Mascara Clump.

so many people who have been around me, being friends, family or

complete strangers ask me what mascara i use.

now i look at them dead in the eye and say

"ive never used mascara, pinky swear"

at time people believe me then others they have to feel my eyelashes...i win.

Now why am i telling you this?

well, the next question always goes

"wow i want eyelashes like that...but i don't even know how to apply mascara"

and thankfully with experience from my mother i know great

mascaras that truly work and the best way to learn!

First stop, LETS FIND A GREAT MASCARA!

Now you dont have to spend loads of money on makeup in general to look great,

i have a Dior eyeliner that was 45 dollars! it sucks bad.

Thats money wasted on a label not a product.

So here's some mascaras that are amazing and cheap!

Five Favorite Mascara's

Number one:

Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara

Not only is this amazing but it's only $6.50 and can be fine at any drug store.

My mom loves waterproof mascara's because when she cries over a cheesy

soap oprea, it wont smudge!

Number two:

Maybelline XXL Volume + Length

My little sister is OBESSED! with this one, she always buys doubles so

she wont get a panic attack when it finishes.

This can be also found at your drug store which is always a plus.

The con thing about it tho, the wand [this is the end of the stick where you would apply]

is short and it doesnt really give the WOW factor, i would suggest this for people who

have medium lashes, not thin or short.

Number three:

 Lancome Fatale

Okay so this may be a little pricey but i can say, it's totally worth it. It sells for $21.00,

but if you want super INTENSE length then this is for you, my mom said

that she can almost feel it brushing her eyebrows, haha and i can totally see why,

she looked like a doll.

Number four:

 Cover Girl Lash Exact Mascara

So im sure that anyone that you know has one, or you have seen

over 100,000 commericals and MISS Tyra Banks herself talking about it. People

love the way it separates their lashes.

There has to be a reason why everyone keeps getting it...cause it's sooo good!

This one is great for a night out or a date, even better a quick wake up call when test are around

and we look like...shall i say...crap?...ya

Oh and its realllly cheap too!

Number five:

MAC Pro Lash Mascara

its rather reasonable priced compared to drugstore mascaras, it's only $13.00.

This mascara was first used on runways and only makeup artist were allowed to buy them,

until they used it to the genaral public awhile ago.

MAC Prolash mascara is not too heavy or to light. For a more of a natural look,

apply one coat. Now for a dramtic/sexy look apply more coats .

Makeup Application Tips : How to Apply Mascara

So i found this great video on how to apply mascara for people

who are scared that they might poke a eyeball or something, haha dont worry

this video will help you.

Well i hope this helped you, if you have any questions, be sure to ask!

what is your favorite mascara?

ONA interviews Hush Hush Commotion!

Hush Hush Commotion was one of Of New Astronomy's first bands to sponsor.  I met them through my old band and recognized their drive and smart work ethic in the music scene.  I got the chance to interview keyboardist/guitarist Chris Lusk, and here's what came of it!

So who does what in the band and how would you describe your sound?

CHRIS: Well, Scott sings, Andy plays guitar, Dan plays bass, Adam drums, and I play keys and guitar. As far as describing our sound, I would have to say that we play energetic indie pop with a southern swagger.

As a band, what would you guys say is your favorite part of the whole experience?

CHRIS: I’m really not sure which is my favorite part. I really love touring, but I also love the writing and recording process too. But, if I have to give you a single answer, I would have to say my favorite part is getting to experience things and visit places that I wouldn’t ever get to. Being in this band has allowed me to do a lot of really cool things.

Let's talk about the writing process. I've read a lot of band interviews and they never go over this! How do you guys go about writing your songs?  How was writing for the new EP "In Control" different from your last CD?

CHRIS: I think the biggest thing we try to do with our writing process is to slow down and take our time. Some bands sit around and crank out dozens and dozens of songs, and then weed out the ones they aren’t satisfied. Us, on the other hand, we pour so much attention and effort into the details that if we aren’t happy with a piece of a song, we will scrap it and start over. This makes for a slow process, but at the end of the day we are happy with all of our final products.

As far as the actual process of writing, Andy will typically come with a riff idea and we will slowly build off of it and begin to toy around with structure ideas. We are always helping each other out with ideas and we make all of our songs a collective effort. Normally, we build upon our ideas by writing most of the music and coming up with a couple melody ideas. Then, Scott will take a rough recording home and get the melody tweaked and put words to it. And then, we play with it for a while and make more changes until we finally feel comfortable to play it live. It’s always fun to listen to early recordings of our song ideas and compare them to the album version — we are constantly changing and updating our ideas.

We have used this formula for both albums now. The big difference between the old CD and “In Control” was our mindset going in to the process. With “It Could Happen,” we felt this pressure to release something quickly and to write songs that people would like. As a result, we didn’t get to spend time much time on it — “It Could Happen” was written, recorded and released all within five months. With the new album, we sat down and told each other that we wanted to write music that was pure and honest. As cheesy as it sounds, we decided we needed to write music for ourselves and not for mass appeal. That’s not to say we don’t want people to like our music, but we felt we had to be honest to ourselves first and then, hopefully, the music would be well received.

To put it bluntly, we had grown sick and tired of all the cookie-cutter, generic bands that were forming around the country and we didn’t want to be grouped into that scene. A lot of people have taken our feelings about this incorrectly. We’re not against pop music. We like pop music and we still play pop music. We just hate the lack of creativity that seems to be swirling around the current pop scene.

I'm really digging this new southern (or is it western?) guitar twang that pops up every once in awhile in the new EP!  What sparked this?

CHRIS: Well we live in Oklahoma and we’re surrounded by a lot of southern exposure. Not to mention we are heavily influenced by bands like Kings of Leon, Wilco, Limbeck and others. I think a big thing is we started applying more blues and roots-rock styles into our writing. We like infusing those with our pop sensibilities and seeing what we can create.

Chris, what kind of toothpaste do you use?  : p

CHRIS: I have no idea. Haha. I don’t really care, so I just grab whatever. I think right now I have Crest? Maybe?

You guys recently played Sing It Or Scream It Fest in OKC. We don't see too many shows like this in Oklahoma. What did you think of the show and how did you get set up with this?

CHRIS: Sing It or Scream It Fest was a really cool opportunity to play for a big crowd and we felt very fortunate to be asked to play. It was a lot of fun to see so many different bands — both national and local — together in one building. We’ve always enjoyed playing festivals, but it was really cool to play one in our own backyard.

What would you say are some of the things that influence the music as a band?

CHRIS: Musically, we draw from a wide range of influences including Kings of Leon, Limbeck, Wilco, Say Anything, Regina Spektor, Conor Oberst, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, The Format, John Mayer, August Burns Red, Everybody Else, and many more.

What's the craziest thing that's happened on tour?

CHRIS:  That’s hard to say, we’ve had a lot of crazy things happen in a ton of places. There’s so many different levels of “crazy” that it’s hard to choose just one. Plus, some of our stories may not be suitable for publish! Haha. Let’s just say that being a touring band is incredible because every day is a new adventure and with my band being the way we are…we always find ways to have a good time, no matter what kind of circumstances.

You guys seem to be very active personally with your street team. How is that going and how important is this to the functionality of your band?

CHRIS: Our street team is incredibly important to the band and we owe our members a ton of thanks. HHC_HQ (Hush Hush Commotion Headquarters) was set up my good friend Lauren Hartley, who has been friends with the guys in the band for years. Having the street team is a really cool thing that allows us to get to know our most devoted fans and interact with them on a more personal level. We try to have monthly meetings so we can fill them in on what we’re up to, give them sneak peaks at new merch designs, or even let them hear samples of new songs we’re working on. The benefit for us is we have a good network of fans we can rely on to help us promote. Whether it’s helping passing out fliers or just talking to their friends about us, our street team members are so good to us. In fact, every time we go on tour they get together and buy us a bunch of snacks and drinks to take on the road. This last tour we went on, I think I survived an entire month on the snacks they got for us. Like I said, we owe Lauren and the HHC_HQ members a ton!

Pop tarts or toaster strudels?

CHRIS: I’m not a huge fan of processed breakfast pastries in general, but I’ll go with pop tarts on this one.

Any final thoughts or last words?

CHRIS: We’re just really grateful for Of New Astronomy apparel for all the support you show to Hush Hush Commotion and we just want you to know that your shirts are the coolest! The rumors are true: HHC loves ONA!

And ONA <3's HHC too.  Awwww.  You can check out Hush Hush Commotion on myspace at www.myspace.com/hushhushcommotion and their songs can be found on iTunes!  Or you can catch them live, rocking ONA on the stage!

Fashionista: FURry fuzzy faux!

It's getting close to winter! Cold weather, long nights, the spirit of the holidays...time for you fashion bunnys to get cozy and wrap yourself up in...fur coats?

Oh, the great fur debate. We all know where I stand on this—I do consider myself somewhat of an animal rights activist & I shudder at the thought that in this year 2009, there are still people and designers ESPECIALLY that think its okay to still wear and use real fur in their collections. Animal fur looks better on the animal, simple as that—and not to get too controversial in such a hot subject already, but do you know where most new fur comes from and how its collected? Google it if you have the guts and prepare to have your heart broken.

Personally, "vintage" fur is just as bad and it really saddens me to see people and runways sport any sort of authentic fuzz—and although I have been called a hypocrite for being so against real fur and loving FAUX fur, I most definitley do not see it that way. The point of this weeks fashion feature is to focus on FAKING IT. Faux is the only acceptable way to rock the fuzzy look by my standards. Feel free to disagree, complain, & voice all your arguments in the comment box below...

Here are a few of my personal favorite faux fur pieces that I would rock any day of the week!

Vintage style faux fur coat $250 @ topshop.com

Love love love the length. pair with leggings and ankle boots and you're set!

Jeremy Scott Faux Furry FLINSTONES dress, available spring2010 @ jeremyscott.com

Posted about this before and posting about it again! GENIUS!

LOVE THIS ONE! Calbourne faux fur jacket lauren by Ralph Lauren $499 @ bloomingdales.com

(Considering this is a RL piece, I'm pretty surprised this model isn't photoshopped to have a 10inch waist. But i also assume RL fired her after this shoot for being "overweight" yeah?)

Handmade faux fur skirt @ weardrobe.com

...loving the where the wild things are take on this photo! such a cute skirt.

Krok the blue furry monster backpack $60 @ etsy.com

...Okay maybe I'm the only one crazy enough to sport this, but hooowww cuuuute! I would totally wear this out. MUST HAVE! Taking faux fur to the cutest level ever!

Furry animal ring $8 @ etsy.com

Rein Peppard TAKE NOTES! THIS is the way to rock animal heads as accessories...recycled craft feathers, googley eyes, and recycled wood. I think these are way cute!

Bombshell faux fur jacket $120 @ karmaloop.com

MaryKate and Ashley need to get some of this in their closets!! Super cute with a party dress and tights =]

Yeti boots by Roxy $39 @ roxy.com

...FAVORITE!! I have loved the polar bear feet look for so long, but its been hard to find a pair that is 100% faux. I'm typically not a fan of Roxy clothing but they get a giant gold star for putting these out. Must order asap!! Way better than the Koolaburra ones!

What are some of your favorite furry items??? My only tip is- don't wear faux fur all at once! You'll look like a wookie ;)

And now for the big question...Real fur ( :[ ) , or FAUX fur ( :D ) ??  Comment & let me know!

ScarletMadeline's Makeup Mastermind: The Guy-Liner Trend is SO over! The Transformation of Pete, Trace and Davey in 2009.

ScarletMadeline's Makeup Mastermind: The Guy-Liner Trend is SOO Over! The Transformation of Pete, Trace and Davey in 2009.

In the last few months it seems like the guyliner trend is going OUT the door. It seems like as the most popular guyliner trend followers are getting out the eye makeup remover as they get older.

PETE WENTZ

BEFORE: Now I cant say anything about Pete and his guyliner, because he always has looked great (in my opinion). Pete is THE trend setter (of our generation) when it comes to men's eye makeup. Although, I have to admit that I have never been a big fan of guys in makeup, even Pete's.

AFTER: Last month Pete Wentz had his head shaved on stage. Since that night it really seems like Petey's look has drastically changed (in a darn good way). He looks so clean cut and mature! This is why men shouldn't wear eye liner, because they look SOO much better without it.

DAVEY HAVOK

BEFORE: Now I think we all know how I feel about this mess of a look on Davey. Im sorry, but long finger nails, smokey eyes and lace finger decore will never be attractive to me.. SO THANK GOODNESS THAT IS OVER!

AFTER: It seems like with the release of AFI's new album, Davey has reinvented himself. I never thought that I would say this, but Davey got hot! Im digging the scruffy face and short nails. I especially like that he looks like a GUY! I may have to go see AFI now to see his marvelous transformation in real life!

TRACE CYRUS

BEFORE: I am a definitely a Metro Station fan.. I mean really, who doesn't like to shake it? Trace is a good looking boy but I was NOT into the eyeliner he use to wear. It was just pushing the stereotypical "scene kid" look too far.

AFTER: Trace definitely stopped wearing eyeliner, but instead replaced it with tattoos on his face. I think he can totally pull it off now because he's young, but I always wonder what people with this many tattoos will look like when they are 50??  If he feels good about them though, that is all that matters right? Anyone else looking forward to Metro Station's new album??

How do you feel about all these musicians new looks?

I know my mother would KILL me if I got tattoos on my face (even though I am too scared of needles to do it anyways), how do you think your parents would feel if you had many tats as Trace?

If you could have any of these guys do YOUR makeup who would you choose? I would let Davey do mine. He is REALLY good.. I just don't like the makeup on him.

Daylight?

Well, today sucks. I have a shitload of homework to make up along with a project due Monday. Good thing we have a four day weekend. WELL anyway, when was the last time I gushed about MGG? I read a journal today about him and fell more in love. The guy's a ford model mixed with a Greek God on a summer day with wispy hair and his shirt off. AND He's an artist. He lives in the vicinity, I have just yet to meet him. I swear though, every time I see him on tv. or in the tabloids, he just gets yummier and yummier. Can I get a woot woot?

Next, has anyone watched Jennifer's Body? Yes it's an old topic by now, but I watched it not too long ago and I'm a bit disappointed. Yes she looked fabulous as always, I'm super jealous of her bod, anyone else? The storyline was interesting. I mean, what's scarier these days than teenage girls? But in reference to the overall plot scheme, I'm not impressed. I liked the movie, the soundtrack, the Megan Fox, and the creepiness of it. I'm sure alot of its audience only went because of Megan Fox anyway.

Lately I've been really into Exercising and Fashion. Which I guess goes hand in hand, because if you can't fit into an outfit, you sure ain't gunna look cute. Dropped a couple pounds in the past week, which is surprising taken the fact that Halloween was just last Saturday. Then again, all my candy was destroyed in the rain. Thank you water cycle! Anyway, working on scheduling a PS soon for my MM account. book me!

Song of the moment : Daylight - Matt and Kim

Have a nice day!

November 4, 2009

Hello, Hello.

So I should totally be doing school work, but like always I will find better things to do.

Well I Saturday I went to a University open day, eventhough I feel I'm not old enough to go and it seems a million miles away. But I went and loved it... The fashion design course sounded sooo good, I sort of had to lift my mouth off the floor at some points. So now basically all I ever think about it textiles, fashion etc. Not too good for my other subjects, which I am still doing 4 of, am seriously thinking of dropping art though, I need more time to build my portfolio, if I wanna get into this school.

On the note of portfolio, today my we all (in my textiles class, thats 5) were given jackets from a charity shop to customise, revamp, make it slightly fashionable. I totally wanted to oversized blazer, but someone got it before me. Instead I got this dark green jacket made from like a velvet, with a mandarin collar, and generally a chinese influence... so here's my idea I am going to turn it into a millitary waistcoat, will take a lot of doing, we are't allowed to buy anything. But I'm gonna go down to the charity shop (whos donating stuff) and try and find a cute pin badg thing. Then I've got button to paint/cover and then cute ribbon things, then more ribbon which I'm customising to outline the ribbon. Love it... I' working for a professonal finish. I will also be keeping progress in a sketchbook along inspiration. CUTE.

Right my 13 year old sister is trying to annoy me. Well she is, but I'm trying to ignore.

Keep you posted.

A Month in Rome...

This month, I have the honor to be staying at The American Academy in Rome, Italy. What a fantastic experience! I've only been here a couple days, yet I already feel at home...? Its all so interesting... So i decided to keep a blog of what I'm doing, eating, wearing, and seeing. Things in italy are just so.... different (for lack of a better word) than in America. But in some ways, they are very similar. For instance, at dinner the other night, I overheard a conversation about the latest South Park episode... while at my table, we were talking about Dante.

Also you can find things here, that you couldn't in America.... Smart Cars are abundant, and octopi are stocked in grocery stores.

....as you can see...

I actually ate some delicious octopus today... it was served as a ragu with gnocchi... so yummy... heres a pic:

I couldn't eat it all... such big portions! so I ended up taking it home and putting it in the mini-fridge in my apartment. Oh how glamorous.

This is where I'm staying... oh i know, i'll get spoiled. Ordering diamond encrusted tins of caviar to be delivered to my apartment by butlers liveried daily. ahh I wish. ;)

But on the OTHER end of the spectrum, Rome is one of the most graffitied cities around...

now, this is no Banksy work (check him out here) but its pretty cool... :) That is the sort of stuff you see all over the place.

Well I hope SOMEONE out there will be reading my Rome travel-blog... it'd be nice to know that i'm not writing into a proverbial black hole... comment? buzz? lol thnx

Ciao, Ya'll ;)

xoxo Maggie

Not the wolf.

tuesday, November 3rd 2009

a happy birthday!

to my sister melanie and my friend sky! woohoo!

today was a very long day at the Allure Offices and had so much work...

which was due to the fact that i went to sleep at 4am-ish and woke up at 8am

i only had a 4hour sleep

Note to self: sleep! women sleeeep!

So last night im waiting for the bus like always, at around the same time.

The air was super nice and i just spent a good amount of money on

clothes and a garment rack at bed bath and beyond, which by the way was only 20 dollars!

yes, i was super excited! i always wanted one but never really got myself to buy it...So yes...

where was i? ...Ahh yes, so the night was beautiful and the

air was super clear, and by clear, i mean NYC clear...my city homies will understand.

I got on the bus, and there was little to no-one, Then the bus made a stop at 74th street like always to pick up

so as the bus turns slighty to leave a man, middle 30's or so, blue eyes, short dark brown hair, and

a long dark navy blue coat taps on the window...sadly the driver doesnt see him and pulls away.

Now outside me is

"Oh no! well that sucks..."

Inside me is

"HAHAHA loser! maybe if he flys down 3 blocks he can catch it! DOUBT IT!"

i know super mean haha

so what happenes, 2seconds later we are at 77th street and

BAM

he's there!

i was in total shock because it was like magic that he made it 3blocks, the bus was totally fast...

i still can't believe it happened.

As he sits across from me, my face is totally in

=o

mode, but of course i made no emotion to the naked eye.

The funny thing is that he started to talk to me and like many guys in NYC who randomly talk to you, it's a red sign for

creeep!

but for some reason no sign went on and we talked the whole way....

today's veeee-diii-ooOhh of the day:

why? because i love them! this video is pureee love...
