ONE

ONE

I know that since Bono's involved, you may think that's the only reason I care about the One campaign... If you haven't made your voice heard, please take the chance to to so.. this week is the G8 summit and they are meeting in Scotland NOW.

What is the goal of The ONE Campaign?
The ONE Campaign seeks to give Americans a voice, to ring church bells and cell phones, on campuses and in coffee shops, for an historic pact to fight the global AIDS emergency and end extreme poverty. We believe that allocating an additional ONE percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food, would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation of the poorest countries.

I'm all for charity, but until the world's poorest countries start paying our taxes, they will have to settle for World Bank, IMF and UN contributions. Government funds are already spent on those organizations, with an intent to help the poorest nations. More could certainly be spent here, especially on education, but the 20 years it would take to make results is well beyond the political payoff period.

"i guess we've done enough for world hunger and poverty....let's not try to do more..."

It appears that everyone is getting involved. But i'm afraid i have no more time for other charities as the charity that supports my daughter gets all my free time and money.(the Childrens liver disease foundation)

too many causes! i'm doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on Saturday and Sunday. Personally, I can't stand the ONE campaign commercial. I could barely pay attention to what all the celebs were saying because i was so weirded out by that wide angle thing they were doing...

Okay.. just to clarify-they are not asking for money directly from you... and in spite of bad advertising-the AIDS crisis is just overwhelmingly bleak in Africa. Solving abject poverty, giving access to clean water and countries the chance to make a better life for themselves can only benefit all of us in the long run. Just wanted to remind you-- if you haven't checked it out- to go to their site and decide for yourself if this is something you want to support. Regular photos returning soon!
