'Monsters vs. Aliens' boasts impressive cast, new photos

Monsters vs. Aliens, Dreamworks Animation's next animated feature, is the first comic book adaptation to be put on the screen by the company. Taking a direct inspiration from '50s horror films, the movie stars Reese Witherspoon as a woman who gets hit by a meteor on her wedding day, turning her into a giant.

The film hopes to break ground by crafting a sci-fi horror comic into an animated family feature. The preliminary designs for the film are meant to mirror the comic Rex Havoc and the Ass Kickers of the Fantastic. While the adaptation takes liberty with the story, the basic idea is the same: a non-descript everyman unwittingly becomes a superhero and must assemble a squad of monsters to fight against an alien attack.

Sound nerdy? Check out the two promo images Dreamworks has released:

If that hasn't impressed you, check out the cast:

  • Rainn Wilson - the evil alien Gallaxhar
  • Hugh Laurie - Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.
  • Seth Rogen - the jellylike B.O.B.
  • Will Arnett - the half-ape, half-fish Missing Link
  • Kiefer Sutherland - General W.R. Monger
  • Stephen Colbert - The President
  • Reese Witherspoon - Susan Murphy
Monsters vs. Aliens won't be out for over a year (March 27, 2009), but I'm already excited for its release. How about you?

Looks interesting. Hope it is as good as The Incredibles was?

I also got some interesting movie news for those like me who did not know this.
Did you know that Robert Downey Jr. is to be in The Incredible Hulk movies as Tony Stark?
Yes it is true. I got the info and cast line for both movies from IMBd
I wrote a journal about it.

Hahaha I love the casting... Hugh Laurie as the doctor, Kiefer Sutherland as the 'war monger,' and Steven Colbert as the President... someone has an awesome sense of humor over at Dreamworks. And I am curious to see the adaptation of the film; it's an interesting horror comic being turned into a family flick, which is a somewhat unique idea.
sounds interesting =D and it looks awesome ^^
i love animation =D

I read a story in the newspaper about this, the movie is filled with lots of allusions to other monster movies. For instance, the character Susan grows to be 49 feet, 11 and a half inches tall.
