Hey Monday live: Same Show, Different Angles...

Miss Cassadee Pope of Hey Monday
Live @ The Pageant, St. Louis
11/21/09

These 2 shots happened within just a few seconds of each other towards the end of the 3rd song and up until that point, the lighting had been well-less than ideal for shooting. Pretty dark, actually. This was taken w/my 24-70mm f/2.8 at 1/60 on manual. Unfortunately this diptych of 2 shots were the only ones I felt were suitable for posting.

However, concert photographer Todd Owyoung and I shoot the same shows occasionally and I always think it's pretty interesting when we capture the same moment at the same show but from 2 different photographer's perspectives. He was front and center for this shot and you can check it out! Very cool!

[edit]: I also have a link to Dave Mullis' version of this moment from another perspective which is very cool! So make that 3 different perspectives!

These are Great shots, Jane, its really hard to shoot with dark concert lighting, i'd tried many times and they all came out blurry and noisey... !

They came out beautiful and clear.........The only time I ever took photos was at an Elton John concert. Cameras were so bad back then unless you had professional equipment. I wish I had photos from all the concerts I've been to !!!

Thank you! I'm just curious what camera do you use for your concert photography? Noise is sometimes a problem with mine, so I try to get away with ISO 800 instead of 1600 but sometimes I have to use 1600. It's both blessing and a curse!

Oh wow! My mom has seen Elton John several times when she was young and she told me all about his crazy outfits (one that he came out in a costume with balloons, one sporting sunnies that lit up 'elton' across the lenses) and I sometimes wish I could go back in time and capture those moments. What I wouldn't give for a professional film camera-maybe someday. I love digital, but there's something just very pure and organic about film photography that I love.

I use the Fuji S800 (S5800) for concerts, in fact, its the one I am holding in my current profile pic ;) So I was told not to use a high ISO because of the noise problems and the lack of details, so I have had my camera set to fix at ISO 100, and my friend was right, it produces much less noise at ISO 100 but then its just not good in dark environments, I have never tried ISO 800, because when I did ISO 400, I hated the results that came out from the Fuji.
Looks like I have no choice but to really save up for a better camera, besides the obvious budget factor, i was concerning about how serious I really am in terms of taking pictures, and if I really should carry a large full sized bulky camera around wherever I go... I still cannot find a good justification for me to do just that. I just thought the Fuji's physical size is large enough for me... :-)
