Heath death affects White House

It's not often I say GOOD FORM, especially to like, The White House, but...

The death of actor Heath Ledger prompted the White House to postpone President Bush's event on Wednesday promoting an ad campaign aimed at preventing prescription drug abuse.

Ledger, 28, who was nominated for an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain," was found dead Tuesday in his New York apartment. There were sleeping pills near him, but the cause of his death remains under investigation.

The president was to make a statement in the Roosevelt Room... on the Office of National Drug Control Policy's television advertisement about preventing prescription drug abuse. A federally financed study released in December at the White House showed illicit drug use by teens continued to gradually decline overall this year, but the use of prescription painkillers remained popular among young people. White House press secretary Dana Perino said Bush's event had been scheduled for a while.

"We thought it would be better to postpone the event rather than run the risk of anyone thinking that we were being opportunistic in highlighting the issue," she said.

Wanna see some BAD FORM? See the jerks who are saying Heath deserved to die, because he played a gay man in Brokeback Mountain.

There is a Hearts for Heath group if you'd like to pay your respects to him here on Buzznet.

Lastly-- I know a few of you addressed this already, but-- in response to queries as to why a "famous person's death" affects so many people versus the people that die every day... isn't it obvious?

It's hard to mourn for people we have no attachment to or investment in. With celebrities and public figures, we witness their LIFE. We spend time with their characters, their personalities. They (like someone else had mentioned) make us feel. We read about them, we look at pictues of them, we anticipate their upcoming roles. We appreciate them. I'm not saying they're more important than the average person, but they OBVIOUSLY have a more widespread effect. Panasonicyouth brings up this very topic in the Question of the Day -- weigh in.

Am I making sense?

I just posted an article about the Baptist church protesting his memorial services.....I can't believe it....my friend said we should protest the church....I think we should shoot them, but that's just me.

and yes, you make perfect sense and you put it really well.

Yup. Well put, Bree.

That particular Baptist group seems to hate anyone but themselves. How pathetic and sad, really. And how against everything that Jesus taught. I don't believe in God myself, and I don't subscribe to any religion, but Jesus had some good things to say about how to make living together in peace possible. These people have turned it all upside down and inside out. If there is a hell, I am sure THEY will be the ones going there in the end...

Seconded, especially the last paragraph. Public figures AREN'T more important than the average person, but THEY ARE people, and you can't blame people for feeling sympathetic to such a senseless loss.

=/ it's so sad that he died like that...and so young...=[[
Even worst, there's som asshole who says he'll protest in Heath's funeral for "promoting homosexuality". Fuckers.
and wtf! he's an actor....like. actors *HINT* act...it's not like he was really gay so why the f*ck does it matter.. and even if he was. SO WHAT?! why do you care? it's not you're family. he has nothing to do with your life. so f*ck off.

Well put Bree, well put....

my heart goes out to the guy's kid, personally.
& how disrespectful can people be? protesting at a funeral?
some people don't care how low they stoop just to assert their opinion.
whether you agreed with his work or not, he was just an innocent man & he died. just let the people who loved him mourn.
urgh. stuff like that makes me so angry.
RIP heath though. always sad when people are snatched away like that.

that makes me sick that they would say someone as amazing has him deserved to die.
i actually just wrote about the whole churches against homosexual people.
i mean, the bible doesnt say its a sing to be gay. it says its a sin to "lay with another man"

IT WAS A MOVIE. why would ANYONE care. its not even like they actually had intercorse wtf. ugh. people like that piss me off.

if you didnt already know.
heath ledger plays the joker in the new batman movie. idk if it was finished before this.
but thats what i herd.

so the churches can not remember him as the "gay cowboy" and move on with thier lives.

what is happening to the world today? why cant people just leave other peoples lives alone. UGH idk its a shame that he died. whether it was by choice, or accident, i honestly dont care. the fact is, a great actor died. and obviously its going to affect more pople because of the fact that he plays great roles in some amazing movies, and people relate to his character. So in a way, its like that character that they love, died with him. its not just because hes famous guys, think about it.

xoxo

its amazing how some people can be so prejudice against homosexuals. it makes me ill just knowing people are thinking he deserved to die because he played a gay man in a movie. that is pathetic
Jeffreydenton: 01/23/2008 1:33 PM
Anyone wanna picket their funerals when they die I THINK YES!
Kitiara.: 01/23/2008 1:34 PM
I posted the flyer(sp?) found on godhatesfags.com in my journal early this morning in an incoherent rage.

*sigh*
SnowJobxBlowJob™: 01/23/2008 1:34 PM
How could you say something like that? How could you... that's so FUCKED UP! Honestly, the fact the he was in Brokeback Mountain made me like him more as an actor. Ugh, fucking people.
cottoncandie: 01/23/2008 1:39 PM
well said! Someone just asked me why everyone cared about his death when people die everyday. But I also think that's pretty obvious and a very stupid question. I think that we just lost one of the best actors of our time, and i feel so sorry for his family and friends :( Rest in peace, Heath!
Stacie O: 01/23/2008 1:54 PM
Stupid fucks who thought that Heath deserved to die because of his role those assholes have to get off their high horce and stop hating gays thats fucked up.
Him dieing (sounds corny) actuly kinda hit me I think he was a great actor I loved all of the movies he was in he was so young. its a shame.....
vampirexfreak: 01/23/2008 1:54 PM
Well said, Bree.
I can't believe people who say he deserved to die-no one deserves to die. You can't say he deserved to die because of a role he played in a movie.
That's just stupid. >
