The Hunt for the Worst Musical Act: Blood on the Dancefloor

While on the surface, Blood on the Dancefloor seem fairly uncontroversial. They have typical scenester gender-bending members, music that sounds like it was made on Garageband and the typical rainbow coloured spew everywhere on their myspace and albums. In fact, the unassuming person might well dismiss them as yet another shitty scene band not even worth listening to. This attitude is only partially correct. While BOTDF are certainly unoriginal, and should not be listened to by any person wishing to maintain their sense of sanity and personal dignity, BOTDF are not just another Medic Droid or Dot Dot Curve. They are really, trully, soul-crushingly awful in every way, bringing them a cut above (below?) the pack.

Dahvie Vanity will haunt me in my sleep in a scary way, and totally not in a sexual way.

And yes. That is a man.

No, really.

To add a little context to this band, their lead singer Dahvie Vanity was once accused of raping and sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl. Absolutepunk commenters rather succinctly added "Normally, they're only raping people's ears. Seems they've stepped their game up now." and "For Girl's Sake: Hope it's not true. For Music's Sake: Hope it's true." This just about summarises the situation - the members of this band are disgusting human beings who make disgusting music. While the charges do not appeared to have been pursued further, the content of the band's music suggests to me that even if this poor girl wasn't raped, Dahvie Vanity has absolutely unhealthy and unsatisfactory attitudes towards women and sex. The lead singer looks like a hag, and perhaps under the gunk, shitty hair (apparently he is a qualified hair dresser, idk?), and photoshop, he might be nice looking. But I really doubt it.

Starting at this top, this band is horribly, horribly cliched in every possible way. "Success is the best Revenge" is just one internet meme after another. When a band has a song called "IDGAF" which literally spells letters out, you know that that band is completely devoid of any kind of creativity or style.

Their music has a mediocre at best grasp of crunk, which is made entirely worse by the autotuned screams. Their beats seem to have very little to do with the lyrics, but are kind of incidental background music. I cant say the music background is terrible because its just too bland and garagebandy for me to hate properly. The lead singer's voice isn't even that terrible - again, its just too generic for me to hate properly. The music itself, aside from the standard shitty screams, is fairly unoffensive. It's the lyrics that are the killers.

I'm not suprised he was accused of raping someone - their lyrics in songs such as "success.." make casual references to rape. Their attitude towards sex is frankly demeaning and alarming given their popularity with young girls.

  • "Cyber cheat" glorifies online cheating.
  • "Ima Monster" - supersocker on your chests, let it drip down on your breasts
  • "IDGAF" - shut the fuck up bitch .... so suck my dick
  • "Scream for my Ice Cream" - Got a monster in my pants/ And if you ever get the chance/ Gunna cram it down your throat/ Watch you gasp for air & choke/ I'm gunna jizz all in your face/ I'm gunna wreck this fucking place/ Pull my hair smash the chair/ Break the bed & give me head
  • "I Heart Hello Kitty" - You scream "meat sucks!" / Well you're out of luck / I'll fuck you in the face / And leave a nice taste / A hot mess [ ....] H-E-L-L-O Blasting through your stereo K-I-T-T-Y Let me slip between your thighs H-E-L-L-O Coming straight from Tokyo K-I-T-T-Y My sex will leave you satisfied H-E-L-L-O Show me how you're such a hoe K-I-T-T-Y Bitch I'll make you fucking cry H-E-L-L-O Get down on your knees and blow K-I-T-T-Y You're such a fucking cutie pie!
  • "Bitches Get Stitches" - Talk your shit watch you get hit. Save the drama for your mama [...] Bitches get stitches they end up in ditches, So get the riches

Whats most disturbing is the combination of "cutsey" hello kitty imagery with sex and violence. Disturbing because the cutseyness is obviously aimed at young girls (as evidenced by all the scantily clad 13-14 yr olds photos on their myspace), but yet they're sexualising their youth in a really creepy, almost pedophilic, kind of way. The appeal of this band to young people, combined with the attitudes towards sex being pushed upon their fans makes this kind of music very dangerous.

Of course, no scene band is complete without songs about the haters, such as "Ima monster" and "Bitches Get Stitches" (You can talk your shit, you're only making me famous). O rly.

I hope everyone is sitting down before I make the following announcement:

Blood on the Dancefloor is worse than Brokencyde

I did not believe that this day would ever come, in which music sunk to worse lows than Brokencyde. Unfortunately, this journey to find the worst musical act of all time has brought me to this horrible, intolerable place in which I find myself taking back all the things I said about Brokencyde being the worst thing to ever happen to music. BOTDF's music itself is probably tolerable than Brokencyde, but their lyrics are incomparably worse. Worse in terms of being even more demeaning and offensive, but with the additional dimension of shittasticness in being cheesy, lame and poorly constructed (somehow, in some evil way, this is possible).

This band is the love child of Brokencyde and Jefree Star, taking the worst aspects of Brokencyde with their horrid interpretation of crunk combined with pig squeals, and marrying it with the meme-licious, cutseyness of Jefree Star, resulting in a monster far far worse than either. A monster that has come to life and will haunt the nightmares of all who dare to listen. What the fuck music, WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Seriously, youtube? 4 1/2 stars? I dont even know!

I'm going to go off and have a cry now.

My Three-Year Buzzaversary

As of today, September 11, 2009, it is not only the eight-year anniversary of 9/11, but it is my third year on Buzznet. In case you are wondering, yes, I did intentionally sign up for Buzznet the same day of one of America's most tragic events, so people would forget about that, and remember me.*

Throughout the day, I've been wondering what to do to celebrate. Host a roast? Nah, someone might take full advantage of that and intentionally attack me, or someone else. Write a touching piece about some of my favorite Buzznet users? I don't have time, sorry. Highlight what I think is some of my best work? Too cocky. Then it hit me. What is the most entertaining on the Internet? E-drama! Here, I recount some of my favorite encounters on this site.

The names have been changed to protect certain people, and because I might be banned if I don't. I think. Would I be banned? Oh well, I won't test it.

First, I'd like to talk about an encounter I actually kind of started myself. I cannot link you to it, because I have been blocked from the page. Whose page you ask? Schmefree Schmar.
Someone went on to Schmefree's page, saying they didn't understand why people thought him "hawt". Instead of possibly ignoring the person, or saying "I don't care what you think", Schmefree attacked the girl, saying her mom smoked crack when she (the girl) was pregnant with her. Not only did Schmefree insult her mother, but basically said this made the girl ugly. The girl's profile picture wouldn't show her actual face at all. I stepped in, telling Schmefree to educate or fuck off, and the fans attacked me, and some friends defended me, and they attacked them. Schmefree attacked me, and a then-friend, and blocked a bunch of people. Mar-er, Schmark, banned a couple people. I think this event caused many scene queens to allow only friends to comment on their pages. I might be wrong. Either way, I am still blocked from his page to this day.

Next, I'd like to lighten up some newbies on an incident that is oft-mentioned on the site. The SchmamieSchmalifornia incident. I wasn't actually involved in this, but I will give what I think is the story of it. Basically, Schmamie started his annoyance on the contest "Be Big on Buzznet", where he was just a general douchebag. His entry in the contest was a video of him raking leaves. This has made so many users crack jokes. Then, he was caught for auto-adding. In case you didn't know, using a computer system to automatically add people is really bad. For this, he got banned.

Now, for a story of someone who got big hacking Twitter, who got his start by hacking Buzznet. I'm talking about the hacker, Schmikeyy. He seemed okay. He even had conversations with Schmark about HTML. Then, one day, when everyone got onto their Buzznet accounts, they couldn't. Whenever they went to their friend's page, or even their own page, a screen blocked up saying that Schmikeyy hacked into Buzznet, but for our own good, because a virus had spread there. It's not just that, but also on this page, he credited himself, and even gave a shout-out to some of his friends. He also shrinked people's friend's size down considerably. It took days for that to be fixed. Best believe he was banned.
Ever since, he's just been wandering around the interwebs, probably hacking other sites for the users own good. He really became known when he hacked Twitter, saying in an interview he did it because he was bored. Why didn't you just use that when you hacked Buzznet, huh?
Here, I actually have some links of it for you, brought to you by the lovely Kerri/HideDontSeek. You should add her. Links here, here, here and here.

Now, the most recent piece of drama. I call it the Schmokencyde Saga.
It all started when SchmikkyG ended her search for the World's Worst Musical Act with Schmokencyde. That started the age when typing the sentence "I hate Schmokencyde" caused you, your personal life, and your musical tastes to be attacked. It was a dark time, and is still dark time. Because certain fans just can't get over that some people just don't like Schmokencyde.

With that, I have reminisced about some of teh e-drama of the past, present, and future, of Buzznet. I have enjoyed my three years of Buzznet, and hope to enjoy many more.

brokeNCYDE, the best thing out of "Albucrunky"

Coming from "Albucrunky", New Mexico, brokeNYCDE is actually something you would kind of expect on Warped Tour which is exactly where I found them. They bring in the kids, they know how to have a good time on stage and with their catchy beats and rythums, they make the concert goers happy. Their charisma and live energy during their shows may be exactly where they got their debut album title from in "I'm not a fan...but the kids like it". Their debut single from the album, strangely enough called "booty call" actually got over forty thousand downloads alone on iTunes and their fan base is definetly showing at their shows. They are about to jump on to their first headlining tour and bring along sevearl acts including Blood on the Dancefloor, Kill Paradise, Watch out! There's Ghosts and a person favorite of mine, The Ready Set starting October 1st. I got the chance to do a short but definetly sweet interview bright and early at 11 am during Warped Tour with Mikl!

What's your favorite part of Warped Tour so far?

Being on Warped Tour in general, it's amazing so we're excited you know and very blessed to be here.

Do you have any advice for people who may be on the Warped Tour in the future that you may not have known?

Just be strong, just get ready for some hard work. It's a lot of work.

How's the tour been going so far for you? Amazing. We're surprised every day with how many people will come out to watch us so we want to thank all of our fans that come out to support us.

Are there any bands that you're looking forward to seeing on the tour?

You know I love InnerPartySystem a lot. Chiodos, 30H!3. There are just so many amazing bands on this tour..Breathe Carolina, I like to watch them, they're one of my favorite bands. The Millionaires, always just good people.

Warped Tour Calgary

Hey,No longer virgin here.Warped tour virgin that is. After spending three days in Calgary and getting various injuries from warped boys and girls i decided to write a warped blog and maybe prove to some parents that Warped is really not that bad! I know my mother was going to have a heart attack when i left.

But back to the point
After waiting in traffic for what seems like forever(well one hour to be exact) Britt and i decided to walk. And whomever says that you have to get to warped early, well i don't think its true. We got there 30 mins after doors opened and we still managed to walk around and do nothing for another half an hour. But here is the catch Calgary warped tour was only 11'000 people.

After staring at the time table for ten minutes, we decided that it is actually time to listen to some music.Lucky for us We The Kings were playing first at the Maine stage and afterward All Time Low. It was the perfect setup. So like the good fans we are by the end of the WTK set we ended up right in the middle of all the fans only few meters away from the stage.By the time ATL got on,we were in the mosh pit central! Not even kidding,ATL fans are hardcore fans. Out of all the bands i saw that day ATL had the most mosh pitting and crowd surfing. So ladies PLEASE! I beg of you do not wear flip flops, and dresses. And if you never been to the front of the stage and don't know if you can handle it,please dont try it,I am sad to say but i saw at least 40 girls run to the back, crying 10 mins after the set started.I have to mention i felt a bit out of place when ATL walked out on the stage because i was wearing pretty much the exact same red and grey and white plaid shirt as him.And i was also in the perfect view of the stage.

ATL were simply amazing. They sounded great live, and had the crowd pumped in no time.Sadly they had to leave early and didn't have signing, but then again they did end up on the Conan O'Brien show.

While i was resting my poor little feet, after everyone stomping on them i got to hear the Less Than Jake set,and man those boys are funny. Ladies from Montana don't be offended by this i think everyone is beautiful but this was funny.

Quote-”Man women in Canada are HOT. Like we were just in Montana and OH MY GOD,The best looking chicks there were the boys of All Time Low”
Silverstein played a song in honor of ATL.Because they were that proud of them making it so far. Which was a really nice gesture on their part.If you haven't noticed all time low were the band of the day to talk about.

Now the big show 3OH!3.Ladies and gentlemen i can honestly say i think all 11'000 people came to see them. I mean i have never felt so violated by so many people at once!It was totally crazy, and i hope the guy behind me enjoyed our closeness more than i did.Needless to say the set rocked!everyone was pumped,A LOT of crowd surfing! But you know what, everyone looked after everyone, only a few people got dropped, but the majority of the kids got safely to the front stage.

This is where ill ask you to keep your mind open to new things,i know quite a few people don't like BrokenCyde. And for reason unknown only two members made it into Canada. My friend left me no choice but to go and watch the boys live, which i dreaded very much so,but i came to a realization that live they can do a lot more! And sound so much better. So i advise go and listen to them, you just might be pleasantly surprised.

The Maine were the next on my list of bands to see.And i think all the girls were swooned over John Ooh's cute little laugh.Cause everytime he laughed i seriously heard hearts break.(got to love underage girls). Even though Kennedy was absent for family reasons, the band sounded extraordinary, they put on quite a show, especially when yet again they played the cover of “Pour Some Sugar On Me”.

Next one the Menu were Breathe Carolina. Kyle was honestly the cutest thing i saw the whole day.He was very emotional while saying thank you to the fans for coming to see them, because this was their first time in Calgary. And they really made it a good one.I can say i will see them again if they come to Canada.

This blog is getting a bit long. But i did also get to see The white tie affair, and Forever The Sickets kids, and get a picture with Kyle Burns.
Needless to say,Warped tour is not the same it was 15 years ago, more and more techo punk pop bands come on tour, and there is a lot more variety. Some may not be happy with this because people find that now all bands sound the same. But i found out that every band i saw had their own little thing going on which nobody else had.
I got to meet so many amazing people,Like Rob Dyer,Kyle Burns,Ben Peterson, and Pat Brown. And truthfully Warped tour has the nicest people,it is worth the money, the traveling, the injuries, and the heat stroke which you may get.

Warped '09, My Honest Opinions.

Let me start off by saying MERCI to sisterface, aka breesays. And Luis Mendoza.

They were kind enough to put me and my friend Joey on the guest list for Warped, with VIP.

I couldn't be more thankful. This was my first time at Warped.

And my last.

Let me explain why.Read more...

I Hate Buzznet.

So, I dont go on buzznet that often.  I used to.  But lately I've noticed that everytime I do go on it, I find something to be annoyed at.  There's not much to do except get annoyed.

I remember last summer, I used to really like it. I had fun with my friends and it never used to be irritating like it is now.  Then in September all of my friends suddenly stopped using buzznet.

It seems that lately no one can have their own opinion without being told to think otherwise.  You just have to follow what other people say because that's apparently the right way to go.  It's as if everyone on buzznet (well not everyone, just the majority) wants to start a fights, so they jump at every chance they get to prove you wrong, even for the tiniest thing.

Some people need to grow up and get a life beyond the internet.  There's like these 20(ish) year olds on buzznet who like spending their lives picking on people younger than them because they've decided to express their opinion.

There's all these nasty comments on people or bands and then you think, if people hate them so much what's up with their obsession?  It's only making them popular, not necessarily for good or bad.  If you dont like something dont continue with it.  Just stop.  If you try and dont like a certain food, you dont continue to eat it. You just stop and leave it.

Come on people, leave the music bashing to professional critics.  At least they dont critisize the people who think otherwise.
