Glasgow Smile
Originating in Glasgow, Scotland, the Glasgow Smile is where the victim is cut from the ends of their mouth to their ears, forming what looks like a smile (hence the name) and then is often kicked or stabbed so that their face rips apart when the victim screams. The nicknames Chelsea Smile and Chelsea Grin came from Chelsea, London, England where the form of torture/murder became most popular between rival gangs. Anna Grin is also another nickname for the malicious practice, but the origination of the nickname is unsure. The most famous case of the Glasgow Smile is the Black Dahlia murder, where the victim, Elizabeth Short, was discovered on January 15, 1947, in a vacant lot in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, severely mutilated, cut in half, and drained of blood. Her face was slashed from the corners of her mouth toward her ears, and she was posed with her hands over her head and her elbows bent at right angles.
