CBS's new media plans

Larry Kramer, president of CBS Digital, shares his network's plans for the Web during a seminar at the American Press Institute in Reston, VA. "We're gong to bypass cable," Kramer said. "The Web is our cable." In fact, Kramer believes that Fox and NBC now regret their investment in cable news networks, because the future of breaking news is on the Web. CBS plans to add more video (such as full interviews that have been edited down for broadcast), Web only video, video that reacts to what bloggers are saying, a blog that reacts to what bloggers are saying, coverage of budget meetings and discussions of editorial decisions. "We're going to give people to the ability to get behind the news, to open up the process. We don’t have anything to hide.”

Kramer also warned local newspapers that local TV stations are awakening to the potential of the Web and the ability to go after content and advertising markets that newspapers have traditionally dominated, such as classifieds and classified verticals.
