for Hulu on TV when we've been using it as per my recommendation for a long time already.  And when Boxee came out and I got in on that beta I was thrilled to watch Hulu, commercials and all, on my TV.
And now I hear that you pulled support for Boxee.  The point of Hulu is to get TV on demand, through the internet and with advertising so the network providers still prosper.  How does insuring that it not show up on a TV screen and only small monitors help your network partners?  How does limiting the convenience of a good product help anyone?

I would really like to know what the issue is.  People who use Boxee are probably tech savvy and will probably find some other way of watching their shows on their TVs.  Since networks are legally obligated to NOT put locked flags on their  broadcasts bittorrent looks like a viable and even legal (as of this moment) alternative.  And of course, the networks won't get numbers or advertising revenue from that.

If you can actually tell me the thought that went into this then let me know because me and a lot of people I know are completely baffled by an internet TV provider's fear of televisions.

movies movies movies...

Today has been filled with... me watching movies. I finally managed to see Kung Fu Panda and it was better than I expected. I expected it to be another Madagascar or Happy Feet. Not that I have anything against those movies, it's just that I can't sit through computer animated movies because they tend to drag on. Some are good, like Shrek, The Incredibles, Meet the Robinsons, and Over the Hedge, but most don't have me cracking up (the ones I mentioned do.) Kung Fu Panda was awesome though! And it has a decent storyline as well. Kind of inspiring too. I'm sure every kid walking out of the theater will feel like they can do whatever they set their mind to. Po (the main character panda) is a clumsy panda trying to get by at his duck father's noodle shop at the beginning but by the end he's a mean fighting machine (yet still as panda-bear-like as he was at the beginning.) Watch it anfd you'll know what I'm talking about, it's all about "THE SECRET INGREDIENT." Haha. Jack Black was great at voicing Po, two thumbs up for him. And although I'm no top-notch movie critic, I'd give this a 4 out of 5 (especially for being a kid's movie!!) You should give it a chance like I did, I'm sure you'll find something funny in it... and if you're one of those die hard computer animated fans, I'm sure you've already seen it. ;D
The other movie I saw today was an older one that got a lot of hype over on MySpace. Remember back when most everyone and their dog changed their profile name to "McLovin"? Yup, I finally saw Superbad. I tried watching it before but I got bored fast. I wasn't really into movies that said "dick" and "fiuck" so much in the first ten minutes. But hey, I gave it another shot and toward the end I liked the movie. There are definiately some funny parts... yet I still don't think the McLovin thing is all that hilarious. Michael Cera was aweosme in the movie. I think I may be a bigger fan of his acting style than back in his Arrested Development  days (which by the way will have a movie soon! wo0t!) He's a believable actor.  Over all Superbad was good so  I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. And just for the heck if it, Emma Stone is pretty hott. I think it's the voice and mysterious look to her.
The other film I saw today was that other talked about movie with Michael Cera... you know, the one where he gets that girl pregnant then she doesn't know what to do but evetually finds a loving adoptive family for it??... Yuuup, I finally saw Juno. When I first heard about it I didn't really care to see it because I'm not really into sentimental movies (the only one I've ever really enjoyed is A Walk To Remember)... and I thought it was a documentary. Haha, by now you must be thinking I'm a psycho-movie-hater... but guess what! Juno was great. I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. I might even go purchase it. But who knows... haha. And if you were stubborn like me and didn't see Juno, go do it NOW. It's that good.
I think after today, I may be more open to a lot of movies I've avoided before. :D For anyone interested, you should check out Hulu. It has some great "sleeper hit" movies and it's legal because NBC or FOX or some company owns it. There are some good TV shows on it too. Go check it out at www.hulu.com
