This is the desktop from Microsoft Windows 2.03 from the 1980s. Look at it and you'll see why many Mac owners just laughed. Even GEM/3 (from Digital Research) seemed to have a more appealing look to many.
But remember, Microsoft constantly evolves their software and applications, so one can see a large difference between what we have now and what was run in the 1980s.
