Footage from 'X Files 2' released at WonderCon

The first glimpse of The X Files movie sequel was given to attendees of this year's WonderCon over the weekend. At a panel attended by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (who apparently haven't aged), not much was revealed in terms of plot. But we did get to see Mulder and Scully on screen for the first time in 6 years.

WonderCon is essentially the smaller half-brother (or sister!) of the epically gigantic ComicCon, which is held every year in San Diego. (I was there last year!) According to the wide range of reports on the 'Net, the panel for the new X Files  movie, which is released on July 25, 2008, was easily the loudest and most ecstatic.

Here's the footage the audience saw:

Lots of Billy Connolly...hmmmm. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

The panel itself was frustrating, as everyone in the cast has zipped their lips about the plot, any cameos, or...well, everything. We know little to nothing about the film and it appears it's going to stay that way.

But this is refreshing to hear:
  • Chris Carter and the cast then went on to answer endless questions from the audience, starting out with how hard it was to get back into a franchise that they left six years ago. "It's actually harder in all honesty to come back into a role that you've done for a long time because you do want to use your intuition." Duchovny explains, "But you have this entire body of work behind it." When asked about what the most difficult scenes were, he added that those with Gillian were the hardest "only because we want those to work so well." He would put so much weight on those scenes with her because they both really wanted them to work, and Gillian agreed.
Easily my favorite set of characters from a television show, I'm biased when it comes to The X Files. I'll probably love almost anything put on the screen by Chris Carter. However, the real clincher for me is that if this movie sits in the middle of the X Files mythology, it had better to appear to do so. Duchovny is right; the most challenging part for the audience is believing this is really an X Files world we'll be shown.

And the plot?
  • As for story details, everyone involved is very tight lipped, not letting anything slip. When asked about whether it might involve the apocalypse in 2012 in some way, Carter said that "we want to be true to the series and the mythology, but we wanted to make sure we made the best movies" while also doing what feels right. However, "that 2012 date is certainly looming in our minds." That might be a cryptic message in some way, but I'm certain we won't find out until July 25th.
Hahahah oh man. You big tease. But you know what's even worse?
  • And to give all the fans one final hair-rising moment, a question was asked whether the recurring character Alex Krycek would be back even though he died in the series (supposedly). Chris Carter's response: "I'll just say to you that, no one is ever really dead in the X-Files." They're going to keep the entire story a secret and won't even real the rest of the cast until the movie hits theaters - so despite what you may think you know, you probably don't. "Don't trust or believe anything, just wait for the film."
STOP IT. DO NOT KEEP DOING THIS TO US.

July 25th is simply too far away.

MEH! I knew he wasn't dead! My heart belongs to Krycek, and I could only be more excited about this movie if I knew he was going to be in it.

July 25th is way to far away for my poor brain to wait. I'm so excited I could puke. :D

Krycek was hot, even if he was a little rat :) That actor is on Men In Trees now. Just sayin.

Can't wait for the movie!! I wonder what the whole title is going to be, like how the first one was "X-Files: Fight the Future".... *stares down at fading X-Files mousepad*
