December 10, 2008Discussion: The Weirdest Baby Names of 2008Courtesy of: Yahoo.com -Remember the uproar over Gwyneth Paltrow naming her daughter Apple? That seems downright quaint in 2008. Check out the new additions in the category of quirkiest baby names: ___ BRONX MOWGLI: This year's most unusual moniker, courtesy of Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. He grew up near Chicago and she hails from Texas -- yet, inexplicably, the rock-star couple named their son after one of the toughest boroughs in New York City. Giving some insight, Wentz revealed the middle name Mowgli was inspired by the scrappy boy hero of Disney's "The Jungle Book." ___ SUNDAY ROSE: Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed their baby girl on a Monday, then named her for the day before. Kidman has said Sunday is the couple's favorite day of the week because it can be both lonely and happy depending on whether "you've got your family" around. They also found inspiration in Aussie art collector Sunday Reed, whose first name Kidman's father suggested as a possibility. The baby's second name is a tribute to Urban's grandmother, Rose. ___ ZUMA NESTA ROCK: When he's old enough, Gwen Stefani's baby boy might want to change his first name to something that sounds less like a certain clear malt beverage and lose the other two names altogether. Then again, a child raised by music royalty -- Stefani and hubby Gavin Rossdale -- might fully embrace a moniker that spells nothing but embarrassment for regular kids. Stefani grew up in Southern California and loves Jamaican culture, which might explain her choice of Zuma (a beach in Malibu) and Nesta (the middle name of reggae legend Bob Marley). ___ HONOR MARIE: An honorable mention -- sorry, we couldn't resist -- goes to the daughter of Jessica Alba and her husband, Cash Warren. Honor should get a lifetime of instant respect, based on her first name alone. Latin in origin, Honor means "woman of honor" and denotes glory, dignity and high rank. ___ BUSTER TIMOTHY: The name Buster has been around a long time -- all the way back to the silent film era when comic actor Buster Keaton used sight gags to get laughs. The moniker struck a chord with married actors Jonny Lee Miller and Michele Hicks, who chose to name their son Buster Timothy. The couple balanced the quirkiness with a way more traditional second name.
Now let's just hope that Gerard Way and Lyn-Z will NOT give their baby a weird name! And, thankfully, the handsome Mark Walhberg doesn't have weird names for his kids. =) And let me hear your thoughts on this! Are there any other celebrity baby's that have weird baby names that make you wanna blurt out "WTFOMG!!??" *cough*Zahara*cough*? XD [and i'll parden Surie Cruise...for some reason..i'm fine with it? but if you wanna list it, go ahead!]

August 22, 2008Gossip Journal 47: In which Gwen Stefani has a baby![]() I had like, another baby?! Cool! Cause, Love Music Angel BABY Gwen gave birth, at last, to a boy. MSNBC reports: Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale weighed 8 pounds and 5 ounces when he was born Thursday afternoon, according to publicist Dave Tomberlin. They named it fucking WHAT?!? ZUMA NESTA ROCK!!?? I thought the British didn't let you do that... oh wait, that's where Apple was born...Mother and baby are fine, relaxing for the time being. People gives us a more in depth explanation of this totally stupid name: Computer game aficionados may remember Zuma, a popular 2004 video game from PopCap Games. Zuma required players to remove balls rolling around the computer screen by firing a colored ball at them before they filled up the screen. A more likely name inspiration? Malibu's famous Zuma Beach, a favorite destination for parents Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and big brother Kingston. The beach, famous for its surfable waves, was the inspiration for Neil Young's album Zuma, making the locale a bona-fide musical landmark. And then there's Nesta, Zuma's middle name. Gwen and Gavin, avid Bob Marley fans, probably took a cue from the late singer's middle name, which was also Nesta.... Zuma's second middle name, Rock, might be a nod to Rock Steady, the third studio album from Stefani's band No Doubt. Rock Steady was primarily recorded in Jamaica and featured a reggae-heavy sound, rounding out the Bob Marley love for the musical clan. (source) ![]() Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, Rhianna and Carrie Underwood are joining forces for a charity record called Just Stand Up. Produced by baby face, and proceeds will go to Stand Up To Cancer, this thing that Hollywood is doing. They will perform it live on September 5th as part of the Stand Up To Cancer telethon that CBS, ABC and NBC are doing. Speaking of Rhianna, she, Paramore, Pink and T.I are slated to perform at the VMA's, fucking SCORE. And to legitimize my excitement about this we bring you: ![]() Arianrhod and Newageamazon Live Blog the VMA's, YAY!!! ![]() If we move slowly enough Papa Jo won't notice that we're leaving Pete and Ashlee are looking at east coast homes to raise their family. I smell breaking with papa Joe coming! I mean how can he control every aspect of her life if she's living on the other side of the country!? Ashlee, 23, told a pal she was "bored of Hollywood and looking to find a place in NYC." The singer, who is expecting her first child with Fall Out Boy hubby Pete, 29, wants her baby to be grounded and believes an East Coast upbringing would make that possible. "Plus," the friend adds, "They're trying to find a place in Chicago as well so Pete can be close to his family!" (source) ![]() I could be creepy Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn are expecting twin girls, and I can't tell if Jerry is being cute or creepy when he jokes about the days when they will be dating: "I'm just going to raise a couple of assassins," he added. "They're going to be tough chicks!" But O'Connell will be strict. "They are only having sex when I die," O'Connell he said. "If they don't date boys at all, and just want to be infatuated with their father, that is what I am really going for." (source) They also joked about naming the twins Mary-Kate and Ashley... which seems like a TERRIBLE idea...

July 17, 2008So WeirdI just got back from Chicago the other day. In 5 days I saw SO much music, bands, and people that mean a lot to me. I went out for Absentstar. The first night at The Metro, they went on SUPER fucking late (around 12am which to me is 1am) and after a busy day before and flying I was tired!!!! But it was fucking worth it to me. So the turn out wasn't quite what I expected but when they were onstage performing I couldn't have been in such a better place. Right there, I might as well have sat on the stage lol!! Right in front of Noel, a little bewteen Andy, where I'm used to being. Can I tell you there could have been a 3eb crowd worth of people and I wouldn't have noticed. 2nd night we went to Grand Rapids for Absentstar. That was a fun show, very interesting mix. I got to see Marie Digby who I loved. I had her cd already and had only found out right before I left she was playing! Not something I listen to all the time but a cd I really like. I'm not even going to get into Push Play. Absentstar's set was awesome that night, I could hear them (well minus the high pitch squeeling screech of this one little girl or so). The set was short but I enjoyed it, I love me some Absentstar, still can't explain to people why so much and why so fast, I don't expect anyone to understand, well you music lovers here I'm sure. When there's that something you just can't put your finger on but you want to shout from the rooftops of NYC "I fucking love this band and you should to!!!!!!" that's me and the Absentstar. Sunday...Sunday Sunday!!! Can we talk about this free Gavin Rossdale show at the HOB in Chicago. I am a HUGE Bush fan, I have been since out of high school, probably as long as 3eb but not on as such an extreme level lol. Well let me tell you. Not only is Gavin Rossdale the hottest fucking sexiest piece of ass I've ever seen (seriousy, if I had to pick between him and Bert...which we all know I think is the hotness, all for Gavin) but he put on an amazing show!!!Played 6 Bush songs, and damn good ones. Comedown, Swallowed, Glycerine (yes I totally teared up on that), Chemicals Between Us, ohhhhh and I can't rememeber the other 2 songs! His new stuff is okay but that man has a voice on him that is wonderful!! Songs sounded like I expected them to and thensome. Monday I fly home, to Tuesday. the Alkaline Trio Adventure. Basically y friend won tickets to see A3 do an acousitc radio performance, she had no idea who they were, neither did most of the people in the room. But it was brilliant, and the guys were the nicest ever!! And they invited us out to the show that night since it was sold out! Like I just had the most amazing time over the past few days with all the music. Now I'm back at work and it's...I can't even go into what I have to deal with. But I do want to share how I got back yesterday with tons of stuff I know I have to do and I stood here, and as I am now, I feel empty, incomplete, lost, shallow, and like something is missing in my life. And i think it's the music. I could care less about the scene, honestly, I could be all into it, i'm just not. I can't stand the fakeness most of the time even though I've made some extremly good friends in lots of bands over the years. And i don't take rejection well lol. Like trying to do shit for Absentstar, I'm so used to having the silver spoon of being Miss 3eb in my mouth and with other bands shit being just...there and having support that I'm like "this is fun, and a fucking challenge" but I can't get answers that I want and don't understand why things are the way they are. Man if I could put nearly as much time and effort as I would like to (oh and someone paying my salary) into just them it'd be nice lol!! Even though I am totally right back out to Chicago in less than a month to see them again (what, American Airlines has a hub between Philly and O' hare and flights are hella decent!!) It's 10:30am and I really really really should be in my store on the floor and not in the backroom typing up this blog.
*sigh* her empty unhappy shallowness M

April 1, 2008Gavin Rossdale returns with solo LPGavin Rossdale makes headlines these days when he's spotted out and about in L.A. with his wife, Gwen Stefani, but rock fans know him best as the former leader of Bush, the '90s alt-rock juggernaut that had 10 big singles and sold more than 10 million albums. Following a two-year hiatus that came after the band broke up in 2002, Rossdale went on to form Institute, a short-lived rock group that released one album, Distort Yourself, in 2005. Now Rossdale is back again, but this time he's keeping it simple: The singer/guitarist has crafted his first solo record, Wanderlust, and is releasing it in June. Last week Buzznet caught up with the man himself to pick his brain about his new project, Gwen's appearance on it, whether Bush will ever get back together and more. Buzznet: Why did you decide to call this a "solo album," if you're working with other musicians on it? Does this get at the essence of you in a way the Institute album didn't? Gavin Rossdale: Yes, it’s ironically called a solo record when it’s clear that other people are involved. Maybe it means I am the only one responsible for it. Being in Bush was everything to me, and I hope to re-ignite that fire someday. I am really proud of the Institute record and the music we made. It had some pretty heavy moments. What I liked about WANDERLUST is that I had a lot of ground I wanted to return to that I had forsaken with the heavier, detuned style. I like to refer to it as my “tin machine” period. Good — but heavy. I have tried to put my essence in every record I have made. This happens to be a different essence. Buzznet: When you formed Institute, you said you were going after a softer approach than what Bush had delivered. What's your angle with your solo album? Rossdale: Originally, the demos for Institute were softer – perhaps I was trying to escape my guitar – and then the consensus was to go heavier than Bush so I ended up with Institute. With the solo record it was about being more universal and dubbier, which basically means modifying the guitars and allowing the music to breathe more. I wanted to have a situation where different musicians come in and play, and then Bob Rock and I would sift through the options. I like studio options. You get great accidents. Buzznet: Who's in your new band? Rossdale: Pretty much the same band that played in the studio, apart from a new drummer, Zachary Alford, who I first met when Bush opened for Bowie in South America. It starts, as usual, for me with Chris Traynor, who has played with me for awhile now. Then Josh Freese, who is not only a friend but a pretty good drummer and not a bad dresser. I asked him who his favorite bass player was – that’s Paul Bushnell – and on keyboards we have Jamie Muhoberac, who has played with me on every record since Bush's 2001 album, GOLDEN STATE. Clearly, I like continuity. And live, this has been the band, apart from Josh. Buzznet: Can we expect any guest appearances from your 1-year-old son, Kingston, or, um, other family members on the LP? Rossdale: Kingston is not on the record and the Mrs. sings some real nice stuff on “Some Days.” Otherwise, nothing but support from those guys. Buzznet: Were you tempted to release a solo disc previously, before forming Institute? Why is now the right time? Rossdale: I did a lot of thinking on this one. The Institute record could have been a solo record or released under my name. But the record came out like such a band, and the music was clearly a band sound. So I decided to dedicate a couple of months of my life to thinking of a band name, which is a lot harder than you think. Institute was closest to a prostitute. Buzznet: Is there any "in-house" competition yet in terms of being a solo artist? Are any ideas about music freely exchanged, or is that subject rarely discussed? Rossdale: All ideas are freely exchanged; we love that old communication stuff. Competition? Now that wouldn’t be helpful, would it? We leave the competition for the outside world. Buzznet: Who would make an ideal tour partner for your solo project (we're guessing it's not Dance Gavin Dance)? Rossdale: I have always enjoyed picking great music to tour with. That way, you can see a really good band night after night. A dream sound? Cat Power, Underworld, Llasa de Sala. Buzznet: What advice would you give to young bands like Paramore, Fall Out Boy and/or Panic at the Disco? Rossdale: I doubt they need or want my advice. My advice to myself, however, is to keep writing, keep pushing, and to never lose sight of the road there Buzznet: Do you have any other ventures on tap? Rossdale: Hands full right now. It’s been a journey and a half just to get to this point. I am going to enjoy this process and being back out there. In the world of people who dig music. Check out this video trailer for Wanderlust!

April 4, 2007Gwen Stefani: Even Her Step Kid Has Style![]() The world was not surprised when fashion natural Gwen Stefani gave birth to the best-dressed child on the planet. It was no surprise that little Kingston wore his diapers with more flair than half the stylist-arrayed tastemakers on MTV. After all, he had been blessed with the genes of Stefani. But how to explain the sharp-eyed outfitting of 18-year-old Daisy Lowe? As Just Jared reports, a 2004 DNA test proved that Daisy's dad is Gwen's husband, British rock star Gavin Rossdale. Technically, Daisy is a stepdaughter to Gwen; but could there have been a transference of fashion savvy without any kind of blood relation? A more likely source for Daisy's individual and fetching clothing decisions is her mother, Pearl Lowe, a London fashion designer. We Smoke Fags "Passion for Fashion"
