ONESHOT: Sweet Dreams
Enjoy!
-----
Baby, I'm not scared of you.
Well, it wasn't exactly him that she was afraid of as she hovered over him, her legs pressed against either side of his waist.
It was the fact that this entire spontaneuos event was forbidden, and she could feel the adrenaline rushing through her veins as she leaned in towards him.
His cool breath blew at her hair, brushing her bangs this way and that.
Her hands were slick with sweat as they pawed at his chest, with more force than she would have hoped, for his eyes fluttered in their sleep.
Oh God.
Please don't wake up.
To her complete relief he let out a long sigh and turned his head, and based on the resulting snores, she assumed that he had fallen back to sleep. She shifted her weight, propping herself on her hands so she wouldn't land on him - it wasn't that she was heavy, she just didn't want to take any chances.
Her head leaned forward.
The array strands of red tickled across his forehead, and she watched with some sort of amusement as a small smile inched across his face.
She had a bad habit of smiling along with other people, and consequently had to bit down on her lip in attempt not grin like a fool.
She was so close to him at this point.
Close enough to make her mind swim with a specturm of different emotions - lust, love, passion, anxiety..
It was making it hard to think straight.
Focus, Hayley.
She crept forward, feeling her heart rhythmically escalate in glee as her lips touched his. His lips were surprisingly warm in sleep; it made her shiver in aprehension.
And the shivers only increased when she felt a soft hand on her lower back:
He was waking up.
Her first thought was to flee, and act as if this entire endeavor was fantasized by Josh in his sleep. But she found at that moment that the lips beneath hers were kissing her back... almost eagerly. It was more than enough to persuade her to stay; She felt his hand reach up to tangle in her hair, and pulled her down closer. She gave a grunt as her body pressed against his, trying her hardest not to give away her location to Zac who was sleeping a mere two feet away. But Josh didn't seem to mind about the whole volume issue, pulling her mouth back to his in a hungry kiss that made her moan involuntarily. She bunched his shirt in her hands, leaving small, teasing kisses down her neck. She heard him chuckle lightly, tickling her sides until she giggled loudly.
Yeah, volume definitely wasn't an issue anymore.
She pulled away after a moment, taking in his flushed face, puckered lips and sweat-drenched skin.
"Don't stop, Hayley." He breathed softly, and it made her smile.
"Don't stop."
He repeated, and even as her lips brushed against his neck, he chuckled again and repeated.
"Don't stop, Mary."
Wait..
Mary?
"Mary, that tickles!"
Oh fuck.
Hayley groaned as she propped up in her bed, cocking her head out of her bunk to view just what she had expected: Josh hovering over another on the couch. She groaned once more and set her head back down on her pillow, trying her best to drown out the little bursts of playful laughter the two were sharing in the front lounge.
"It's seven in the morninggggg." She moaned into her pillow, and as the laughter escalated, she decided that her desire for sleep may as well just stop then and there.
She sighed, and swung her legs over the bunk.
Mary was a nice girl.
Honestly, she was. Hayley didn't really have anything against her in that sense, she really shouldn't have had anything against her at all.
She was respectful.
She was pretty.
She was sweet and had that awful habit of making Josh smile sweetly along with her.
It made Hayley's stomach turn.
It seemed almost sinful in her mind - the way jealously could distort her from a perfectly nice person to one fueled by hate. And she was definitely fueled by hate at this point.
She walked into the front lounge, hearing (with some sorf of satisfaction) the abrupt silence that greeted her.
She smiled.
"Morning Hayls." She looked over to see Josh's head peek up from behind the rise of the couch, his hair messy and his face still flushed.
Her smile dropped.
And it pushed to a deep frown when a girl popped up beside him, a giddy grin still on her fact as she ran a hand through thick blonde hair in some attempt to straighten her frazzled appearence.
It wasn't working.
"Morning Josh." Hayley mumbled, and quickly added out of politeness alone: "Hey Mary."
"Hey Hayley!" The chiper tone of her voice was enough to make her scowl deepen, her hands hastily pouring her tea with enough venom that it spilled all over the counter. Hayley mumbled incoherently under her breath as she mopped up the liquid with a paper towel, not really bothering to watch what she was doing.
She was too intent on them.
It was pathetic, really.
She had had so many chances with Josh that she had carelessly passed up. But it was, once again, another blind fault that she always wanted what she couldn't have.
"Oh shit." Hayley was suddenly alert once more when she heard Mary's voice, muffled by her face that was pressed against Josh's neck. Hayley stiffened at this.
"I have to go to work." Despite groans from both Mary and Josh, Hayley smiled, almost pleasantly as she heard Mary's footsteps trod out the door.
"Bye Hayley!" She heard the voice echo through the door, muttering a half-hearted, "Yeah, bye." as the door closed.
She sighed in relief.
She brought the hot tea to her lips, hearing soft footsteps come up behind her.
" D'you have sweet dreams?" She heard the smile in Josh's voice as he reached around her for his cereal box. It was an old habit of Josh's to always wish her 'sweet dreams' before bed; apparently it was something his family always did, and thus became a tradition for him and Hayley.
She suddenly smiled widely, still smiling as Josh walked wordlessly around her back into the front lounge.
Sweeter than you know, Josh.
Much sweeter.
