I'm a Conservative...

As a Conservative, I'm voting for...

... the one man who has the necessary character to do the job, to take on the responsibilities of the office of the 44th President of the United States. As an American citizen, I would like to say that voters should pay less attention to a candidate's party and more to what they are saying and doing. Our first president, George Washington, warned against political parties and I see a lot of people strictly voting a certain way like lemmings, because that is the way their party chooses.

I'm a Conservative...

I'm a veteran, and having served proudly as a US Marine in the service of my country, I'm voting for the man who has a record of standing up for veterans and their rights, and a man who makes no excuses about where he stands on those issues. I'm voting for the man who will restore our nation's sacred trust with my fellow veterans, who is committed to creating a 21st Century Department of Veterans' Affairs that provides the care and benefits my fellow veterans and I deserve. I'm voting for the man who will help returning service members, who will will improve the quality of health care for veterans, rebuild the VA's broken benefits system, and combat homelessness among veterans.

I'm a Conservative...

I'm voting for the man who will protect the openness of the 'Net, and understands its power as a medium of free speech. I'm voting for the man who strongly supports the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition on the Internet.

I'm a Conservative...

I'm voting for the man who understands real family values, who will restore work-family balance to our nation, who will double funding for after-school programs. I'm voting for the man who will expand the Family Medical Leave Act, and will encourage flexible work schedules.

I'm a Conservative...

As a Conservative, I defend your right to get out and vote on November 4th. It doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat, a Republican or an Independent, you owe it to yourself, your family and your country to vote your conscience. Whether your leanings are Liberal, Conservative or towards Libertarian, don't allow your judgment to be clouded by ideology or partisanship. Instead, make the choice that is right for your country

Despite all of its its problems and crises, the United States of America is the most powerful and best country in the world. America has always been a beacon of hope and opportunity, but for some time now, its light has been dimmed somewhat. It's up to you, my fellow American voters, to make the right choice on November 4th. Get out and vote: vote for change, vote for hope, vote for a better America and vote for a better world for all of us and for our children.

I'm a Conservative...

As a true Conservative, I have one clear choice, and that choice is Barack Obama

There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind, heart or soul that in Barack Obama, there's a real opportunity to turn the best country in the world into an even better country. Opportunities like these don't come around every four or eight years; they present themselves once every several hundred years.

I respect the opinions of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, political satirist and author Christopher Buckley ( son of the late William F. Buckley Jr.) and Alison Goldwater Ross (the granddaughter of the late Senator Barry Goldwater). All of these people are Republicans and true Conservatives, and each of them has endorsed Barack Obama and not John McCain.

Candidly speaking, neither Barack Obama nor John McCain has real experience that's applicable to being President of the United States, with the exception that both of them have run large, multimillion-dollar political campaigns. The main difference is that John McCain's has been disorganized, quite confused and quite ineffective. On the other hand, Barack Obama has run a smooth operation, and done it with little of the commotion and mindless cacophony that so often shows in these campaigns. And Obama looked directly at McCain during the debates, though that simple mark of respect was rarely returned.

In Barack Obama, we will have a president that is as normal, ordinary and human as all of us. He won't forget about what real life is like for all of us as individuals and as a nation.

The scariest thing about this is that people actually think this way.

I found this linked on a rather stunning (and amazing) blog on Jesus' General. (Read that first.)

Now read this link. Blogs 4 Brownback. (Sam Brownback is running for President as a Republican.)

It's a conservative blog written by someone who so dearly wants Brownback to win. This morning, he posted an "Open Thread" asking if the "globe theory" (?????) should be taught in schools.

Let me highlight some of the responses:

  • I got no problem with teaching that kind of stuff if its treated like other mythologies, like homers odyssey or beowulf or the holocaust. I dont got no kids, but i wouldnt be suprised if stupid libs are already teaching all three as so-called “scientific fact”. [Posted by Elvin]
  • The only book of teaching that should be used in ANY class is the Holy Bible. All of this “globe theory” and “global warming” stuff isn’t mentioned in the Good Book and sounds suspiciously like COMMUNISM to me. [Posted by Will B.]
  • I wouldn’t be upset if the globe theory were included in art class with the assistance of a balloon and some paper mache and paint. When the kids are finished with their crafting, the teacher can pop the balloon and crumple the paper “globe” to illustrate that the theory/guess is full of hot air and too weak to sustain itself against God’s divine plan.
Also after we ban books such as The Grapes of Wrath, 1984, Lolita and all books by Mailer, Henry Miller, Vonnegut and Hemingway, there may be some room to teach the fiction of the globe guess in sophomore English classes. [Posted by carsick]
  • With all due respect, this is a silly topic. The Bible is the only text that should be taught in our schools. Period. This is clear because if God intended for children to learn things like “math” he would have included such studies in the text. Further, it is also clear that Hurricane Katrina, AIDS, the shuttle disasters, and commercials during “24″ would not exist but for the presence of secular “education” in our public schools. When Sam is President he will make sure that the Bible is the only word our kids hear in school. [Posted by St. Legalize]
  • But if you believe in teaching children that the world is round, you’re a Helioleftist who opposes the Bible. In that case, I don’t want you coming near our children. The “global” theory flatly contradicts the Biblical teaching that the world is flat. Specifically, it is a disk, with the circumference in Antarctica and the center at the North Pole. You can learn more about it here:

This has to be an elaborate joke. If so, I've definitely fallen for it. Kudos.

But I have a feeling it's not. :(

Clearly, Shrek The Third is propaganda for trannies.

I can't even make this shit up.

An Illinois conservative blogger/writer/reporter/whatever gave two thumbs down to the newest Shrek movie, not because the movie was bad (they enjoyed it), but because there's a cross-dressing character in the mix.

Again, I can't possibly begin to make up shit like this.

  • Shrek's not the problem.  It's the awkward inclusion of a transvestite and the uselessness of the character himself (herself?) in the story that is troubling.

Right in the midst of a warm "traditional family" setting,  the film writers place a man dressed as a woman in with Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White (the good gals).  The crossdressing character simply doesn't make sense, except as a ploy to desensitize children and parents to transgenders.
Holy.
Fucking.
Hell.

Let me try to continue.

  • Homosexual activists now are careful to not only use the term "LGBTs" as a unit, they are more boldly now declaring lesbians-gays-bisexuals-transgenders as a unit pushing together as one for civil rights.  Those confused about their sexual roles are pushing for equal rights to be free to publicly demonstrate their odd sexual behavior.  For transgenders, appearing to be a different sex in public is their particular turn on.  We need to understand that acceptance of this sexual behavior is just another step moving our world toward sexual chaos.
Normally, I'd just slam my [insert body part] against the keyboard at this point. I'm going to try to be a bit more e-civil this time around.

I have quite a few issues with this statement. First of all, it's not a behavior. It's an orientation. Secondly, using the word "odd" is just a lame pot-shot. Just because it's not as popular as everything else doesn't mean it's odd. Of course, it's just semantics, I suppose. Plus, there are bigger ideas at hand.

Like the fact that the author has no understanding of the transgendered. I assure you that, as much as I know about transgender men and woman, that it's not explicity for sexual turn-on. There's a much more complex emotional enviroment than just sexual excitement.

But I doubt they care about that. Because, of course, it's all leading to "sexual chaos"! (I suppose they mean sexual diversity. And fuck that! Everyone should be the same.)

  • But well-meaning parents who plan to take their kids to see a movie that grossed $122 million in the opening weekend should be aware . . . it's the subtlety of the movie makers' agenda to desensitize that could be more harmful to your children than encouraging them to eat sugary cereals in the morning.
I want you to tell me something, Fran Eaton, though I'm sure you'd be unable to give any sort of respectable or reasonable response:

What's so harmful about this??

It's time to round up all the Muslims and throw them in camps.

And I'm sure conservative radio host "Gunny" Bob Newman would be the first to volunteer to help out.

Check out what this asshole said:

  • NEWMAN: I want -- tell me if I'm wrong or tell me if I'm right. I want every Muslim immigrant to America who holds a green card, a visa, or who is a naturalized citizen to be required by law to wear a GPS tracking bracelet at all times. And the FBI and the NSA should monitor their phones and their emails, all communications -- electronic -- at all times, as well as bug their places of work and their residences. If they don't like the idea, or if they refuse, throw their asses out of this country. All mosques and community centers as well as Muslim organizations must be monitored. We know with the arrests today that the Muslim terrorists are absolutely, positively here -- and we invited them to our country! And I think maybe it's time that we should stop doing that. Call me kooky, but I think maybe it's time for a little moratorium on Muslim visas, period. Hey, I'm sorry, guys -- I know that a lot of you are great people. I know you just like to do business here or become a U.S. citizens and be a peaceful person. I know that. But you know what? You better get control of your own people. Once you get control of them, then come see us again and we'll think about -- however many decades down the road it is -- we'll think about maybe opening our doors to you again. But you are doing absolutely freaking nothing to help, to, to help this nation. And that's that.
Yikes. That's certainly tolerant, logical, and rational.

If George Will had his way, you'd be making $0.00 per hour.

I don't know about you, but I've worked more than enough jobs at minimum wage here California. (Read as: more than zero.) It's not a great feeling to work just as hard (or even harder) than your superiors and to sometimes make a half or a third as much as they do. Even then, it's practically impossible to survive on such wages out here. (The rising cost of rent alone will eat up any paycheck in Southern California.)

On the contrary, I'm sure that most of you have had a few experiences with unchecked capitalist theory; in the end, a great deal of people and companies truly seek to raise their bottom line and, in the process, eliminate any sense of humanity in their actions. Isn't the goal of capitalism to gain wealth and capital anyway?

So, given this, why does George Will believe we shouldn't have a minimum wage at all? Honestly. I don't get it.

Wait, no no no. I get it. I imagine that Will hasn't tried to subsist making a measly $6.75 an hour. I have. It's like constantly jumping from the top of a 20 story building with a parachute full of holes and hoping the wind catches you just the right way and you don't break both your legs when you hit the ground. Just one of them, of course.

George Will, the reason we need a federally mandated minimum wage is because of people like you. You fail to understand that when money is flashed in people's faces, they seem to disregard the human condition and the desperation of the labor force. (Especially that bottom rung you so easily discard.)

We need it to protect ourselves from you and your high-and-mighty business practices. We need it to shield us from the crass and emotionless doctrines you subscribe to.

And $7.25 an hour still isn't that much.

virgil goode-super hater bastard

"What can men do against such reckless hate?"-Lord of the Rings

the republican representative of virgina, virgil goode issued a letter to his constituents saying that if immigration laws in the U.S. were not tightened soon, there may be 'many muslims' in future elections (Goode added: "I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.")
, following n.j. congressman and practicing muslim keith ellison.  ellison says that when he is sworn in, he wants to swear on the koran, not the bible.  this has of course angered some of the more idiotic of the conservative masses, who want him to swear on the bible, like that MAKES ANY SENSE  AT ALL. conservative talk-radio host dennis prager says that swearing on the koran 'undermines american culture'.  wasn't the whole fucking point of creating the country in the first place FREEDOM?  freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and now poeple are just going to say 'the u.s. should be entirely white christian fascists and we shouldn't allow ourselves to learn about other people?  how can people think this way? just smeone explain to me what causes all this profiling, what causes all this provincial-minded shit that goes on in this country?  i thought this was a fucking land of oppurtunity, where all people would be welcomed.

LET'S WAKE UP FROM THE AMERICAN DREAM AND MAKE IT REAL

Conservatives flip out over Muslim Congressman being sworn in with the Koran.

They're so quick to shed their religious "values" of love and acceptance in order to hate someone who is different.

Story:

Before he became the nation’s first Muslim elected to Congress, Democrat Keith Ellison was called “unfit” for Congress by his Republican opponent. And that was just the beginning.

Ellison is setting yet another precedent in January when he takes the oath of office on the Koran, Islam’s holiest book—an event that evoked conservatives to accuse him of deviating his allegiance from the Constitution to Allah.

On Tuesday, conservative radio talk show host and columnist Dennis Prager wrote: “America is interested in only one book, the Bible.” Directly addressing Ellison, he added “If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don’t serve in Congress.”

Ellison said that he’s not changing his mind about the sacred text he’s swearing on.

“The Constitution guarantees for everyone to take the oath of office on whichever book they prefer,” he said in a telephone interview. “And that’s what the freedom of religion is all about.”

According to Roll Call, the Capitol Hills’ newspaper, swearing on a particular sacred text is a symbolic, optional affair for House members who would like a photo-op with the Speaker of the House at the end of the mass swearing-in ceremony, which has no specific religious denomination.

In his scathing article, Prager barely stopped short of calling Ellison a racist, but he said that allowing Ellison to  swear on the Koran is akin to allowing a “racist” to choose “the Nazis’ Bible for his oath.”

And though he suggests that the Bible is the exclusive book, in which Americans should swear on, plenty of elected officials locally and nationally have taken their oath on the Torah.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida Democrat, who’s Jewish, refused to use a Christian Bible in her swearing-in ceremony in 2005. Eventually, she borrowed a Hebrew Bible from a colleague. Others officials, including four U.S presidents have skipped swearing on the Bible all together.

The foray into Ellison’s oath on the Koran, led by Prager and a cadre of conservative bloggers, is seen rapacious by Muslims and tendentious by most experts.

“It’s a clear double standard in our society,” said David Landry, professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. “There’s a lot of anti-Muslim bigotry in it.”

Rev. Meg Riley, director of Advocacy and Witness Programs at Unitarian Universalist Association, said that “Ellison is swearing on the Koran to uphold the Constitution of this country.”

“He’s not swearing on the Constitution to uphold the Koran.”

And by doing that, she said, he’s just using his desired sacred text to affirm his allegiance.

For Muslims, Prager’s column not only rekindles old wounds sustained during the campaign, but reflects a faith that is increasingly becoming a public prey.

“It’s ridiculous and utterly offensive,” said Mahdi Bray, executive director of Muslim American Society’s Freedom Foundation, based in Washington D.C. “But what’s more saddening is that no prominent person is able to respond to those conservatives, because Muslims are easy targets.”

Asked if he’s disappointed with the criticism that seems to be glued to each step he takes, Ellison said that this particular outcry will eventually wane down.

I personally find it quite courageous of Ellison to do as he pleases in the face of so much criticism (and to do so with such a good attitude).

I think the importance of this story is recognizing how willingly the constitution can be trashed by so many conservatives, especially when it serves their own interests. Disturbing, yet, unfortunately, not surprising.

My first message on Hannidate!

My first message on Hannidate is from a steaming hot hunk in Nebraska!

Yes, that is the almighty TONYA HARDING standing next to him. I'm in love.

Here are some gems from his profile:

Well what can I say here, I mean I dress in slacks and t-shirts most times and shorts and blue jeans when they are not in the wash. I also am a former weight lifter from my High School days but that was 9 years ago and have not really gone back to it. I like to be conservative with my atire as I hate people who wear pants that show their rears or underwear. I think the only person to see that is me and my doctor. I mean come on it is just nasty.

I am seeking some one who is open to dating a Midwestern person. I want some one to know that here in Nebraska we do not have to face of with the Indians, just turn coats like Chuck Hagel. I want some one who is open to my beliefs. I am a Catholic and proud to be. I am a person who attends mass every Sunday and is happy to be there. I want someone who is not ashamed to date some one who might be a little out spoken or is afraid to tell me some times to shut up. I want someone who is not ashamed to vote and vote pro-life. I attend every year our Nebraska Walk for Life and even when it is 20 degrees out I bundle up and show my belief that deaths of unborn babies will not stand.

[Not that that specific belief is funny, but that sentence is simply hilarious.]

He wrote me this:

Hi there, I was just looking into your profile and would like to know a little more about you. If you get a free moment to chat lets.

Do you currently us any of the IM clients like AIM, MSN, or Yahoo? If you do get me your user ID and we can chat.

Take care and have a nice day.

I replied:

Why thank you for writing me! That is so terribly flattering. I would love to chat with you, especially about your inspiring, frigid walks for life! It's pretty cold out here in Philly, too, but fortunately spring is right around the corner.

I currently do not have any instant message handles, but I could sign up for one. Which one is best for you? I'll sign up for that one.

Talk to soon and nice to make your acquaintence.

I will totally make an AIM/MSN name to chat with him. And I will post that conversation here.

March 22, 2006

Ben Domenech, you are my new best friend!

If you haven't already heard the news, the Washington Post has hired a new "conservative" blogger to, I suspect, counter their "liberal attack" on the Bush administration. A valiant and honorable act, I suppose.

However, they hired a 24 year old with pretty much NO experience in journalism. Hell, I am more qualified to write a blog for them than he is.

And it gets funnier: Check out what YourLogoHere compiled about our good man Ben Domenech:

http://yourlogohere.blogspot.com/2006/03/meet-ben-domenich.html

FUCKING. HILARIOUS. Now I know why they chose him. The guy is nuts! I have a new blog to read every morning because of this. Thank you, oh Washington Post, for having the most wonderful sense of humor. I think I'll be able to look over the fact that as the days go by, you're becoming attached to GOP more and more!
