Twilight Fan: Psymom

Buzznet: How long have you been here?

I have been here since about eleven o'clock last night.

Buzznet: How far did you come to be here.

I don't know the exact miles, but I came from Dallas.

Buzznet: That's so rad! Are you here all weekend or just today?

All weekend!

Buzznet: Ok, let's talk about Twilight. What initially drew you to the series and what has made you more than a casual fan?

The cover of the book initially drew me to the series. I had just finished the Harry Potter series and I was looking for something else to read. I was at my local bookstore and saw the cover and it was beautiful. So I picked it up and looked at it and thought, "Hey, this looks good!" Read it in two days and went to get the others. At the time, New Moon and Eclipse were out, so I got those.

Then I started searching online for fanfiction, because I had done fanfiction for Harry Potter. I guess what made me more than just a casual fan was...well, I think it's the greatest love story of all time. It speaks to people on a very deep level, because it's all about being desired by someone who is so desirable. It's every girl...you know, being a girl and being singled out by someone who everyone else wants is kind of every girl's dream.

Buzznet: You actually have experience prior to Twilight with writing fanfiction. What inspired you to begin writing [Twilight fanfic]?

I wrote a story called, "Stranger Than Fiction," and it's actually a real-life fic between Rob and Kristen. The reason I wrote it was because when they first announced that Robbert Pattinson was going to be Edward Cullen, there was a lot of backlash. A lot of people said they didn't like. It really frustrated me because I thought he was perfect for the part. So I started thinking about filming and about Kristen Stewart being on set. I thought, "How could she not fall in love with him while acting this whole thing out?" I mean, she's taking part in, as I said, the greatest love story of all time, with this man who is perfect.

So I started writing a chapter about this idea. And it initially was just going to be a one-shot, but the response was so popular, the demand, that I kept writing. It ended up being 14 chapters and a few one-shots after that.

What I love about fanfiction is that you get that--it's almost like doing live theater instead of a movie. You get this instantaneous feedback.

Buzznet: How has being involved in fanfiction enriched your life or affected you?

Well, the site (www.Twilighted.net) has taken over my life. It's all I do, outside of work and family responsibilities. I have just met some of the best friends I've ever had. Some of my friends I had before...you think they're close friends and then you meet these people who you have so much in common with and who you feel connected with right from the get-go...it's amazing.

Buzznet: That's very hard to find.

It is! And events like this, you can just go up and to almost anyone and start talking and you've got this instant connection with them.

Buzznet: So what do you hope to do in the future with your fanfiction and your site?

I actually don't really write anymore because I run the Twilighted website. I just don't have the time. What I want to do with the site is...well, we have a lot of talented writers who should be out there on a much larger scale than just writing fanfiction. So I'd like to help them bridge that gap between fanfiction and real, original fiction. You know, taking a hobby and helping people become true, published authors.

Buzznet: What do you think will be the biggest challenge for those transitioning to fiction?

There's a little bit of a stigma associated with fanfiction. We recently did an interview with an author, Cassandra Clare, who wrote the City of Bones series, and she used to be a fanfiction writer. We asked her, "What's the biggest issue for transitioning from fanfiction to original fiction?"

And she said, "That it doesn't matter." That an agent doesn't care if you had 1,000 reviews on your last chapter of a fanfic. It's kind of like...you can't really mention it. It's kind of taboo.

But I just really beg to differ. I think if someone can demonstrate that they can maintain a readership of thousands of people every week, waiting for your story, how can you say that's not talent? I really think it says a lot about a person's talent.

Are you kidding me?

Woow. That's so sad.

The fact that this piece of shit series (it's not a saga. Look up the definition) about shapeshifters and faeries could do all of this really makes me afraid for future generations.
