Calling all concert photographers!
So, here's the deal: I love going to concerts and I love concert photography, but my point and shoot camera is just not producing very good photographs in dark concert venues. I have adjusted the settings correctly, and saw a small improvement, but I think that I may need to upgrade to a DSLR for these reasons-
The Nikon D80, and the Canon EOS Rebel XSi but I don't know which one is better. The Canon is cheaper, but I am willing to spend a little extra on the Nikon if it's a higher quality camera. Does anyone own either of these and if so, could you tell me what you think?
Thanks very much!
Elisha

- higher ISO settings
- less shutter lag
- less blurry photos on the burst shooting mode
- higher quality images
- better lens

This information is based on reviews and tests published at DP Review.com, one of the best photo sites on the web. I’ve also gone ar ound the web looking for samples from the ca meras in question.
Don’t bother with the D80. This is an older model camera that has basically been phased out and is usin g 2 year old technology.
The real com etition is between the Nikon D90 and the EOS 450D Rebel Xsi. In terms of performance, thes e cameras are a near match. The D90 has slig htly better low noise performance, but cost s more. The real advantage of the D90 is it s hoots at ISO 3200 while the Canon can only manage ISO 1600. According to the test s, the Nikon is actually less noisy at ISO 3200 than the Canon is at ISO 1600. I’ve shot dozens of concerts and usually find m yself at ISO 3200. Results are less than p erfect at these high ISOs, but what can you d . I’ve seen some concert shots on the D90 on F lickr and they look pretty good. About as good as the 450D looks at 1600.
So – Forget the D80. Yesterday’s news.
The D90 beats the Canon for low noise perfor mance, but at a higher price tag. If you real y want that extra stop of ISO, you need the D9 .
If you had to go with the Canon, t hat’s still an excellent camera.
