Stress, etc

So this week we had some cases of extreme frustration caused by out of the date irritating "punk" bands, the weather combined with water permeable shoes and as always school. There were also some awesome moments of Topshop, AMAZE zombie movies and some truly memorable quotes from an NUI Maynooth talk. OK, lets jump right in..

*Parent* Why are you always in such a bad mood??

*Child* Why the fuck do you think, can't have anything to do with the huge life changing exam I'm trapped studying uselessly for, the ambivalence and total lack of motivation for aforementioned exam or the fact that what I'm trapped studying for is such a waste of my time that after this year I'll never even THINK about it ever again, could it? That's far too obvious right?? Idiots...

I hate to sound so bitter and nasty all the time, but I hate the Leaving Cert even more for making me bitter and nasty!! Apparently I'm at my funniest when angry and should remain so for the enjoyment of those around me, which means I'll eventually die of high blood pressure, stomach ulcers and my brain exploding at the age of 26, but at least I'll go out laughing..

Once again most of my hilarious yet fatal material comes from my uncontainable rage at my absolutely useless Irish education. This is a language I've been learning since I was six, six, I'm now in a higher level course, about to take a Leaving Cert exam in less than seven months and the other the day I had to ask what "Meafar" meant. Seriously. (For those who don't know it means metaphor and is more or less crucial for study of Irish at higher level, poetry etc.) That's embarrassing. I really don't think I need to continue, that anecdote on it's own will hopefully express all..

But it's not just Irish causing my future death-by-stress-induced-heart-attack. Oh no. Sure that would be too easy. Anyone can deal with one awful subject.

History: One memorable class this week saw some hilarious cases of student abuse, and light discrimination and racism. Sure why wouldn't you?? After getting caught in the rain a friend of mine was described by my History teacher as looking like "a drowned rat", the ordinary level students were sent to the back of the class so as not to interfere with our intellectual task of note taking, and another student was told (by another History teacher) "Shut up, you're Spanish."

Biology: Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to

I DON'T CARE

Business Studies: I honestly don't know what the fuck is going on there. Like... Not at all.

German: Ich bin nicht so gut spreche Deutsch. Si?? Darf ich auf die toilette, bitte? BITTE???

I know there's another one, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is..

Oh it's English and Maths... That's encouraging isn't it??

The pressure is for reals starting to get to me, and the worst is I refuse to do anything to help myself. I know what I have to do but....effort? Stress makes me lie awake at night worrying about all the things I have yet to do. But during the day the importance of all these things pales in comparison to watching an ancient episode of The Simpsons/Friends/Scrubs.

And another thing, why is that the only topic of conversation people seem to associate me with now?

*Concerned Elderly Relative* So what did you learn in school today?

*Child* Well, did you know that at the tip of each man's sperm there are digestive enzymes that essentially help "eat" through the female egg? Fascinating, no?

I've now also got the tolerance of a 79 year old man. Everything sets me off. Everything. A perfect example; Green Day.

Green Day.

Oh Billie Joe, you're so anti-establishment, your perfectly gelled messy hair really shows your war against the man!! In fact your cool-guy image means I don't even have to listen to your over hyped, "Punk" songs, I can already feel myself getting more and more rebellious, I might even paint my nails black! Yeah, that'll show 'em!

DOWN WITH BUSH!

DOWN WITH AMERICA!!

................................................................................................................

One or two things, Billie...

  • I know it's not perfect, but America's foreign policies are slowly improving (thanks to Obama, not you)
  • You are American, you un-patriotic douche.
  • You're thirty-fucking-six, stop painting your nails.
  • Just stop in general.

Pink is more punk than you.

OK. On a happier more serene note...

On Sunday Topshop got hit. And hit hard. About 17 of us tagged along for Caoimhe's style advisor appointment and I honestly can't recall being in a room with that much oestrogen fuelled energy. Ever. Two hours in a contained room with six teenage girls and all the Topshop merchandise we could get our hands on, that poor, poor Style Advisor! Bless her cotton socks for putting up with us and our hyper-ness.

Then after Topshop Ellen, Michelle and myself went to see Megan "Gives Michelle A Huge Boner" Fox in Jennifer's Body. I didn't know what it was about so wasn't expecting much.

Well.

It.

Was.

Class.

The Formula for a successful Teen Zombie Flick:

  • Out of this world soundtrack including Dashboard Confessional, White Lies and Florence and the Machine.
  • Demonic Rockstars willing to sacrifice a virgin for fame.
  • A super hot combination of Adam Brody and Brandon Flowers
  • And ABSOLUTE GEMS of one liners like:

"She's actually evil, not just, like, highschool evil??"

"How could I be insecure, I was Snow Flake Queen!"

"Don't you want to be rich and famous like that guy from Maroon 5??"

So go! Go now and see it!

My own soundtrack for this week has been:

Evil - Interpol

Stolen - Dashboard Confessional

School Is Out - Regina Spektor

My First Shot at fan fics : The Assstants Job Intro.

Green Day was..well is a band from the Oakland Bay area. They are by far my faveorite band, thats why i was totally excited to get tha chance to move o california (my favorite state) to meet them. It wasn't just the chance t be able to thank Mike, Tre, and most of all Billie Joe fr (well to p it bluntly) puttig meaning in to my once dismal life with my discovery of their greatness. I was moveing to Cali. so I could maybe become an assistant to the band, a personal assistant to Mike, Tre, AND, Billie Joe!! I was beyond Words when i got the email from my best friend Andee who was moving to Oakland with me. I had been planning this move since I was 15 and now i was old enough to move. My 18t birthday was three wees ago but it took me a while to find an apartment for me ad Andee. It would take me another week to get an interveiw with Green Day set up and get packed. Andee was flying back from raceing in Florida today. I was in scrambles trying to pack

Top 5 Albums of the Year!

I know I was going to show it until December but I just could not wait! There aren't any other releases I should care about anyway (Unless The Strokes release something xD) It is only a top 5 because...there weren't much of good things this year (to me, obviously). So, I'll start right away!

5 → Tonight: Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand

Starting the countdown with one of my favorite bands ever: Franz Ferdinand (as repeated several times now). Comparing 'Tonight' with their last two works, it seems as if they've getting better and better just when I thought it was impossible and make themselves sound improved. The music is always very danceable and simply shameless. Though the lyrics might have gotten a tad obscure, but still sassy. These guys are fantastic and extremely blessed with the creativity of never repeating the same stuff over and over that actually makes sense even if it is in a kind of perverted way. I shall bow my non-existant hat to Mr. Kapranos and his remorseless mind (still remorseless, yay!)

4 → To Lose My Life... by White Lies

This is a debut from British Indie, White Lies. It's a perfect album to describe every dark feeling about death in its depth. It's melancholic just to listen to the words; they're all about losing someone you love and how one can deal with it. Which thoughts run across our heads when going through difficult times. There has been an exaggeration of new artists this year that I really don't support due to their lack of talent, let's be honest, and originality in their music. But White Lies have definitely caught my attention for being very refreshing, as it reminds me of Joy Division and the eerie vocals of Ian Curtis, and honest. They deserve a higher spot but this list has been quite a challenge to me!

3 → 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day

Currently obsessed with the album :) I really, relaly love a concept album and this one is very clear. Three acts, eighteen songs. It starts from the past century to the new age. It narrates the love story of Christian and Gloria in the fucked up society we're living in, which we've helped to create as well. There are the lyrics that no one could ever shout out so sarcastically mocking as Billie Joe in front of a massive crowd. Many people didn't like it, but I love it very much because it is a great piece that shows how a band evolves as the years pass. Change to be the best, no? It has a good message after all that everyone should listen to, especially those ones that preffer to ruin day by day the world we're living in by commiting stupidities just because of being ignorant to what really is happening around them. Better don't realize too late.

2 → Sounds of the Universe by Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode is part of my dad's music heritage and I sure keep it till today. I actually bought it yesterday since I could not resist the temptaion when I had it in my hands. I've listened to it many times before and I can say that it's an excellent album that presents the concept of how the universe can sound, how it can be so wide and diverse. It extends a variety of songs that are inspirationally dark and perverse, as usual. This is a band that I admire very much because they are still here after a long time of up's & down's, especially going up lately with this recent material. There's this joy inside me that I can blast it in the CD player so everyone nearby the house gets to realize how very crazy I've become to listen to something that it's not common enough in here. I iz proud.

And well, ladies and gentlemen, the curtain's pulled as I reveal the masterpiece in my number one spot of this amazing year.

1 → The Resistance by Muse (It's surely a slap on the face for the shock, no?)

Banking protests, a love story from a grand book, personal experiences, geo-political stuff + more of the book, a reflection about life, secrecy behind the leaders many have chosen when they're just part of the great scenario that our world is being manipulated by others, control of the human mind by the projects of those who watch us closely, a weird ol' ballad + French singing, and last but not least, a magnificent three-parts-divided symphony about the wreckage of humankind and our blindness to change until crisis arrives and there's nothing else to do but redemption. I love Muse, I love The Resistance, because it is simply brilliant. But I had this conversation today that the lyrics have gotten quite mellow and...soft in comparison of the Symmetry-Absolution era. Of course it is normal since Matthew decided to open up a little bit about his life, his personal situations, just in case of 'Undisclosed Desires', which is a beautiful outcast that resembles a drunken night whilst listening to the latest of R&B way too much. Though there exists 'Unnatural Selection', about 6 minutes long, with a powerful chanting and demanding chorus. Anyway I'm-a shut up before I ramble about each song! I'm still craving for more, but it's perfect enough to get lost in a surreal journey out of this world that basically resides in to resist in this mad world, with only love by your side.

Jesus, I still got way out of the line -.- Anyway, thanks for reading, it's a pleasure to me that you actually read my words :)

Cheers!

x

It's beautiful
I believe them
But will I ever know
The world behind my wall
Owow
The sun will shine
Like never before
One day I will be
Ready to go
See the world behind my wall (x4)

I'm ready to fall
I'm ready to crawl
On my knees to know it all
I'm ready to heal
I'm ready to feel

Take me there!
2- Rihanna "Russian Roulette"
And You can See
My Heart Beating
You Can See it through my chest

but it's too late to pick up
the value of my life

3- U2 "One"
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other

4- Jay-Z feat Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind"

In New York,
Concrete jungle where

dreams are made of,
There's nothing you

can't do,
Now you're

in New York,
these streets will make

you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
lets here it for New York,

New York, New York
Welcome to the bright light..

5- Green Day "21 Guns"
When you're at the end
of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have
taken their toll
When your mind breaks
the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins.
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
my favorite is the one of Rihanna :)
xoxo

Green Day Review Part 1.

Are we the waiting…

On October the 5th was finally the day I waited all my life for. So it was a really weird feeling that I wasn’t excited at all. It was so unbelievable and surreal that I just couldn’t believe I would really see Green Day after all this years of being a huge fan of them.

Since the show wouldn’t take place in my hometown my mum and I had to drive to Cologne a bit early. It was raining like shit when we arrived in Cologne. A few diehard fans waited in front of the arena. We hadn’t a reason to wait in line that early cause we had seats anyway. So instead of waiting at the arena we walk around through the rain while waiting for my good friend Leila to join us. When she finally arrived we went to a café to chill out with some coffee and cake. Leila was so scared of me cause I was so relaxed and not hysterical in anyway.

We made our way to the arena at 6pm when they opened the doors. Holy shit I can’t tell you how fucking big this arena was and all these ppl with their Green Day shirts on, that was pretty cool. We checked out the nice merch but we didn’t buy some cause yeah I’m first really broke and on the other hand I already have so much Green Day stuff. We still had to wait for them to open the doors to the seat and standing area, so we just walked around for a while. Around 6.30pm they opened the doors and we searched for our seats. I was a little bit shocked how close we actually were to the stage but wasn’t still too excited, so I was shocked by this as well. There were so many seats and the standing area was pretty big as well, but ppl moved in pretty slow and bit by bit it got crowed. At some point we saw a small dude with black hair and two blonde highlights checking the guitars behind the stage, we were like OMG is that Billie Joe!?!?! We got nuts, I don’t think it was him but I’m still not sure at all.

At 7.30pm the support act Prima Donna popped on stage and start to rock the show. They were pretty cool but the sound was pretty fucked up that my ears start to hurt. I think it wasn’t the band’s fault, maybe the crew just fucked it up or they wanted Green Day to sound even better. The arena was pretty empty at this time and things didn’t get that crazy. You can describe their music as Rock’n’Roll with a glamour rock touch. The singer was really born as a performer and looked so cool with those tight pants together with this leopard coat. The highlight was when he throw up his coat and was half naked (he didn’t wear a shirt under the coat O_O). I have to say this view wasn’t that bad. :D They played a few songs but everybody was just waiting for Green Day to start. When the singer said that they would play their last song everyone was freaking out not because they were that bad but cause it meant Green Day would be next. I felt their pain it must sucked to support Green Day. ;) Watch how they performed "Soul Stripper" here. The sound on you tube is better as it was live.

When they left the stage it was already 8pm and I start to get really nervous when I saw the crew setting up the stage. The stage looked so awesome with this big wall of LSD screens looking like buildings. So the crew did their job well and then the famous pink bunny popped on stage. At this point it felt like watching a you tube video or Bullet In A Bible (the live concert DVD). I saw this so many times, when ppl were singing along to YMCA while the bunny was ex-ing a beer on stage, but being a part of all this was so out of this world. He entertained us for a while till he was escorted by some security guards. lol

Then we’re waiting again and my legs were already shaking, it was like waiting for death to come. Things got nuts and suddenly the light was out and the Song of the Century was blasting. Leila was like OMG the show starts let’s get our asses up, I can’t sit any longer. I was so shocked that the show would start in a few seconds and my legs were shaking so much that I could hardly stand.

Then… BOOM… out of nowhere Billie Joe, Mike Dirt, Tre Cool, Jason Freese and Jason White popped up on stage. OMG this is GREEN DAY was the only thing I was thinking. Leila was freaking out and rocked to 21st Century Breakdown while I was so overwhelmed that I was just crying of happiness.

I finally realize this isn’t just a dream this is REAL. It was like seeing the ghosts of long lost friends coming alive in front of you. I couldn’t believe those are really the guys I look up to for so long and who gave me so much strength with their music. It was such a incredible feeling that I still have to cry when I think about it and write all this down.

... stay tuned

My Favorite Ten Bands

My top ten... I love these people. I actually have a favorite song list, my Fave 500, but that wouldn't fit. Number one is, surprisingly, a tie.

10. The Academy Is...

TAI... is not your average band of twentysomething indie rockers. Well, yes, they are twentysomethings, but they are far from average. William Beckett started writing songs for himself because he didn't like what was on the radio. One, YES. I despise the radio (minus a select few stations) because they'll play the crap out of a good song until you hate it. Two, that's why I write songs! This man WINS! Then, he and Siska started what is the awesome magicalness of The Academy Is (later adding the...)

But enough about the history.

This band is great. Their music channels, like, everything shiny in the world. Which means, basically, their music is happiness in disguise. It's pretty much AWESOME. It makes me think, and it makes me happy, which is what I want out of music.

9. Fall Out Boy

I've been a fan of this band ever since I heard "Dead on Arrival" when I was seven. Fall Out Boy has mentored some of the beastiest bands, not to mention, ther've released some really beasty albums. The reason that I think Fall Out Boy appeals to me (and a vast majority of Americans) is that they're so timely. They're so focused on making such original music for the present that it's unbelievable. If I were to pick up Take This To Your Grave in five years, I'd probably believe it was still '03.

6. My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is probably the most honest of the bands on this list. They address angst in such a way that you can actually believe that they have somehow captured it, and turned it into music. Plus, they have some pretty sweet guitar riffs that are impossible to forget.

5. The Spill Canvas

The Spill Canvas appeals to me, but my favorite thing about them is I have no idea why I love them so much. My song of the moment has changed a lot over the past week, but most of the time, it's been by The Spill Canvas. I think that's why I like them so much. I don't know why I love them, yet that's exactly the reason why.

4. We Shot The Moon

I found this band on MySpace, and it is very, very rarely that you find this sort of talent online. They write some of the best songs I've ever heard. I might be biased, seeing as I am a fan of piano rock, but I don't think that you will disagree with me once you listen to them. They are a very indie band, but this makes it all the more better because they don't perform in huga arenas, and tickets are inexpensive, sometimes even free. One word: amazing.

3. Paramore

Paramore was one of my favorite bands from the beginning. I must admit, the fact that they have a chick lead singer adds a few cool points, but their music is just plain awesome, something you don't find all the time these in bands consisting of younger people. I mean, seriously, listen to the crap they play on the radio by younger bands, then listen to Paramore. The difference is clear.

2. Green Day

Green Day is a legend, despite the fact that they are an actual band of actual people. They write music that's so different from anything these days, but yet it is so understandable, which is what makes it amazing. These guys are making original music in the time when it's most needed. But, what I think is the best thing about Green Day is that they have the ability to keep their old fans, and get thousands of new ones everytime they let out an album. When a band has let out so many albums, and still has the potential to gather even more fans everytime they let out a new one, it's amazing.

1. Panic! at the Disco

(*You may notice that the two bands tied for #1 both have black and white photos. At first, it was coincidence, but I decided it separated them from the rest of the list, so just think of it that way.)

This may sound like I'm overreacting, but I'm not. Panic! at the Disco has saved my life on more than one occasion, and I'm sure that they've saved the lives of many people, too. Their music is inspiring and I love it so much. They have changed and grown up so much as artists, and I love the way that they make their music the way that they want to. It is so great to see a band that makes music so different from anyone else, and just keeps on doing what they love, regardless of what anybody says. They are truly awesome.

1. Led Zeppelin

They haven't made music since 1980, about 15 years before I was even born, and yet I am proud to say that they are one of my number one favorite bands. Led Zeppelin is probably one of the best, if not, the best, rock band of all time. This fact is proved because every kid I have ever talked to about Led Zeppelin knows who they are. The music has lived on for thirty years, and I can assure you, it will never, ever die. All four of the members, John Bonham, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant were equally important to the band, and this is why, after Bonham's death, they could not continue. Led Zeppelin rocked the world like no one had, before, and since. Don't believe me? Listen to "Stairway to Heaven", it is possibly one of the most mindblowing rock n roll songs of all time.

I (had) the time of my life..

Ok sooo, On Wednesday last a couple of friends and I went to a Green Day concert..It was...AMAZING!
They were playing in the O2 in dublin, which may i say is a great new venue!!
Those guys are so great live, they were so interactive with the crowd not to mention bring about 6 people up
onstage to either sing, shoot the crowd with a water gun, stage dive and what not...
One of the girls they brought up was only around 10 or something, she was so cute,
dressed up as a wee devil. Their setlist was really good, opening with "Song of the century", playing a mixture
of all their well known songs before ending with "Time of your life".
Before they came out Prima Donna warmed up the crowd followed by a pink bunny rabbit
who was "drunk". Carrying 2 bottles of beer out with him he chugged them down as the crowd chanted
him to do so.. It was the randomist thing i had ever seen but yet sooo entertaining!!!
The show was filled with crazy pyrotechnics, confettii, and many types of strange guns which shot
out every thing from toilet paper to t-shirts!
The crowd varied from people the age of around 8 to people in their late 50's or earily 60's i'd say!
Old fans and new!

A picture of the drunk bunny rabbit lol
Sorry it's abit far away, I was up on the balcony. I was glad to have seat becausepeople were quing all day in the rain to get
a good view, im so glad we didnt have to!!

Water gun timeeeeeeee!!!!
The weird tee-pee gun thing!!

and last but not least....
