Dane Cook Kinda Sorta Doesn't Apologize For Joke

If you watched the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, then you probably already know what I'm talking about. The comic who will now be known for making the super-uncomfortable comment during the awards ceremony, Dane Cook, has addressed the joke he aimed towards High School Musical star, Vanessa Hudgens. You'd think he'd apologize for the embarrassing call out, but of course, being the gusty man he is, he didn't.

Okay, so before we go any further. Let's get the story straight. At the Teen Choice Awards, Cook, who hosted the show three years ago, was chosen to present the Choice Hottie awards (which, of course, went to Robert Pattinson and Megan Fox). Before he started to read the nominees, he began to tell a "joke" that he thought would be "funny".

He scanned the crowd for Vanessa so that it would take full affect and then proceeded to embarrass the girl out of her skin. "Before I do the Choice Hotties, can I just say what everybody in the room is thinking but nobody has said? Girl, you gots to keep your clothes on! Phones are for phone calls, girl," he said with a laugh and a lisp, or whatever you wanna call it. Vanessa kept a smile on her face but it was easy to see that she was uncomfortable and probably wanted to jump up on stage and claw his eyes out. Well, that's what I'd be doing. Anyways...

Now, you probably know why he made the joke. Vanessa who is Disney-bred and used to be expected to reflect that image has had two nude photo scandals, so it's not completely unexpected that someone would poke fun. But I really don't think the best place to do that would be at a Teen Choice Awards show, in front of hundreds of people and not to mention the millions watching at home. And plus, it was Dane Cook who honestly, just isn't that funny.

But to get to the point, Dane decided to "take the hit" for his attack and doesn't feel he needs to apologize for it. "Mostly I just wanted it to be funny. That's the best part about being a comic, when you go, 'Maybe I can say the thing that everybody is kind of feeling and nobody [is saying].' The elephant-in-the-room moment. So, I'll take it, I'll take the hit. It's OK. I planned it about 20 minutes before I went out there. Because I like to be on the cusp of fear. My fans are very young as well, and everybody's very opinionated. You gotta keep it classy."

Um, there are so many things wrong with what he said, IMO, but I'm going to let you guys hash that out in the comments.

Did you think his joke was uncalled for?

"Mostly I just wanted it to be funny."

Trust me, Dane. There are a lot of people who want you to be funny. Maybe you should work on that. Because you're not.

You gotta keep it...classy?
Dane Cook is like the furthest thing from classy. He's at the top of the list when my friends and I make fun of bros.

If this was in his routine or something, maybe it wouldn't matter--lots of comics rag on pop culture and stuff... but embarrassing her in front of all those people? I'm sure the scandal was embarrassing enough.

WIN.

I honestly don't really feel bad for Vanessa, taking naked photos of yourself is never a good idea.

Meh, if you mean to keep them private I don't think it's such a huge deal. But, in that case, you shouldn't take them with your camera phone. You take them with an actual digital camera. And they don't get distributed to anyone you even SUSPECT would leak them into the internet in the case of a break-up/fight/whatever.

Yeah, I never really found him that funny. I knew some comedian would make some rude joke about her nude pictures. I feel sorry for her being he was such a jerk making a joke like that, but it was her fault and she had it coming you know? I didn't even know the world cared about dane cook anymore, I guess they do now.

Haahah. Me too! I don't think Rob Pattinson and Megan Fox are attractive at all. Megan has nice eyes, but that's about it. I don't see why everyone is all crazy about them..

If the joke was funny, maybe she would've felt a little better about it. But he embarassed the poor girl.

To me, that joke was the equivalent of the high school cheerleading captain yelling across the cafeteria "Hey Veronica, I heard you had hot sex this weekend with Jonathan from chess club!" and that is not something to brush off.

Okay, I'm commenting one more time. I just love commenting.

Anyways, it would not be a big deal at all to me if he did it during his stand-up routine. However, he specifically called her out, in front of many of her peers, and on an award show. Sorry Dane Cook. It's not funny.

Well I feel that if you are in the spotlight and you take nude pictures they will find a way to get out. Even if the person isn't a huge success yet but are trying to get into the industry, it's just not a good idea plain and simple.
