The Catcher in the Rye

You have probably memorized the goddamn plot already or at least how the goddamn story progresses.  You have probably made it as your goddamn book report in any of your goddamn English classes.  My point, this goddamn book is highly recognized and at the same time have been sorrounded by controversy.  With that being said I felt I had to make a goddamn review about it.

Okay. Okay. I'll stop the goddamn swearing.  I know it isnt cute.

J.D. Salinger.  His style of conversational first story narration is a type that makes the reader feel more attached to the protagonist.  I kinda like books that are written that way.  Though there arent any obvious lyrical elements I mean the grand use of those deep imagery provoking words, the huge use of symbolism brings it to a literary height.  J.D. Salinger might've been an angsty 17 year old himself.

Holden Caulfield.  I must say its a cool name.  He have quite a gift of perceiving accurately whats on peoples mind by their actions and words thats one thing that impresses me.  And of course his humor.  Throughout the novel he gives me an impression that he has some kind of a personality disorder but in the end I concluded he is somehow sane and he is just experiencing the normal confussion phase that I think most have to go through, or at least the philosophically gifted ones.  His literary preferances fascinates me.  The Great Gatsby. Old Gatsby. Old sport. That part killed me. Thomas Hardy and all its sort of amusing.  He promotes my theory that literary gifted people are prone to big time psychological problems.  Holden could make you sympathize with his immature angst, agree to his stupid ideas, and question his loathing of authorities.  The thing I hate about him the most is he hate movies.  It's clear why Holden Caulfield became like a prophet and an icon of youth rebellion.

The PlotThe novel didnt majorly capitalize on its plot instead on the mood the plot relays to the reader.   It is unique with the protagonist being also the antagonist.  Though in some ways it is quite plain but intricate in every way.

Overall.  When you read it as a teen you'll probably think its the book that best mirrored the tumoltous teen years that most had been through but if you read it and you're like already a parent you probably dont want your kids to read it.  And my own opinion, just dont read it in an absorbed state of mind or you'll end up counting all the phonies in your life or worst you'll end up shooting a famous rockstar or a head of state.

8/10.  For the Guns n Roses, Beastie Boys and Greenday songs

I had to read it at school, I didn't like it then because of Holdens swearing (I only liked his worries about the ducks in central park and his sister Phoebe, cool name for a girl). Later "Running on empty" with River Phoenix in it became my favourite movie, there is a scene at school and they are discussing the book there... Then I reread it, and now I think it is a really good book.
